Chaos Dwarfs Project #1 How to assemble resin models

in #models7 years ago

This is my next big project - Chaos Dwarfs or depending on the system you play they might be called Infernal Dwarfs (as in 9th age which is the game I play). The ruin bases I showed you how to sculpt and paint here and here were meant for the same thing. I did order some miniatures a week ago and they finally started arriving. Today was a day for assembly and this is what I will dedicate today's post to especially how to prepare resin models for painting since they are a bit trickier.

Today's models are from Forge World - Infernal Guard with fireglaives and hand weapons.

This is how they arrive in bits that you need to clean and assemble.

Tools you will need

  1. Hobby clippers
  2. Hobby knife
  3. Green Stuff/Liquid green stuff

The clippers and knife are for cleaning up the excess resin and mould lines. Green stuff on the other hand is there to fill the gaps and holes resin models might have when assembled. Resin models are a lot more detailed usually but the problem with them is that quite often you find small gaps or spots that need additional care.

Green stuff is a 2 part modelling putty that makes a chemical reaction when both parts are mixed or touched together. You mix it up and have a few hours to work with usually. After that the putty starts curing and gets hard until it gets as hard as plastic material.

These are the things we are cleaning. It is quite easy but it can be a bit time consuming.

Before you start gluing check if everything fits correctly and if you have the right parts where you are meant to have them. Some of them will have numbers or letters for simplicity if there is no instruction on how to assemble the models. These for example had letters from A to D for the arms, where arm A and B go together and arm C and D go on another mini.

Finally when all is assembled I put them in my spraying box, put my gloves on and get ready for spraying.

I think it's a cool thing to do with making these sculptures. Don't know why you think girls won't like it lol.

A bit too geeky for some haha
