Sustainability Curation

Hi everyone.

This is a joint Curation Page for the week of March 5th - March 11th**.

As I announced last week I will be handing over the reins of this project so that I might take a break and gear up for other life projects. This week is a collaboration post between myself and Carpedimus, an extraordinary writer and gentle soul. He is involved in hydroponics and urban farming, and curates his own web blog! I am thrilled to announce that starting next week, he will be in charge of writing the weekly curation!

This week, we will still be featuring some of the best finds for new writers posting on the topic of sustainability. The tags we look for deal with earth friendly living, permaculture, intentional communities, recycling, climate, homesteading, eco-building, ecology and whatever else fits this theme.

The Minnow Support Project has multiple curators that pick five posts from under-valued minnows each week to highlight through MSP3k. This way MSP and PAL can promote new writers and content creators on Steemit, and in effect reward them for doing a superior job.

In this particular curation, we try to concentrate specifically on newer authors that write sound articles on a variety of interwoven topics. In the past few months I believe that I have recognised a variety of new Steemians, and have helped them on their path. I daresay that Carpedimus will follow this trend and improve upon it!

The following posts are our Sustainability picks for this week:

from Insecticide Ban to Save the Bees - Is It Necessary? by powellx5

The first entry is from beekeeper and author powellx5 who writes about the debate of what is responsible for bee die off in Insecticide Ban to Save the Bees - Is It Necessary?. She starts out discussing insecticide restrictions, but also covers bee habits and other factors which should be guiding the lack of conclusion about this debate. If you like flowers or salad, there's also a great article on Nasturtium - Delicious Vegetable, Versatile Medicinal

from The easiest thing to grow in your garden by dirtyhippie

In The easiest thing to grow in your garden, tie dye artist dirtyhippie gives us the rundown on all things radish, from seed and sprout to full grown plant, time to maturity, planting strategies and heat tolerance. This guys also got some neat articles on jewelry and some beautiful garden photography, so check it out!

from When Things Became Scarce... by karinzdailygrind

karinzdailygrind
is up next with a thoughtul article entitled When Things Became Scarce..., which gently questions how we take for granted resources and conveniences that to others are a daily concern. The author details her experience with water shortages, then goes on to explain how she restructured her thinking and habits on useage and emergency preparation.

from Volunteering at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center in Occidental, California! by lovecycle48

I loved Volunteering at the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center in Occidental, California! by lovecycle48! Love Cycle is actually a nonprofit that creates and supports projects for the planet. This particular post detailed their visit to a research, education and community-organizing center in Sonoma County, CA. The nursery, kitchen and garden were highlighted, as well as the wonderful time had by all. I love how this highlights the difference that positive energy and commitment to a cause can make in a community.

from Bokashi - how to compost everything - AND get rid of stinky things!, by elfmyselfandi

Last up is Bokashi - how to compost everything - AND get rid of stinky things!, by elfmyselfandi. This article is a great in depth look at a composting method that allows users to include non traditional elements such as citrus, dairy, meat and bones. There is a how to discussion on composting, practical aspects and materials, plus two short videos outlining the benefits of Bokashi. Also noteworthy is the authors short piece on snow fences.

I was going to include Carpedimus as a new and upcoming writer in this week's curation by way of an introduction, however his latest post - see below - went crazy and earned a curie vote!!

Please give his article on rooftop gardens a look to understand how he helps his local community, or check out his steemit blog or his online web blog, NatureTech, here!

Hello to all the lovely readers of this great Sustainability Curation Digest.

Starting next week I'll be taking over it from @torico and hope for your continual support of this initiative to curate the best posts on steemit on the topic of sustainability, permaculture, aquaculture, urban farming, ecology, alternative energies, eco-building, homesteading...or anything else that comes to mind.

Any content that is telling a story, or sharing some amazing info on how we all can be more sustainable, more nature friendly, more ecologically smart ...

So nice meeting you all, I hope to get to know you better.

Thank you for featuring me @torico!
