The Daily Mindfulness Exercise

in #mindfullife5 years ago

Mindfulness the word very often that we hear. Some people think being mindful is a activity that needs an extra effort, like daily spending time in Meditation. But it is not like that. Being Mindful is just about spending some time of your day paying attention to yourself, your thoughts and your feelings and there can be many ways to being mindful like spending some quiet time may be after meals reflecting on your thoughts feelings and action, doing Meditation or focusing on breathing, doing Yoga, and there are many more such activities that can be done.

Be it whatever way you select but spending some time doing this Mindfulness exercise on a daily basis definitely has a lot of benefits on health. It helps improve brain activity, reduces stress levels which in turn impacts the immune system and also improves sleep. When you pay extra attention to what's happening within you and increase your level of awareness also you bring in other positive changes within you like becoming more compassionate and having a better level of understanding towards others. Many a times we drift off in the past or keep straying off in future. Being Mindfulness also helps to stay in present and live life in the present.

A simple Mindfulness exercise will just take 5 to 10 minutes of the Day. Put off all the gadgets away from you specially the mobile phone which should be best turned off. Sitting in a comfortable position in a place of your comfort and focus on the breadth. Focus on where the mind is wandering, you will see how the monkey mind jumps from one thought to another but gradually it will settle down. Focus on the physical body, if you pay deep attention sometimes you will hear some sounds coming and some sensations happening in your body. It is also advisable that you focus on one part of the body for sometime and then shift the focus to another part, stay there for sometime and then again shift to another part. This will increase your level of focus and concentration in general also.

Another Mindfulness exercise can be done before going to bed. Take some time to reflect on the actions of the day, what went well and what did not. See how the feeling emerges with each thought, how do you feel with each thought, pleasant, good, unpleasant, sad, happy. Gradually you will notice what is not required for you will start eliminating from your actions, your thoughts will be more stable and the feelings will be much more in control.

Our Mental health is the basis of our Physical health. Our body has an amazing healing capability by itself provided what environment we provide to heal. We do not need any expensive therapies to heal ourselves physically as well as emotionally. We can help our own selves, and doing a daily mindfulness exercise is one way of it which definitely impacts the life in a very positive manner and helps improve quality of life. If you are not in the habit of doing it, do think of starting from today itself and see the magical results just in few days time.

One of my favourite mindfulness exercises is sweeping - something taught by the monks here in Thailand. Always in silence, with the left arm respectfully tucked behind the back in an act of complete service. And just be AWARE as you sweep of the things you also have released - your dust and leaves - that you are gently releasing to the compost bin. It never fails to both relax and ground me.
