7 ukrainian bands/7 українських груп

Recently posted here about 7 Ukrainian writers worth reading. I decided, by analogy, to make a list of seven really worthy Ukrainian groups, on which one can draw a conclusion on the development and the current state of the Ukrainian musical scene (in its dark, underground dimension). So, I made a list of 7 groups that corresponded to 1) my tastes 2) in terms of their cultiness and influence on the stage (in my understanding!)))) 3) consulted with kum - where I am without him. Here's what happened:

Недавно розміщував тут матеріал про 7 українських письменників, яких варто почитати. Вирішив за аналогією зробити перелік з семи дійсно достойних українських груп, по яких можна робити висновок про розвиток і сучасний стан української музичної сцени (в її темному, андеграундному вимірі). Отже, зробив перелік з 7 груп, які відповідають 1) моїм смакам 2) з точки зору їхньої культовості і впливу на сцену (в мому розумінні!)))) 3) порадився ото з кумом – куди ж я без нього. Ось що в результаті вийшло:

The authoritative guys, the founders, actually saying that critics call "Kharkiv black metal school", are in many ways the parents of the genre, not only for Ukraine. I think that none of the foreign friends will argue about their colossal influence and the global heavy scene in general.
Began as a despotic "Suppuration" inspired by the creativity of the early "Emperor", "Cradle of filth" and "Dimmu Borgir". To date, they have released 6 full-length albums, as well as a bunch of demos, concert performances. Changing repeatedly the composition, they continue to be the leaders of the scene. The sound has become more balanced and wiser, but never abandoned its uncompromising roots and once chosen path, this group really deserves to be No. 1 in this list.

Авторитетні хлопці, засновники власне кажучи того, що критики називають «Харківська школа блек-металу», багато в чому батьки жанру, не тільки для України. Думаю, ніхто з іноземних друзів не буде сперечатися і про їхній колосальний вплив і на світову важку сцену взагалі.
Розпочиналися як дезова «Suppuration» натхненні творчістю ранніх “Emperor”, “Cradle of filth” і “Dimmu Borgir”. На цей момент випустили щось 6 повноцінних альбомів, а ще купу демок, концертних виступів. Помінявши неодноразово склад, вони далі залишаються лідерами сцени. Звучання стало більш виваженим і мудрішим, але ні разу не відмовилися від своїх безкомпромісних коренів і одного разу вибраного шляху, ця група реально заслуговує на те щоб бути №1 в цьому переліку.

Founded in 2003 as a studio project by Eisenslav (Dnipropetrovsk) and Viterzgir, the group at that time quickly broke into the underground reality of Ukraine. The name of the band means a bonfire on which the souls of the soldiers were raised in Viry. Recorded 4 or 5 albums. Then Eisenslav moved to Lviv, got a full-fledged composition and was wrapped up there ... The band is very active in giving concerts, recording new albums.
It seems that in 2010 (approximately) from the group went one of the founders of Viterzgir (now in the musical plane, rolled in a pink grubby). The group itself, oddly enough, has not lost much of it. Sounds usually became more straightforward (Viterzgir was just responsible for technical swirls, as well as for whistling and brooding), music is more aggressive and tushny. However, the quality of the record has risen, which can not but rejoice. Now the band is functioning, engaged in concert activities, rides at the festival, writes albums, lives a rich life in a word.

Заснована в 2003 році, як студійний проект Eisenslav (Дніпропетровськ) і Viterzgir, група на той час досить стрімко увірвалася в андеграундну дійсність України. Назва гурту означає багаття, на якому душі воїнів підносилися у Вирій. Записали щось 4 чи 5 альбомів. Тоді Eisenslav переїхав до Львова, набрали повноцінний склад і тут заверті… Група досить активно дає концерти, записує нові альбоми.
Здається, в 2010 (приблизно) з гурту пішов один із засновників Вітерзгір (зараз в музичному плані скотився в понуре гівно). Сама група, як не дивно, від цього не дуже втратила. Звучання звичайно стало прямолінійніше (Вітерзгір якраз відповідав за технічні навороти, а також за свистілки і перділки), музика більш агресивна і трушна. Разом з тим якість записів піднялася, що не може не радувати. Зараз група функціонує, займається концертною діяльністю, їздить на фестивалі , пише альбоми, словом живе насиченим життям.

1. Dub Buk

Cult, too, the Kharkiv group. Some attribute black metal to the "second wave". The name comes from the small Slavic god Dubbuka, also (then Oak Buk began to write separately) a reference to the trees, characteristic of paganism. Creativity is somewhere at the junction of the old black metal and the cheerful trehnyachka that can not deliver, especially in the part where the Cossack marches and the anarchic freak of the Slobozhanskaya steppe are heard.
The band released four full-length albums and several demos, and then ceased to exist in the form of Dub Buk itself, and now it has formed a group of Burshtyn, which is also worthy of attention.

Культова, теж Харківська група. Дехто відносить до «другої хвилі» блек-металу. Назва походить від дрібного слов’янського божка Дуббука, також (потім Дуб Бук почав писатися окремо) посилання власне до дерев, що характерно для язичництва. Творчість десь на стику старого блек-металу і бадьорого трешнячка, що не може не доставляти, особливо в частині де чуються козацькі марші і анархічна вольниця слобожанського степу.
Банда випустила чотири повноформатних альбоми і декілька демок, після чого припинила своє існування у вигляді власне Dub Buk, зараз на її основі сформована група Burshtyn, яка також варта уваги.

Founded by Khorus-ohm - a former bassist Astrofaes. Quickly merging a gang of people who already had such a normal musical experience in other groups, the project immediately became a cult. Why the group, as I can be attributed to the "second wave of black metal", it is for the quality of sound. As I said, the colleague picked up a professional and experienced, so that poor at that time Ukraine could not be ashamed. They are obviously not professional in the Western genre of monsters. If you believe pedvietiki, at this time recorded 5 full-length albums, the group actively concerts, often rides tours in Europe. In addition to traditional paganism, the group has recently drawn to the theme of the Cossacks and the rebels of the Cold Yar.

Заснована група Khorus-ом – колишнім басистом Astrofaes. Швиденько сколотивши банду з людей, які вже мали нормальний такий музичний досвід в інших групах, проект відразу став культовим. Чому групу, як на мене можна віднести вже до «другої хвилі блек металу», так це за якість звучання. Як я казав, колективчик підібрався професійний і досвідчений, так що бідній на той час Україні можна було не соромитися. Професіоналізмом вони явно не поступаються західним монстрам жанру. Якщо вірити педівікії, на цей час записано 5 повноформатних альбомів, група активно концертує, часто їздить з турами по Європі. Окрім традиційного паганізму, група останнім часом звертається до теми козаччини та повстанців Холодного Яру.

I did not want to include in this list for a long time, but I still included it. In the musical plane, the gang is truly unique and then my list would not be complete, and he would lack some important facets to comprehend the entire musical range of the Ukrainian black scene.
So, the group of Kharkiv (amazing, right?), Translated from Sanskrit means "forest". The project is characterized by the fact that they do not give live performances, they do not give interviews, publish albums purely, they say pure creativity, do their own conclusions.
The music is mainly based on the words of Ukrainian poets - Taras Shevchenko, Lina Kostenko, Vasyl Stus. It is also worth mentioning the album "A Handful of Stars" on the words of the poets of the "Prague School" (who is interested in googling), the album "Swan Way", on the basis of the poem "Haydamaky" and "Songs of Sorrow and Sorrow" - purely acoustic. The early albums have a very strong Burzum effect. The music of criticism is defined as atmospheric black-metal. Musicians give a definition - Slavonic heathen metal. Noticed in a number of side projects, such as Blood of Kingu, Rattenfänger, Old Silver Key

Довго не хотів включати в цей перелік, але таки включив. В музичному плані банда дійсно унікальна і тоді мій перелік був би не повним, і йому б не вистачало деяких важливих граней, для осягнення всього музичного діапазону української блекової сцени.
Отже, гурт Харківський (дивно, правда?), в перекладі з санскриту означає «ліс». Проект характерний якраз тим, що живих виступів не дають, інтерв’ю не дають, чисто випускають альбоми, мовляв чиста творчість, висновки робіть самі.
Музика в основному на слова українських поетів – Тарас Шевченко, Ліна Костенко, Василь Стус. Також варто згадати альбом «Пригорща зірок» на слова поетів «Празької школи» (кому цікаво - гугліть), альбом «Лебединий шлях», на основі поеми «Гайдамаки» та «Пісні смутку і скорботи» - чисто акустичний. На ранніх альбомах дуже сильний вплив Burzum. Музику критики визначають як atmospheric black-metal. Музиканти дають визначення – Slavonic heathen metal. Помічені в ряді сайд-проектів, як то Blood of Kingu, Rattenfänger, Old Silver Key

Gothic dark Lviv. Disassembled Gothic temple. A moonlight shines through the hole in the ceiling and illuminates the body on which this pastor is playing evil. So, in my childhood, St. Julius and his Cappitolium. Started as a fashionable one by one time, one man band Yulian Mytsyk (see Kroda - "Viterzgir") then got a full-fledged composition and something a little out. Leaving a few full albums, the project closed. Now, of course, those bodies are listening as a motive with a super mario on an eight-sided console. But then it really was a very powerful example of the symphony-blubber. And in some places he seemed to me better than foreign counterparts like Dimmu Borgir or Emperor. Therefore, I think that this project has left its mark, and it deserves that it still mentioned here.

Готичний темний Львів. Розвалений готичний храм. Через діру в стелю світить місячне світло і осяває орган, на якому грає цей пастор зла. Таким мені в дитинстві уявлявся St. Julius і його Cappitolium. Починався як модний на той час one man band Юліан Мицик (див. Крода – «Вітерзгір») тоді набрав повноцінний склад і щось трохи виступав. Залишивши декільки повноцінних альбомів, проект закрився. Зараз звичайно ті органи слухаються як мотив з супер маріо на восьмибітній приставці. Але тоді це дійсно був дуже потужний зразок симфо-блеку. І в деяких місцях він мені здавався ліпшим за іноземні аналоги, як то Dimmu Borgir чи Emperor. Тому вважаю що цей проект залишив свій слід, і заслуговує щоб його все таки тут згадали.

In my most aggressive gang with the straightforward filing. The project is already closed, but his business is alive, so closing my mark. Pretty rough, aggressive black-deed sound. English-language lyrics inspired by traditionalism, militarism and other isms (and of course, poetry and mythology). The leader of the band is the novel Saenko (now Drudkh). So understanding poetics is clearly not lacking here. Musicians are now seen in other pre-orders, including the Blood of Kingu and Drudkh mentioned here

По моєму найагресивніша банда з найпрямолінійнішою подачею. Проект вже закритий, але справа його жива, тому закриває мій прелік. Досить сире агресивне блек-дезове звучання. Англомовна лірика, надихнута традиціоналізмом, мілітаризмом та іншими ізмами (ну і звичайно поезією та міфологією). Лідер гурту роман Саєнко (зараз Drudkh). Так що розуміння поетики тут явно не бракує. Зараз музиканти помічені в інших преоктах, зокрема згадуваних тут Blood of Kingu та Drudkh
