Stop Using Facebook!

Hasn't Failbook stolen enough of your life?

It's not a healthy platform. It's not even a good site. Time and again they have proven they aren't worth using, and yet people still keep going back to them because so many people they know are on there. They don't respect your privacy. They don't respect you. You are just a number to them, a dollar sign in a spreadsheet.

It's time to leave Facebook. For good. You don't have to delete it. Just realize there's no reason to really go back there. Unless you like people spreading bullshit propaganda.

It was always kinda weird how your relatives tried to make you accept their "friends" request anyway. I'm sorry grandma, you're not my friend! I don't want to see your comments on the shit I post, and I don't care about whatever old-fashioned weird ass political beliefs you have. Relatives are not friends. They're family. They're those annoying people your parents make you be nice to around the holidays. I don't want them seeing the same things I post to actual friends.

At least with Steemit, you know everything is out there in the open. There's no delusion that you're posting to friends. You're posting to the blockchain. You're producing content. Sure, sometimes it's a stupid meme and a rant, but it's content none-the-less! It's a public blog. Gonzo journalism. Opinions and facts fucking on the street corner of the internet. It's cool. Facebook is not.

Facebook is over. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Game over. Finito.

Oh yes, big 'ol fucking upvote for this post :)

I quite FB in 2011 after arriving back in the States from a couple years in Uni in Australia. It was a great tool in the early days for connecting with classmates and friends, lining up get-together blah, blah, blah. And then of course, it grew too big, too centralized, went public and became a worthless piece of crap.

When I quite, my friends assured me that I would become a non-entity, disappear socially. Well, that didn't happen. Instead of wasting time on superficial bullshit, I actually spent time sharing ideas and content over on G+. G+ was great for a while. It wasn't oriented around friends, just ideas, memes, and sometimes content. Had some good discussions there and enjoyed it for a while, but....fucking Google. I'm pretty much done forking over all of my digital details to evil Google (this is a slower process of disconnection though since Google is much more insidious and has tentacles into many aspects of lots of people)

So welcome to the DPL! Come on Steemit, don't let me down!! Been great here so far, creating content (writing short fiction here), connecting with thinking folks rather than sharing the superficial bullshit of the day.

I agree with your points, for the most part. It will be hard to get most people to stop using Facebook at this point. The only strength they have is their enormous user base. But that is, unfortunately, a big strength. For most people. It's almost a guarantee to find whoever you are searching to connect with.

My use of Facebook has gone down over the last couple of years, and I think I eventually will stop using it completely. That's the goal at least. For the most part these days my use of Facebook is their messenger, to keep in touch with parents and close friends that do not live close-by. It's the easiest way, and I'm lazy. I do not want to spend lots of energy learning my family and friends how to use a new platform, as my previous efforts have failed and they've all returned to what they know.

Opinions and facts fucking on the street corner of the internet.......that has to be the funniest single sentence I have ever read on steemit.

I hate Facebook for the same reasons but also the fact that people can stir up all sorts of bullshit and then delete or edit it.

Ooh! Sounds like someone's been fucked over by an edit troll!

Haha, I have been and done it. The power to stir the pot then delete is a well crafted nightmare. Many even use it then claim "they were censored" that's why I love blockchain all they can do is take your money and there is a record of edit or flag

Still hard to drop it fully but I have definitely made progress switching to Steemit to explore this universe and not just scroll down to the hell.. :D
Thanks for sharing.

Fuck Facebook!

I'm still pretty new to steemit. Facebook has annoyed me for quite some time. But I don't really see steemit as a replacement for FB at this point.

Mostly what I see on FB is people sharing other people's content. I mean, sure, you've got the baby pics and the food pics. But mostly people are sharing content that other people made - whether it be articles, memes, or videos. And I think there can be value in that - like me, I'll post a link to a Sam Harris podcast or an interesting article, because I think it's valuable, and I'd love it if more people listened/read and maybe learned something.

For the most part, though, I don't think steemit is for that. Steemit is a blog of your own content. Now sure, people post links here, and you can certainly share original content on FB. But for the most part FB is about projecting a lifestyle, whereas steemit is more about an exchange of content and ideas.

Maybe? I don't know. :)

Yeah, you're right for the most part. I don't think of steemit as a replacement for facebook really, but people should still quit Facebook. :P
