Coffee Time Meditation #13 -- Sept. 13th
Thoughts on Today’s Quote
If I was to view this quote in a very literal sense, I could argue that there has been lots stumbled upon while sitting down in this the digital age. Many discoveries and developments have come from people sitting at computers.
Charles Kettering didn’t write in the digital age. He wrote in the day when discovery and developments came through hands on, get out and find the resources, sort of work.
If you spent your time sitting and just thinking about what you wanted to discover, that is all you have for your time is sitting and thinking.
That is still true today. Even if what you are exploring and working on is digital, you still need to get busy and seek the resources either physically or virtually to get to your goal.
I decided to write this series of mediations. I could have sat and meditated on the project until the cows came home, it wouldn’t have happened.
Instead, I took my thoughts and ideas and put them to work. I find the quotes, create the graphics and research the author. Then I meditate on how the quote speaks to me. I put my thoughts together and I write them into the post.
Somedays, my thoughts aren’t able to form what I consider thoughts to share. I just keep going, I keep letting it travel in my mind until they stumble upon how I want to share them.
So, yes, even virtually you have to keep going, you can’t just sit and wait for something to come to you.
Who is Charles F Kettering?
Born in Loudonville, Ohio on August 29, 1876, Charles Kettering was an inventor, engineer and businessman.
Hired directly from school by the National Cash Register company in 1904 he designed an easy credit approval system which was the forerunner of today’s credit cards. He also developed the first electric cash register.
He left NCR in 1909 after helping to co-found Delco, an innovative firm that developed electrical systems for cars including the first self-starter. The self-starter replaced the crank system which had led to the injury of many drivers due to its tendency to blow back on ignition. Delco was responsible for the first reliable ignition system for cars.
During WW1 Kettering developed the world’s first unmanned aerial torpedo system that became known as the “Kettering bug”. This experimental prototype was the forerunner of today’s cruise missiles.
Delco was bought out by United Motors in 1920 which later became General Motors. Kettering worked as the head of research for GM from 1920 to 1947. During his time at GM Kettering was involved in developing leaded gas, freon refrigerant for air conditioners and the lacquer & enamels to allow mass produced cars to be painted in different colours.
Several public buildings across the US were named in his honour after his death in November 1958 at the age of 82.
*I will try to find information on the author of the quotes I share. I wont always be successful.
Don’t know about you, but I find it interesting to know who the person was that anyone took the time to record or quote that person.*
About Coffee Time Meditation
I love being inspired by other people’s quotes. I thought I’d start sharing some quotes that inspire me along with my own thoughts the quote evokes within me. So, think of someone, like me, sitting quietly with the first fresh coffee of the day and mediating about the words of the quote. That would be me, or it could be you.
I invite you to share your own thoughts on the quote in the comments.
If you like this series, please upvote it and share with others.
Have a great day

Quotes can be wonderful, thought-provoking journal-prompts. They can help you break through writer's block. They can bring out your own thoughts you might not have stumbled on otherwise. And they can be marvelous pieces of synchronicity when you're floundering around, trying to puzzle out some answers to life's problems.
In fact, you're creative work here has given me a great idea for another oracle on my site. (So thank you for that.) Sometimes writing on quotes will produce, from your very own hands, insights into yourself that take your breath away. More than once, as the words flowed from the voice in my head onto paper -- and more recently, onto the computer screen -- I've found things that made me pause in wonder. I've heard a voice that is wiser than I am, telling me things I need to know.
I think all writers and journal-keepers eventually have that experience. It's one of the rewards for the lonely hours of meandering sentences and free-flow composition. Maybe it's what writers once-upon-a-time used to call "The Muse." Suddenly, we tap into a dimension that is awesome in its power and wisdom. Somehow we know this magic moment was a collaboration with something beyond ... "us."
I see hints of that in what you're creating here. Maybe you already recognize what I'm talking about. And I do like the way you tie material about the original author -- the quote's source -- into an educational episode that adds something more to you own thoughts.
The foundation for this series is a very interesting idea. I predict you'll learn a lot from it -- and your readers, too. Like "Morning Pages" it could become a habit that changes you ... changes your life ... into something better. It will be real interesting to see where it leads.

Very interesting. Looks like we're still reeling from and trying to fix the damage caused by Charles F. Kettering. Perhaps he should have sat more. Keep 'um coming.
yes, he wasn't an environmentally friendly guy with how he applied his talents.
But, he did keep going no matter how often he stumbled. I'm finding it interesting learning about the authors of the quotes. Puts a different perspective on them for me.
I thought exactly the same thing as you when I first read that quote. That's its different in the digital age, but I agree it is still highly relevant. You don't get to your destination standing still in the middle of your living room.
Well not unless you have a standing desk and you're writing the next great novel :)
It's really amazing how the more life changes.. the more the old is still relevant.
I enjoy quotes so am glad you are into that.. I post quotes sometimes. :)
There can be a lot of learning in a quote .. or a lot to make a person think .
I've heard of Kettering ignition, which kept our automobiles going until electronic ignition took over. Didn't know much about the man behind it. The quote is very inspirational.
I'm learning a lot by looking up the bios of the authors. I'm glad I decided to do so and I hope my readers get a benefit by knowing a bit about the person behind the quote.
