I got this one and the next episode to review before I finally catch up with the upcoming one this Friday and I'm glad I got so much time to blog!!! I use the word "seasons" quite often and if you are word sensitive this is a warning.

For the people who haven't seen it yet just scroll to the bottom to read my "initial thoughts", "quick summary", "conclusion" and after if you don't want any spoilers.

Initial thoughts (No Spoilers):
Episode 1 and Episode 2 was one hell of a premiere with big endings that tie together with each other. Also A LOT of the settings in Season 5 definitely takes place in outer space something that has never been done before in the previous seasons. The Kree, blue aliens (not Avatars) is heavily involved now in this story since we saw bits of them in the previous seasons so FINALLY we get to see more of them and the anticipation is big!!!! So far MANY NEW IDEAS are being explored with the upcoming episodes and I'm stoked!!! Now lets dive in!!!

Analyzing this episode (Spoilers):
You can see that this episode is broken into three different parts; Simmons, Daisy, and the rest of the agents. The whole theme is BETRAYAL and it is the undertone in this episode.

  • Simmons is the MOST interesting because she helped an Inhuman girl named Abby to control her powers for a ceremony. Abby has an interesting superpower where she can phase through objects by going through them or being extremely solid. I felt like the characters who call this a "ceremony" should call this a gladiator match cause it sure as hell doesn't even look like or sound like a ceremony. We see more of Kasius talking to Lady Basha who could also be another important supporting character but all we know is that she brought in a fighter to fight Abby. The HIGHLIGHT of this part is the gladiator match where we get to see Abby learn to control those trippy superpowers of her to pierce the guys chest in a ghost like way. I thought that was COOL and made the episode cool. The BETRAYAL was where Simmons felt lied to as she saw Abby being sold as a slave to Lady Basha.
  • For the rest of the agents(May, Cole, Mack, Yo-yo) the mystery continues in this episode as we find that Virgil left clues for the agents. Yo-Yo did have her moment when she used her superpower to get that scroll for Daisy and it looked pretty cool. The fat bald guy I forgot his name used one of his assistants named Grill to follow the remaining agents as a spy and he made himself look like he was on their side but he BETRAYED them. Then when it looked like the agents were going to be screwed when Grill snitches on them Yo-Yo used her superpower to slip a gun in his pocket to make it look like he BETRAYED his boss. I thought that was pretty witty and like a mini plot twist.
  • With Daisy we already know that she and Deke(Star-Lord look alike) have conflicting ideologies. We know that she is trying to save Simmons and we see her kick butt with two Kree guards. The HIGHLIGHT was the fight scene of her when we see her takedown the two Kree guards with her acrobatic skills. The BETRAYAL is pretty obvious when we see her being snitched by Deke when she got herself captured.

Overall "A Life Spent" is not perfect but it is more than just okay. "A Life Spent" has three parts coming together with a theme of betrayal behind each one. I guess the weakness of this episode is that we see too much of the space station and people working. Also the plot progression does not go that far and we still don't know the exact clues of what Vergil left for the agents as they still haven't uncovered the secrets behind the asteroid/number 616.

Lingering Questions (Spoilers):
The same as the previous episode review.

  • Will Abby the inhuman play a bigger role to the Season 5 story?
  • Will we get to see more of Lady Basha?
  • Will we get closer to know what has happened in between the scenes where the agents got arrested and them being sent to a completely different setting by that monolith?
  • Where is Fitz? It has been 3 episodes without him.

Conclusion (No Spoilers):
This was a GOOD(a thumbs up) episode not amazing(two thumbs up) as the first two but we got another new interesting character, a few good fight scenes, and the ending that leaves me wanting to know what happens next. The ending does not make me HIGLY curious as the first two but it did convince me more than enough to watch the next episode to want to know what happens next. This type of episode is more of a buildup than a plot progression type which still leaves people hanging in a mediocre way. Also the part that is dragged on a bit was the people working in the space station and we already know that is the way of life in the previous two episodes. This episode has a theme which nobody or maybe plenty of people have noticed and that is BETRAYAL which is executed in a solid if not spectacular way because it wasn't that unpredictable. I have seen too many live superhero/tv shows to know what is good and what is amazing.
