What is your take on same sex marriage?
On an individual level I want all LGBT adults to find a lifetime partner of their choosing and get married, but on a collective level, I prefer for the media to promote traditional marriages between one man and one woman.
It's kind of like a family doctor who has a son and wants to surround his son with higher education and the field of medicine.
I have gained so much from being in a traditional marriage with @emaferice and I'd like to raise our son in a society that is abundant in traditional & successful marriages between one man and one woman.

- Does the media influence the decisions, values, desires and choices of children as they grow and reach adulthood?
I think sexuality just is what it is and think all walks of life should be represented as they are without necessarily promoting one over the other. My problem is that LGBT subjects are too often used for shock value rather than "oh look it's human people living life".
I agree with the disadvantage of sensationalism but I don't think all walks of life should be valued equally.
Take mental illness as an example.
I personally have schizoaffective disorder, and although I don't think being LGBT is a mental illness in itself (at least not always) I do believe there are clear disadvantages to being LGBT much like there are disadvantages with having schizoaffective disorder.
Some of the disadvantages of being LGBT are unnatural, and caused by bigotry, hate and discrimination, but I also think there are some natural disadvantages that should be respected, much like the challenges that people with schizoaffective disorder face.
While I don't think I should be expected to not have schizoaffective disorder, and I don't think an adult member of the LGBT community should be expected to be a straight male or female, I don't think we should be valuing becoming a member of the LGBT community as highly as we value being a heterosexual.
Statistically I think it is better to be heterosexual but individually things can vary from person to person. I have adult friends who are LGBT and I would never want them to change. I also have a young pre-teen relative that has signs of being LGBT and for him, I think it is best for nature to run it's course and for him to become whatever he becomes in that regard.
But most children are looking for suggestions about what they should value, desire, think and do, and I think we should lean them towards heterosexualism if there isn't a clear reason not to.

Sexuality is like handedness. We don't know exactly why people favor one hand over the other, but we acknowledge and respect that preference without trying to change it.
