Delegation Contest

Two weeks ago, I organized a contest in which newcomers could win a delegation of 50SP, so they would be out of the bandwidth problem zone.

The rules were simple: all contestants had to join @abh12345’s Engagement League and get as high up in the list as possible.

The Engagement League is all about community spirit. The more you write (long) comments and replies, and the more you support others with your upvote, the higher you will rank.

The Winners

Last week, I announced the winners. They would be delegated 50SP for 8 weeks.

There were 10 contestants, and these were the people with the highest rank:

21st spot: @xomegax
29th spot: @seenitallfilms
30th spot: @crypto-econom1st
40th spot: @mirrors

I decided to reward all 4 of them with a delegation.

The Follow-Up

When I started the contest, the rules were clear:

Notice that last line: stay engaged.
It was not enough to make it to the list once. Potential winners would have to continue engaging and contributing to the platform.

When I look at this week’s list, only 2 of my delegatees are in it.

@mirrors: 8th place

@crypto-econom1st: 12th place

Congratulations @mirrors and @crypto-econom1st. You both did great! You both made a big effort engaging with the community. Keep up the good work.

As for my other 2 delegatees, I had to ask @abh12345 to look them up in the list.

@xomegax: 64th place, with only 64 comments and 16 comments on other people's posts

@seenitallfilms: 168th place, with only 19 comments and 1 comment on other people's posts

As you can see on the screenshots, the level of engagement was very low.

@xomegax and @seenitallfilms, you’ll need to step up your game if you want to keep your delegation.

You can do better than this, you proved it during the first week.

Show me what you got. You have another week to convince me that I made the right choice by delegating to you. Put your best foot forward, and start to engage like there is no tomorrow.

There will be another evaluation next Monday. Then I will decide whether I’ll keep the delegations in place or not.

Nice initiative @simplymike. Upvoted and resteemed and will be included in the next MAP Resteems post.

Indeed, many of the people listed may be interested in joining MAP for further support and advice.

Thanks. I should write another post about MAP soon. You guys have been so helpful...

Just when you think there's one awesome idea, another piggybacks onto it.

Well, wait, I guess there's at least two cool ideas associated with @abh12345's curation and engagement leagues, isn't there, since @fullcoverbetting is covering the No. 25 spot, right?

I think it's all great and I think it's all part of the equation that's going to change the course of Steemit for the better. More of us need to being doing that somehow. I need to get more comfortable with all this as well as my time spent before I do, but you are definitely setting the right example.

Saw that you've delegated some SP to the new transparency bot, too. That's quite the undertaking there, too.

Way to go. :)

Thanks. It seemed like a logical thing to do ;0)

The Delegation has been as useful as it gets, @simplymike. And whats more, i won another 50SP from @abh12345 for making it to 8th place.

So it is a double win for me, i'd say, following from your requirement that we enter @abh12345's challenge.

I hope @xomegax and @seenitallfilms, step up, not least because there is more SP to win from @abh12345's engagement league.

Otherwise thanks. I hope you are well.

I’m ok, thanks.
Congratulations on getting the delegation from Asher. You definitely deserved it.

Asher’s delegations are indeed another incentive to do good in the league.

Thanks. I should only get better, i hope, plan to.

Wow. A tad too late.
Lovely to see you are definitely taking initiative to uplift others.
That is very kind and heart warming.
You are the real MVP honey!
Keep it up!

Thanks, but what does MVP stand for - lol?

Haha.

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER :)

Haha, another thing learned today. Thanks for the compliment :0)

Thank you @simplymike for helping some people out with your steem power.

Advice to those that got

Opportunities like this may not always come, make good use of steem power delegated to you and some of the best ways to make good use of it is by
1 Interact with with others on the platform and give your upvote to posts and comments when necessary and let your comments be useful and interesting
2 Put up good content
When you give people good comment on their blogs, they will want to visit your blog to know who you really are and what your blog is made of.
3 Ensure to always reply people that comment on your blog
4 Ensure that your voting power is always between 85% to 100% and you can see your percentage by visiting

Thanks for the little extra advice, @inspiredgideon1

It is good to follow them up! Why should they keep the delegation if there are not using it in full force. It should be considered a big vote of confidence! So, if they are just sitting by the sideline, it is better to help someone who really does use the power given to them!

That was exactly what I was thinking, @fullcoverbetter. I’d rather delegate my sp to people who are serious about SteemIt than to people that have no plans with it. I gave them another week, because I’m the first to aknowledge life can get in the way sometimed. Last week, I missed 3 days myself. :0!

It is hard to judge people on one single week! Everybody deserves some time off, also not everybody has a much time as we like to spend on the Steem platform.
We may also not forget, that the most people we know online but we have no idea what is going on with them offline :(
fullcoverbetter :) should be fullcoverbetting.

You are right. But the rules stated ‘stay engaged’. I didn’t want to stick a minimum number on it, but 19 comments is not my idea of staying engaged. Especially when you manage to put out 4 posts...

You mean you also want to win this delegation yourself?

That wasn’t the intention of this reply but now that you have mentioned it 🤔
I just think that it is rigth to control if the people are using the delegation. If someone isn’t active than she bette can delegate it to others!

I think it might be good to give it a little of time. And/or wait if they will write any reaction...

I’m not going to kick anyone out soon - not without an explanation. I just think it’s good to follow up...

Great work @simplymike :) IDK how you keep up with everyone - you're amazing!

Lol. Thanks @amariespeaks, but this was an easy one. I only had to use the stats @abh12345 provides in his weekly leagues post. :0)

I know, but even taking the time out to do that is a feat in its own LOL I can barely get through my replies/comments and all the challenge invites and tags - I want to mentor a newbie but I have to get real life squared away so I have some more extra time :)

Lol. As long as I’m still recovering from surgery, I simply have no ‘real life’ during the day. More than enough time to spend on SteemIt ;0)

😉😄 I'm glad you're getting more steemit time and I hope your recovery is painless but slow so you get plenty of relaxation time

I was a bit scared to read this post. I thought you took a full day for an in depth analysis. And then I would be really the pine (zeg maar de klus). You would reveal everything. You know the Steemit dark web. This no one would like to know about.

Just kidding 😀

Let's see if I will be in the list next week. I plan to spend not to much time on Steemit this week. But for some reason I don't really succeed in getting offline.

I know how that feels. Last Wednesday, I had had it with SteemIt. i decided to take the day off and think about whether I wanted to continue this or not. I think I grabbed my phone like 20 times before I realized I was taking the day off. Lol! Boy, that was a boring day :0)

It’s like I said before: with your history of being curation king for as long as forever, I know that you take SteemIt seriously. If you don’t show up in the list next week, there is no problem. I know you’ll be back eventually ;0D

That's right. There is still an awesome lot to learn. Both about Steemit but also in general about crypto, blockchain and other new inventions.

Why would you consider to stop Steemit?
It looks like you invested quite an amount. And you are normally very active.

I wonder if it would help if my friends and family would join Steemit? Or that I prefer it like this, a bit more anonymous?

Lol, that’s up to you. You could create your very own circle-jerk and grow faster, hahaha
I’m happy I have no one I know on SteemIt (at least, I think so... who knows who is hiding behind those silly usernames), it allows me to speak more freely.
But I see a lot of couples who both have an account, or even parents and children...

Why would I leave SteemIt? Let’s be honest, I love this platform, but it has no future. Every day I come across all what’s wrong with it, and then I get demotivated. The centralized power, the circle-jerking, the upvote bots, the ‘just because’ flagging,... I can go on for a while. But the thing that bothers me most is the fact that STINC just doesn’t give a f**k. They created the platform, then turned away and left it to die... It’s just a matter of time..
But then I think about all the good things, all the fun conversations I have here, all the friends I made here, and how much I already learned about myself, and then I return. Lol
The investment in Steem is just a small part of my portfolio, and so far not te best decision I ever made - lol. But the same goes for everything I bought after BTC, ETH and DASH ;0)

I honestly believe that Steemit has no future. Basically for the same reasons as you. But also from an economic perspective I think it lacks a real business model. I think you should create a social media platform with advertisements. And use part of the advertising income to pay all users. Other part of the advertising income you can use to pay salaries and for further development.

I agree.
Once I saw this proposal from a guy who had plans to build some kind of advertising platform to integrate into SteemIt. I think it even exists already. Should look up that post again.

But internal advertising will widen the gap between the rich and the ‘poor’.
In that same thread i saw a whale asking what kind of advertising he could get for $500. (Or was it $5000? i dln’t remember)...

If I see those kind of things I always feel the urge to try to benefit the system in ways I'm not supposed to. But in the end I end up with behaving good for most of the time. And sometimes I try some tricks. Thinking that if I won't do it, then someone else will. And some whales are really much worse.

But trying to grab money on Steemit is kind of useless for me. Since I have quite a good job. So it makes more sense to work like 1 hour extra in my normal job then trying anything at Steemit.

Don't you sometimes feel the urge to do something like selling your upvote?

To be really honest, I am selling my upvotes through Minnowbooster (shame shame), but only if my VP is above 88%, which is like... never - lol

But I agree on the tricks. I play my number of tricks. If I don’t, somebody else will :0)

The ads all tell you you will make money blogging, but the truth is that you’ll never get rich on SteemIt. Unless the price of Steem goes up to $30 or so, which is very unlikely.
I gave up the idea of making money long time ago. It’s the community that is important now. I’m improving my writing skills, my social skills and a lot more. That’s the real value of the platform...

The first part made me really happy.
The second part made me really sad.
