Manga OneShots - Some Interesting Oneshots I Have Read #4

in #manga7 years ago (edited)

If you're looking for a short 10-minutes of enjoyment, manga Oneshots are one of the best bets out there. I'm reading more and more of them to learn by examples how to end a story in few pages. And that's why I'm making lists of Oneshots I enjoyed.

This posts where I talk about some interesting manga One-Shots I found. Because these manga are short, they have different charm than manga series or the short fiction.

A Manga One-Shot is Basically a short story (usually less than 60 pages) that is self-contained. When you read a one-shot you don't need any other related work to understand it and it should feel completed by it's own.

So In this list, All these one-shots are interesting ones I came across.

I'll also include two and three-shots as I consider them One-shots too.

The Laughing Target

by: Rumiko Takahashi

When they were young, Yuzuru's parents arranged a merriage with his cousin Azusa... After her mother's death, with no place to go to, she returned to him. But he already has another girl he likes... the story of jealousy and dark powers unfolds.

It's is one of the authors earlier dark works, and it's good as modern super-natural story... I mentioned other Rumiko Takahashi work: "Fire Tripper" in post #2. both of them are bundled in Rumic World Collection and available in English in print.

Hero Killer

This is one interesting science fiction manga. In the age where the government hire super-powered humans to deal with criminals... The main character is someone who tracks those "heros" and kill them.

The story is full of action and his motive is interesting... The villain is also awesome. While the One-shot doesn't offer anything new, it's one of the good shonen One-shots out there.

Hachigatsu no Shikisa

Four-season Color of August

A slice of life story about Hazuki, a girl who meets up with a boy. He's nicknamed Natsu (Summer) as he only comes to the town in summer. The story is very heartwarming, and Natsu's illness (don't want to spoil it) is unique for a manga in this genre. Definitely worth a read.

This Oneshot is bundled with Akagami no Shirayuki-hime (Red Haired Snow White) first volume.

Full Scratch Eiji

About a boy who runs away from his Otaku past after a failed love confession, He became cooler and famous... One day he met a girl who was a fan of his old self, the legendary otaku who created amazing E-models... To keep his identity a secret he had to shut her up.

It's a lovely one-shot that teaches "what matters isn't the look, but the heart"... I read most of the series of this author, my favorite being "Midori no Hibi"... There are other interesting One-shots by him and I'll probably talking.

This Oneshot is bundled in Aoi Destruction collection.

well, some of these oneshots were popular... but if I did post about this again I'll probably post more obscure ones. As I said before I wish there was a group that translates Treasure contestants. But well, they're all amateurs, even if one of them could be the next Kishimoto Masashi in ten years.

I hope you have enjoyed this post. Tell me if you want more of it :)

And by the way there's this steemit-anime Discord group, they can really use more members:

Do you know any interesting One-Shot?

Sort:

Hello again! Just saw your reply in my comment from yesterday. I'm still getting used to Steemit not having a built-in notification system (I heard it's coming soon? Not too sure). Lovely list of suggestions BTW. You recommended Hero Killer in the comment but it feels like a bit of a cliche for me unfortunately since I've quite a few manga in that genre already but I suppose I could give it a shot since it is just a one-shot. In today's list I actually find Hachigatsu no Shikisa and Full Scratch Eiji to be the ones that caught my interest. I've had Full Scratch Eiji in my MAL Plan To Read for some time already. Still haven't gotten there yet though 😁. Do you have a MAL account?

Sorry I don't have MAL account (even if I had one then I didn't use it)...

Full Scratch Eiji is really great, because it makes you feel as if you learned something from it after reading... so little one-shots give you that feeling.

Note to fellow readers using MyAnimeList: The one-shots Full Scratch Eiji and Hachigatsu no Shikisa are actually compiled in Aoi Destruction! and Akagami no Shirayuki-hime respectively.

Thanks I knew and mentioned this, but I should've mentioned it in a more obvious manner.

No problemo XD
