UNIPIN STORIES (The uniPin Addiction and awkward confessions)

As you're reading this post, I'm sure you're exactly like me—owning a cabinet overflowing with art supplies, except I'm talking about this particular "art supply" that I realised have been taking my whole life and interest.

THE UNIPIN ADDICTION

Unipins—those aesthetically pleasing pens that just breathtakingly sucked my whole schedule by luring me into buying lots of them.

In the early days, I was the type of kid who owned a cheap oil-based ballpoint pen and was happy I had it. I used it for writing, drawing, sketching (right, I even forget about pencils too often).

Gosh, I was this broke...and I don't even own a ruler

I was an avid sketcher so it didn't really matter what pen I was using. I just know I HAD to sketch. And if I knew how to document stuff before, I would've shown you a very old composition notebook of mine completely filled with silhouette art from just a cheap oil-based ballpoint pen. Yeah, Bic, whatever.

Now every summer, my family loves shopping for the first day of school. I would wander about the bookstore and stand before the stationaries sections, carefully studying each and every pen that looked so different from each other yet so similar in terms of quality and outcome.

Then I saw it, right before me, eye-level.

MY FIRST UNIPIN

It was the standard 0.3. I remember just looking at it for a very long time before finally having the courage to actually buy it. And it was a good investment, being a cheap kid that I was.

I hate to admit this but during the first few days of owning it, I was so conscious about emptying it out all too quickly (because I was a cheap kid like I told you and I didn't have that much savings to buy another one).

And you probably have seen this picture before (it was on my IntroduceYourself blog):

The pen just had a great history with my art journals and I love the fact that when I'm going through them, it's as if I'm retracking my expenses on those "good investments" (lol).

OWNING LOTS OF THEM CAN BE SO MUCH FUN

It's true, what you just read. Owning lots of them can be, when you think about it, face-palming. But USING them and actually having fun with being creative with them can be so therapeutic at times that even Depression is face-palming at me.

Now that I have countless of them, I have made countless sketches made with them as well:

After reading this post, I hope you're enjoying your unipin pens as much as I do. And if you are, share some pics of your drawings made with them. If it isn't obvious already, I am in LURVE with looking at other people's creative works. I'm sure I'd love to see yours as well.

I really love your architectural sketches. I am curious, if I ever get off my ass and get a post-apocalyptic pen and paper RPG that I have been working on for a while into semi-publishable state, would you be interested in picking up any paid commission work? I think your style would be great for the decaying cityscapes of a post-apocalyptic future. Cheers - Carl

Thank you, it would be an honor! Hope you had a great day!
