Rocket Scare (Dog Life Day #8)
This morning, while flipping the fried eggs, the siren sounded, and I said, "Oh, fuck!"
The clock said 11:05. A drill?
I went to our "office" to ask my husband, and on my way I saw two things:
- Our cat, Frostie, ears back, fleeing from the office.
- Our dog, Nefnef, headed towards the balcony to check the sound.
The first is normal. Frostie gets scared when noisy planes pass our house, and if we move around furniture or stuff.
But Nefnef?
When Rockets Rained Over Israel
Nefnef was born in May 2014. When she was a puppy in Tel Aviv, rockets rained over Israel. We were lucky in Haifa. We only had one rocket scare here, but in Tel Aviv it happened several times per day.
And when the siren sounds, you have one minute to reach a shelter.
Naturally, Nefnef came to connect the sound of the siren with rush and fear.
When we got her, she was three months old and scared of nothing.
Except the sounds of the boats in the harbor. They made her crawl under my table, every time.
Today, was the first time the sound of the siren didn't scare her.
And it was a drill, by the way.

Teddy Roosevelt’s dog, Pete, ripped a French ambassador’s pants off at the White House.
The place where you live, is there a war being fought nearby? Living in fear isn't ideal. I understand the alarms are to prepare you for emergencies but rocket emergencies? How do you and your family cope there? You are very strong.
Thank you, @solomonsel, yes, I believe that we're technically at war. At least there are terrorist groups who frequently try to hit us with rockets. But there are peace movements, too, dragging the other way. I live in Israel, in Haifa, which is mostly a peaceful place, so we don't live in fear here.
When there were many rockets raining over Israel, I was happy that my son lived in a safe room. He said it got crowded every time the siren sounded :D
I got scared once, though. My son sent me a text message saying, "I'm all right".
So I knew something was going on. Turned out that there had been a fatal shooting in Tel Aviv at the bottom of the building he lived in. He was awakened (worked by night) by the shots. A terrorist act.
I'm glad to hear that it was only a drill and that everyone is safe.
Thank you :)
