Should We Live in the Present? (Dog Life Day #5)

Should we live in the present

Dogs live in the present.

Dogs are happy (if not mistreated, but that's another story).

One of the things I love about being a dog-owner is to see the world through the eyes of Nefnef.

Woah, a CAT! That's fantastic. I love cats.

Wow, that nice lady gave me CHICKEN? That's fantastic. I love chicken.

A dog doesn't worry about health, eating food from the ground, unwanted pregnancies, untimely death (Look! A ball!), paying the rent or any of the other things we humans worry about.

So it's happy.

Does That Mean We Should Give Up Worrying and Live in the Present?

Yes, and no.

Yes, we should give up worrying, because worrying changes nothing. We can worry, and what we fear the most come true, or we can worry, and what we feared didn't happen.

Our worrying changes nothing.

But no, we shouldn't only live in the present.

For sure, we must enjoy every moment and not live in the past or just wait for the future to come, but we are human beings. We know that tomorrow exists.

If we only lived in the present, then our 30-day paycheck would only last a few hours, and we wouldn't have money to pay the rent the 1st, or buy food the 2nd.

Tomorrow exists... if we're careful when we cross a street. We have to look out for the car that can ram into us a few seconds later.

And we must remember past experiences that taught us something. Something that makes life better to live today and in the future.

So I'm Sorry

You'll have to leave the unconditional happiness to your dog. Learn from it. Appreciate life as it is now. See the small things around you. But never forget that you have a past, a present, and a future.

"If we only lived in the present, then our 30-day paycheck would only last a few hours, and we wouldn't have money to pay the rent the 1st, or buy food the 2nd." That was an interesting take on the idea of living in the present moment. I try to be in presence to the moment, which lifts all the weight off your shoulders. The moment has a strange kind of calm about it, no matter what is happening in life, when you just become present to it, you are able to distance from it, that kind of helps you see you're none of the drama going around you, but merely a witness to all there is. As such a lot of us are in a state where we're either thinking about the past, or anticipating the future, a bit to excessively, that is where it starts making things difficult I guess. But what do I know ;) Happy Writing! Cheers!

For sure there has to be a balance, and too many people live in the past and the future and forget about the presence. I aim at living as much in the presence as I find healthy, without using all my resources at once, whether that be my energy or my money.

Yeah, if you go like, oh! Who cares about tomorrow, just live in the present moment, let's drink all the wine, and spend all the money! Well, then that's a dangerous way to live in the present moment LOL

Indeed :) And if you ask my dog if we should eat the whole chicken today, I think she would say, "Of course!"

Apple and pear seeds contain arsenic, which may be deadly to dogs.
