What Makes You Wake Up In The Morning?

Today, I want to have a heart to heart conversation with you guys. Seriously, I am just typing this without even thinking about it so that the words can come out right from the heart.

One of my favorite things to do when meeting new people is talk about their passions and what motivates them to keep going. As I like to say, we are all unique individuals and so, we find happiness and meaning in so many different things.

If you really want to know someone, and I mean really look into their soul, just ask them what they are passionate about and where they want to be, a certain amount of time down the road.

This will tell you a lot about them because our passions and objectives in life kind of form our identities. Our life starts to revolve around these once we truly start pursuing them and this in turn slowly but surely starts shaping the individuals in a certain way depending on the path they choose.

Why Do You Get Up In The Morning

The term ‘passion’ is used very loosely today and often people misunderstand things that they like to do as things they are passionate about, but it doesn’t always work that way.

Your passion is something that consumes you entirely and you dedicate your heart and soul to it. It is the reason you wake up every day in the morning with a smile on your face and a raging fire inside of you to take things one step closer to the goal.

It is a journey that will demand blood, sweat and tears but in the end, it will be worth it. Yes, I understand that success is not always guaranteed but you owe it to yourself to at least give it a shot.

Not many people are able to do this however. You may have heard people say things like, “Oh, don’t go where your passion is, go where the money is.” or “It’s better to have a boring job that pays than to follow your passions which pays nothing.” I wonder why these people wake up in the morning.

Passion Ain’t Enough

We human beings are really complex creatures, psychologically speaking. So many factors both internal and external influence our actions that it’s no surprise that even the most passionate of pursuits meets its dead ends.

Those are times when the second piece of the puzzle comes into play and that is motivation. You see many people believe that passion alone is enough to get you out of bed and make stuff happen, but that’s not entirely true.

There can be moments or the ‘downs of life’ to be more precise when you are still passionate about something and yet don’t want to take even a single step forward, and trust me there are lots of such moments. During times like these you require motivation that thankfully can come in an infinite number of ways.

Only when passion meets continuous motivation (or drive), does magic happen. Most of the people who don’t make it miss that second ingredient.

Anyways, I would love to hear what your passions are in life and what makes you tick. Maybe I can get even more motivated getting to know all of your stories. Oh and by the way, my passion is writing :)

I have to admit that using Steemit as my #1 creative outlet right now has became my driving passion: The community, multiple levels of rewards -especially the interpersonal connections- the creativity and intellect acumen of the community and, last but not least, the strong philosophical undercurrents of freedom running through the platform gets me really excited.

For many years, it was powder skiing, rock climbing and, above all, windsurfing that consumed me more than I could imagine. After a ski accident cause by my overeagerness, I had to find another path and it is drumming, music and sound that took me over...

I am apparently a very passionate individual as it is seen in my cooking, dancing, and general interests in all of life and beyond. Great article that took me straight from the very first sight of your surfing dude!

Namaste :)

P.S.: At any time of the day, now, there is my girlfriend that can wake me up too! ;)

Yes, Steemit has become such a powerful medium in so many people's lives. It's absolutely amazing. And I'm glad to know that you enjoy all the different flavors of life. :) Thank you for such a wonderful comment.

This post reminds me of the Japanese concept of Ikigai. Ikigai translates as "reason for being" - why do you wake up every morning? You can actually complete a fun exercise by filling out terms in each of the following circles, and then viewing the intersection:

I personally find joy in counseling others - it's a combination of:

  1. What I love: being useful in advice, mentorship
  2. What I'm good at: One of my biggest skills is active listening
  3. What I can be paid for: Luckily, the economy rewards this skill
  4. What the world needs: I believe that the world can always benefit from advice and guidance

Yes, I came across this recently and I was so amazed by how the different aspects of our lives intersected so beautifully. Definitely a fun exercise :)

What a great exercise, thanks for sharing

What makes me wake up in the morning. My passion to give back to the world! For the kindness that has come my way, it is my way of saying 'Thank You. I love you.' Death changes you. The passing of my Sweetheart was a wake up call of how short life is and how important it is to selflessly give back to others. Priceless! Excellent post my friend and a important, thought provoking subject @sauravrungta.

Wow, you must be a really great man if your passion is to give back to the world. :)

Thinking about your questions had me struggling to articulate what I am most passionate about.
Certainly a thirst for knowledge would be up there on the list but without a doubt sharing my life, successes, trials and tribulations with my wife and people I care about is what gets me up in the morning.

A thirst for knowledge is something I have too! Sometimes I just have to know!

I wake up because I love this life so deeply. Yes sometimes I moan when is 6am and I am going to work, but I also love it if I have time to meditate. Because what I do matter and does have a meaning. Also maybe by waking up I am helping and inspiring other to do the same :) Great evening and great morning for tomorow

That's the way to do it :)

My passion is paragliding. I love it!

Yeah, it is really awesome. I have done it a couple times and it was so thrilling :D

I wake up each morning, stronger and more determined because I always feel I am almost there. The world has blessed me with a lot of opportunities like having parents, having true friends, being able to learn what not just anybody can learn. And most of all the greatest gift I feel the world would be disappointed if I don't use it, is my ability to be calm even in the face of failure.
I wake up each morning because the world has given me enough and I'd be ungrateful if I don't use them and give back to the world.

So wonderfully said. Thank you :)

My motivation every day is the same. I want to change the world. I am a Ph. D. student of Physics so I can almost feel it. The change I can bring. But this is also a curse for me. Every that I do not satisfy my own goals of improvement I just feel like I let myself and the world down.

Physicists are the real heroes :)

@sauravrungta great post. You really have a quality of self-reflection.

I am an early riser too but i believe most of the time what drives me is a sense of fear, a fear of failure. Which i guess is what drives most of us. It is so hard to discover what one is passionate about. Our judgment is clouded by the success quotient. I always believed that something one is passionate about is a realm of no parameters. You have no rungs to climb only your engagement and self satisfaction matters. Maybe ecstasy is the parameter for it. But such a definition of passion is lost in parameters of success and monetary value of it.

Maybe the way passion has come under the garb of materialistic world it lost its meaning. Even we find it hard to judge what we are passionate about.

I am still in a phase of self discovery but fashion is my world of ecstasy. I am a thinker who is trying to unfold mind through a pen.

Thanks for the kind words :) Yes, it can be difficult to discover what you are truly passionate about and yes, today, the word has bee misused so much that it has almost lost meaning.

My passion had always been a pilot which I couldn't find enough money for courses. The thing is sometimes how much you ever try to find a way for it, unfortunately there's no way. I'll never lose my passion about it, but I know after 6 years of searching every way for it, it's unlikely to happen now. The thing wakes me up in the morning is one day magic will work for me too. And I'll find another thing I want as much as that. Just I have to enjoy with life until that time. :) great post but it reminded me my past :)

Yes, sometimes life can be unfair like that. But it's great that you are looking for something that can be equally passionate :)
