I have learned from my autistic son
To give and receive
The most precious gifts of life
The gifts of caring, acceptance, appreciation and love

The gifts of caring
Understanding and meeting your needs
Showing my patience
Because I know you have tried the best that you could

The gifts of acceptance
That you cannot be like other normal kids
Having to put aside my expectations
Your differences are what make you unique

The gifts of appreciation
Appreciating that you my autistic son
Is a gift from God
Which is given to me for a purpose

The gifts of love
Giving right from my heart
Hopefully that the giving of myself to you
Will help you to achieve your fullest potential

this line is the one that touched me most ...
I could tell how much love has written these words.
My mom and I had a heart to heart talk months before she passed away at that time, i was barely going home and been away for some time. She told me to just be me, follow my heart, live a life and oblige myself not to fulfill the expectations of no one but myself.
Your son is very lucky to have you and I agree - he's a gift from God. Stay strong <3

Thank you for your kind words and for your encouragement.
I am trying to stay strong and live life one day at a time

Empathy is far too lacking in our world. Heartfelt words.

Agreed. It is sometimes difficult to show empathy to those who are so different from oursleves

'Born for Love: Why Empathy Is Essential--and Endangered' by Bruce Perry - one of my favorite books!
