Why religions and ideologies suck and why a truly logical and freedom-minded spirituality needs to be the core of our humanity instead

Cant coexist 2.jpg

First things first, religion and ideology are the same thing, the only difference is one references a god or gods and one doesn't. That means that any belief that you are willing to live, obey, sacrifice, fight, injure, kill, and die for is either part of a religion or an ideology. Most people don't look at it this way so I want to get this out of the way first.

Another point that requires clarification is what falls into a religion or ideology. Let's give some examples. Religions include: Paganism, Wicca, Satanism, Luciferianism, Freemasonry, Catholicism, Lutheranism, Islam, Sufism, Judaism, Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Taoism, Bahai, Mormonism, etc. Ideologies include: Communism, Socialism, Fascism, Anarchism, Capitalism, Technocracy, Atheism, etc.

People love religion and ideologies. I personally think this is because then people don't need to go through all the effort to think logically and critically all the time. I mean, how many people really want to have to think about how they should act in every situation and with every decision. It's just so much easier to hand your thinking and your life over to some religion or ideology that dictates how you should act. They even have people at the top that will very happily direct you with everything you are supposed to believe and do instead.

Of course there's the big heaven and hell carrot and stick that is used on people as well. "Do this or you won't be allowed into heaven." "Do that or you'll be roasting in hell for eternity." What ever happened to do the right thing for the sake of the right thing and not because of some eternal salvation or damnation? However, this argument doesn't fill pews and coffers.

Now I'm going to be honest here. I am a Christian, but NOT a Christian in either a religious or an ideological sense. I don't belong to a church. I instead philosophically believe in the very simple rule that Jesus Christ espoused as the essence of his teaching, "Love God above all things and love your neighbor as yourself." You can't argue with this logic. It's so simple. It's just the Golden Rule of "do unto others as you would want them to do unto you."

The Golden Rule guarantees personal freedom, personal autonomy, free expression for everyone regardless of who they are or what group they belong to. I don't see this as anything but common sense and the cornerstone upon which free society around the world has been historically built. What some religions may do in the name of Christ is a wholly different thing altogether. That's where religions and ideologies comes in and make the world into a living hell for anyone that doesn't ascribe to their belief system (and as well for those that do.)

Why are religions and ideologies inherently bad news?

In my view, people are not inherently bad based upon the religion they profess. However, religions and ideologies themselves are more dangerous than pretty much anything else on the planet. They horribly distort and subvert people's logic and reason on an ongoing basis. People do insanely horrible and destructive things based upon them. These people are even convinced that what they are doing is the right thing, even if it is highly illogical and destructive. This is the true danger of religions and ideologies.

I won't get into the debate here about what is and is not a religion or ideology versus a philosophy. Instead I would invite you to assess any religion or ideology you know of in accordance with a few simple assessment points. The more matches and more strongly it is represented by these points, the more it signifies something dangerous and destructive. If it doesn't fit most or all of these points, then we are discussing instead a peaceful philosophy.

Here's your checklist for dangerous religions and ideologies:

  • Encourage people to do things that are destructive or harmful to others or themselves in the name of their religion or ideology

  • Strive for more power for their religion or ideology at the detriment / loss of freedom of all others around them

  • Have dictatorial powers based in a select few that lead the religion or ideology without any real influence from their followers

  • Try to control and subvert truly representative law, governments, or other groups, and they do not already indirectly own or control

  • Do not work according to very simple, clear, and freedom-focused logic in how all people are treated (for people either within or outside the religion), e.g. "no harm to others", "love God above all things and love your neighbor as yourself", "inherent protection of the weak and innocent", inherent "freedom of thought, discussion, and expression" for all, etc.

  • Institutionalize any of the above dangerous and destructive behaviors either publicly or secretly (secretly to hide their destructive behaviors and therefore not be seen badly in the public light)

What's needed instead

Religions and ideologies simply act as divide and conquer techniques for the masses. Those in power use them to pit one group against another in either ongoing conflicts or major wars. Once a conflict starts, they take advantage of this to advance their agendas without any concern for the religions or ideologies that they profess to support along the way. People become simple pawns to their agendas via their fervent belief and support for one of the two sides are being manipulated.

The "Coexist" agenda (yes, it's an agenda) has nothing to do with really wanting to just get along. It has to do with "learning" to accept all religions and ideologies regardless of how destructive and violent they may be. What no one wants to mention is that some religions and ideologies are far more violent and destructive than others, and that some are even doing this covertly through long-term subversion. (e.g. Freemasonry)

After be forced together long enough in a society, conflicts between different religions and ideologies break down the social cohesion. This in turn enables eventual subversion of representative government. This is what is known as Cultural Marxism. At some point, a One World Government will be offered to the people as a new alternative. A mishmash UN religion will proffered to the masses as well. A religion that in reality worships Lucifer behind the scenes.

What is really needed to have a world of peace and coexistence is to turn to a logical and freedom-minded spirituality instead. A spirituality that focuses on the sanctity of freedom of the individual. A spirituality that fully rejects manipulation, subversion, and force to achieve its ends. Spirituality must be the foundation of our lives in order to have a healthy society. However, it needs to be a spirituality that is based upon real love and kindness to all and not based upon following some special beliefs or groups. Furthermore, we must use our logic and reason in full alignment with our spirituality for it to be fully effective. It can't be about handing over our thinking to some select few.

Many people make the mistake of simply going to the next extreme of atheism after they have been disappointed by the many destructive religions and ideologies that exist. I have a very different proposition. Embrace our inherent spirituality, but reject all those that want to hijack it through religion and ideology and turn us into their unwitting minions. Instead, find what is true and right and embrace this at the core of our beings as the real truth. This is what real spirituality is supposed to be about.

Well, I'm glad there's some of this true deep stuff on Steemit... You Sir/Madam/(whatever title) have just become my first real follow... I've also noticed that some humans just wear ideological labels, without adhering to said ideology... to keep up appearances to their human colleagues.. I guess...

Thank you very much. I take that as an honor. I hope I'm able to encourage some more real thinking and intelligent dialogue on Steemit. I'm glad to know that it's appreciated.

Regarding ideological labels, people definitely love to be defined by them. My belief is that most feel uncomfortable if they can't find a way to define themselves with at least some labels. Brands live off of this. People also need a feeling of belonging (as with gangs.) This is especially true for teenagers that are still forming their personalities, but it's also true for people that are stuck in a form of arrested development their whole lives. ( Also probably a large portion of the populace.)

good read, especially the last half. couple things i wanna state thou, in no way am i attacking you or am i an atheist Im just point somethign out here. Other than the bible there is no other proof of Jesus Christ, follow anyone else's writing around that same time, and no one mentions Jesus at all... was he even real?
also whats your thots on Stoicism? I'd say Im a devout stoic, just unsure if its an ideology or religion or something else. its pretty much everything you mentioned about the way people should act, but i dont know what to classify it under. if your unsure what it is, its an ancient logical filosofee I guess, look it up
and re steemed!

Thanks very much. In regards to your first question, there are quite a number of reasons that I believe that Christ was a real person. Unfortunately I don't think I can do it real justice here so I'm not going to attempt it. I think I would need another article for that.

Regarding stoicism, I have a tremendous amount of respect for it. The logic of learning from nature and living in harmony with it is absolutely correct. You will not find a better teacher than nature because we are part of it. Truly spiritual individuals always recognize this. They also recognize that disobeying nature and disobeying our own nature both bring nothing but pain and suffering.

There is an excellent quote from St. Augustine that I very much appreciate and that has a very stoic thinking to it. "Therefore the good man, although he is a slave, is free; but the bad man, even if he reigns, is a slave, and that not of one man, but, what is far more grievous, of as many masters as he has vices."

nice quote!
stoicism just makes sense, Im glad you also agree with it.

I was merely pointing out some things that I have read and seen regarding Christ, I wasnt alive than so I have no idea if he was real or not. Im not gonna just believe a book, just my 2 cents, I believe in a god, not necesarily Jesus but to each there own.

I understand your point. My belief in His physical existence has other reasons than just the biblical texts behind it. I am also not one that believes the Bible is some infallible text and everything in it is some sacrosanct message direct from the mouth of God. Everything in this world is fallible, the Bible is no exception.

We need to be constantly in the process of evaluating legitimate evidence of what the real truth is since "the powers that shouldn't be" are constantly doing whatever they can to distort a true understanding of the reality that we live in. Missing context, disinformation, confusion, and destruction of human purpose are the cornerstones upon which mankind is controlled. Orwell had it correct, “Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”

that is a good quote by Orwell, ince wokr!

According to Wikipedia, in an entry called Historicity of Jesus, "Non-Christian sources which are used to study and establish the historicity of Jesus include Jewish sources such as Josephus and Roman sources such as Tacitus." Later, it states "The Roman historian Tacitus, in his Annals (written ca. AD 116), book 15, chapter 44.,[37] referred both to 'Christus' and his execution by Pontius Pilate."

you know that Wikipedia is editable by the public?

Yes. Just because anyone can edit Wikipedia, does it change the fact that those historic texts exist and that they refer to a man called Jesus?

I dunno. im just stating that, i dont believe in Jesus, but I do believe in god

A pretty good article. Yes, religions are a subsets of ideologies.

People are never inherently bad

This isn't true. A portion of humans are narcissists / sociopaths.
These people do not have the ability of warm empathy. They can derive good and bad as simply things that others do. These people often torment and torture others, simply because they can, simply because it brings them joy.
Lying, deceiving, getting others to hurt themselves, this is their stock in life.

There is a great conglomeration of them in Washington DC and other places of power. It is the reason that govern-cements are not for the people, they are against the people.

Thanks a lot. I guess the question of whether you believe people can be inherently evil or not is based upon whether you view people through one of two lenses:

  1. These people have inherently evil souls that cannot be corrected based upon the overwhelming flaws in their characters
  2. These are people that have completely lost their way and that they may or may not find their way back to God and their humanity based upon their future decisions to reject the evil they have embraced

I believe the latter. This is not to say that I have any significant pity for the psychopaths and sociopaths that are currently destroying our world, but I do believe that these people always have the opportunity to change their lives and their destiny. Whether they take that opportunity is another thing.

I've changed my wording above slightly in any case. Thanks again for the comment.

Thank you for a great post!
"There are many religions in the world, each has a different religious story with base ideals and rules, each has thousands - millions of followers, but they cant all be right... Yet, each believer is sure that his religion is the right one! He will argue for that and wont accept other Ideas. "

This is a part of my new post, I think you will like it please check. ;D
@paps

Thanks very much. I read and very much liked your post as well. Upvoted!

I think you may also appreciate Rudolf Steiner's Philosophy of Freedom. It's much older than NLP and was written in the late 1800s. It focuses very heavily on the difference between knowledge and perception. Steiner was of the very strong belief that true freedom requires accurate perception and thinking and that without these, true spiritual freedom for mankind was impossible.

I will check it!
as soon as I finish reading Carl Jung's works (will take some time ><)
Thank you for the upvote!

Being a believer in God, but a sceptic about everything else, I agree with a lot you wrote here. I don't consider myself a Christian, but I do believe that there is much to be found in the book. Luke 10:27 being a great example.
We need to love, indeed. If we are not in a state of Love and openness, we are in a state of fear and protection. Most of the time this fear manifests as hatred. Love is the key. But in order to turn the key, we must be able to love those we fear, those that do us wrong. May you be with God, friend!

And with you as well!

We all need the strength of God to be able to stand firm in love and courage rather than hatred and fear. Without this strength, we create battles within and among ourselves instead of standing firmly together against the destructive forces that look to conquer and enslave humanity.
