Scotland's One Day of Summer

One day in Scotland something was different. The natives took tentative steps outside their clay houses to peer up in awe at a mysterious burning ball of fire in the sky.

What was it? They asked of one another. Some of them started discarding their many layers of clothing. Some others tore off their under clothes and capered in the golden light. Alabaster skin shining as the molten rays of the burning orb in the sky poured onto them.

Some spoke of having seen this ball of fire in the sky before. They called it the Son.

The ice that encased the souls of the Scottish folk melted in this warm yellow light.

Everyone put aside their fighting and instead carried flagons of ale and sweet mead to the green spaces where they caroused with their fellows.

The day, unlike others normally so short and grey seemed to go on forever. As the Son went down at last. People retired to their clay houses again, still abuzz with the excitement of this golden day.

Next day the rain pitter pattered from leaden skies. The sound awakening the Scots folk from their deep slumber. They dragged themselves drowsily to the thick glass windows of their humble clay houses and frowned at the sight.

Hearts hardened again. The previous day's joy extinguished. Heads nodded in resignation at damp routine of living here in the isle of mists.

Some were not broken. They would tell their children of this Son that visited and bought such joy to their meagre lives. Until then they would pray that the Son would come again.

I learn new words every time I show up at your posts! flagons of ale and sweet mead. I'm off to my Scottish English dictionary! :)

Ok I'm back! Got it!

Glad you got it old dog and thank you for stopping by!! I am sure you will be having a flagon of ale sometime soon!!

@meesterboom me, too -like kus-knee my jaw drop - with a wot?
you should write a book!
I love the 1st pic
it'll be back .. now we have the sun for a week .. :D ^ ^
tomorrow 19 degrees weeeeeee~~~~

Ah the first pic is a corker!! In the little park nearest me yesterday. Amazing little fuzzy things on a tree. I bet you would know what they were! Dammit. I will be back in work and the weather will be smashing!!!

@meesterboom sorry I don't know the name of that flower - you lost the bet (sticking my tongue out on you chico :D) peace!

You have betrayed me!!! Hehe. It's a tough one!

Scottish! ;)

Summed up nicely! Yes!!

Glad you do and thank you!!

HAHA! I really feel like my day is missing a crucial piece whenever I don't read anything from you. You always know how to paint a vivid picture. I should've known better than to read your post sans popcorn. To say that I was "captivated" is an understatement. This story, like all your stories, flowed really really well.

I'm starting to consider raising the bar when it comes to your posts. Hmm.. Hush, brain. Just sit back and enjoy the brilliance of @meesterboom :D

Also, I'm in the midst of playing with words as well (what an opportune time!) in the latest chapter of A Day in the Clouds (I included the link so that you won't miss it :) )

I really do appreciate the link because i check in as much as possible but sometimes the odd one has escaped me and that just will not do!!!

Hehe cheers man. I like to play with the fact that it was so lovely here and awful today!! We really do act like we have never seen the sun before when it comes out. Even though that not be so rare an occasion as i picture it!

Oh, yeah, I forgot to include it in my comments! Mad photog skillz, dude. Is there anything you can't do?? At this point, I'm not surprised if you have a selfie of yourself flying a thousand feet in the air.

I find that reaction very interesting, because where I live, we see the sun even though it's raining some times haha! I feel that your reaction is akin to us seeing snow fall from the sky, but that might be stretching it a bit haha

I think that is exactly the reaction we have. Only you're is for snow!

Hehe, i do like the principal pic. It was my favourite is the day. Cheers man!!

That was my favorite one, too! #professionallyShot

Haha oh my, is it really that bad? I can't believe that! Every day during my vacation to Scotland, the Son was out!

Maybe I was just extreemly lucky... or hallucinating...

I think you might have been lucky!! Hehe, perhaps not quite as bad. We had a great day yesterday and today is awful!

Aww that's such a shame! Honestly, that's what I dread the most when going back there... I really want to visit the beautiful country again, but I'm afraid the weather won't be nearly as good as the first time. Can't be that lucky twice!

Oh well, it's still a beautiful country :D

It is beautiful. Don't let my blarb put you off. If you come in summer at least the temperature is bound to be in double figures!!!

Aye! Oh, I'm definitely going to visit again. Once our financial situation improves a bit, we'll be able to take a proper vacation and Scotland is high on the wish list :D

Once steem good to the moon you can go for it :0D

Thank you for posting @meesterboom.

Lovely photographs and story-telling. Interesting....one can almost hear an analogy to the coming of The Son of God .........Jesus Christ...first incarnation and then looking forward to His return. Very much enjoyed thinking on these things.

Congratulations on the good news regarding your family.....here's wishing you and yours all the best. ...a toast......Cheers!

And a toast to you and yours too @bleujay!!!

You might have something there with the analogy!! ;0)

Excellent imagery there Mr Boom! Congrats!!

Cheers dude!! Can you tell i was miffed by the early morning frost and rain shower!!

Haha. Chance would be a fine thing!

Ah that pesky Son. Fickle as it is, just think if it DIDN'T show up now and then to mess with your day. When would you ever pull the flagon off the mantelpiece or first shelf of the side cupboard to imbibe. I suppose other excuse could be found, if pondered on long and hard and with great sacrifice...

So very well put. Great read with much laughter. Glad to see this phenomenon is world-wide. (Ever seen episodes of "Portlandia". They have some very funny takes on this following the sun about the city. Think you would enjoy it.)

I will have to check out this show. I fact I just did. it looks excellent. Now to see the best way to view it over here

Oh we find many excuses, In the winter, We moan over the lack of snow despite the cold, then moan when its not cold enough and is a poor mans winter! The flagone of course come out every time!

I gotta get me one of them flagon things..I'm pretty sure we're just not doing the alternative conditions complaining thing all that correctly here. We bemoan the daily variation just fine, but it's that other addition with the handle we seem to be missing out on...

Glad you like that show. Thought you might like that humor after reading your posts. Pretty sure there are some Youtubes of some. I don't have cable/sattelite, so have to bother friends or house-sit to watch it. It helps to understand the culture of that city, which they are spot on about every time, but even without this, I think the ideas are pretty universal. The one on preparing for a day hike cracks me up every time.

The day hike one I will go a hunting to watch!

Yeah,, its so interchangeable here that I think that is what sparks the moaning and the conversation off most!

I like shows that show off the thinking and humor of a city. So much better than broad brush stroke national ones at times

It has also been said in another legend that the Son walked on the water. I can attest to this legend, since living by the lake when I was growing up I often watched this phenomenon near the end of each day.

You were playing with the words like that, am I right? Absolutely brilliant story, and no surprise there!

Aha!! Yes indeed I was. Well done you, I liked that one as well!
