HALLOWEEN ... Do we sin if we celebrate?

Undoubtedly, Halloween has become one of the most popular festivals, both in the United States and Europe, and in Latin America, from the 70s to the present, thanks, in large part, to its advertising dissemination through of cinema, television and social networks. This festival is celebrated on a day like today, October 31, and although each country has its own traditions around it, they all agree on its meaning: It is a day of extreme closeness between the world of the living and the world of the dead. According to tradition, this day, the spirits of the deceased and other entities from other spiritual kingdoms, are free to roam the earth to visit houses, families, towns and cities.

Even so, the party is joyful and exciting for many. Thousands of children and young people often disguise themselves in terrifying clothes and stroll through the streets to ask for sweets and candies, repeating the phrase "trick or treat", after which they expect to receive such treats or otherwise, they will spend some joke or prank on the family visited

However, what for many is a happy and fun holiday, for others it is the most important day for the followers of the evil Satan. Many claim that on the night of October 31, the occult and witchcraft satanic powers are at their highest level, at their strongest point. Therefore, in many countries this day black masses, spiritist rituals and other meetings related to occultism and witchcraft are held, so participating in this celebration does nothing but open the doors of darkness.

This is how a controversy has arisen between the convenience or not of getting involved is this well-known festivity, on the eve of November 1 and 2, day of the faithful departed and of all the saints.

Although it is evident that there is much of superstition and fantasy represented in the images of witches, sorceresses, walking dead, vampires and gourds lit, it is not less likely that this date is also used by those who relate to the world of witchcraft, the evil or the occult, because there is everything in the Vineyard of the Lord.

Now, I think that since each person has the power of free will, it is up to each person to review their spiritual values and decide whether or not to participate in said celebration, or in what form it does so.

However, reflecting on this controversy, what most calls my attention today, is the indifference of the masses in our society to celebrate other things that would make life a bit more bearable and productive. I wonder, for example, why today's society does not celebrate with the same passion and vehemence days to promote, in the same way, global activities or festivities that encourage the care of the environment, the values of cooperation and solidarity for the sick , the prisoners, those who suffer from hunger, poverty and abandonment? How about a day to work with the elderly, with the refugees, with the abused animals?

It is another word, a day to pay honor to love, to help others, where media and social networks go to promote massively and we can do it with the same joy, enthusiasm and fury with which we celebrate the night of Halloween? Perhaps for some, these issues are boring for a society that likes to celebrate in another way, but everything is a matter of the values that society strives to establish. It is only a reflection, especially for those who call ourselves Christians and good citizens of the world. The result would be extraordinary! They do not believe?
