When we make a mistake...
Human as we are we all make mistakes.
We are not perfect. But in all those faults I believe there are always lessons to learn. Lessons that would teach us to become a better person. So there’s no need to worry.
Last 2 years ago, at the last Miss Universe pageant where the Philippines’ Pia Wurtzbach won the title, he (Steve Harvey) mistakenly announced the first runner-up as the winner. After several seconds, he realized his mistake and quickly announced the rightful winner.
Imagine the feeling of Miss Columbia, the first runner-up after this; she thought she won and was already making her first Miss Universe walk, when suddenly Steve announced that there was a mistake, and pronounced her the first runner-up instead.
That was an embarrassing moment for Mr. Steve presented on an international TV.
Indeed it was. If I am in his shoes I really don’t know what to do at that time. Maybe my feelings were I was like a melting ice in front of millions of people around the world.
This incident might have also caused an unwarranted emotional chaos for the two contenders involved at that moment. It could be one tormenting incident that both of them will never forget in their lifetime.
Last year, he was again the host; and this time he didn’t messed-up. If he will do the same mistake again? Perhaps it’s no longer due to natural human error, but something fishy or could be pure carelessness.
People who kept on doing the same errors over and over again should not be trusted anymore.
"I'm Steve Harvey and I got it right,” he said at the end of the pageant. Funny but he also had his mistake of a lifetime so last year he was so careful already.
I think he has redeemed himself. Yes, he did and I’m sure will be more careful again next time.
How did he do it?
Throughout the pageant, he was able to joke about his mistake. At one time he said, “Let’s get it out of the way, I know what you are thinking.”
Reigning Miss Universe, Miss Pia Wurtzbach, had also helped by telling him jokingly,”You have made me the most famous Miss Universe.” Yes, he did, it was not an ordinary announcement of winners, I mean there was a twist, and it’s like a suspense movie created with the intention to sway the minds of the viewers and convince them into thinking of something else away from the real thing.
Miss Columbia, the first runner-up last pageant also joked with him. She said, “A lot of people hate you; but you know I love you.” Why? Maybe because Steve Harvey made her Miss Universe for few seconds, haha.
I believe we have a lesson to learn here.
It is not the end of the world when we made an embarrassing mistake.
Or when we found ourselves in an embarrassing situation which was beyond our control. We have to acknowledge the mistake or mishap, promise ourselves to do better next time, forget it, or release it by “joking about it” and then move on; and move forward.
Although I know it would not easy to move on. Forgetting an error made in front of millions of viewers is a great task.
But in our life, sometimes we are also placed in the same situation. What are the things that we should do? People might get angry with us. A lot of people will hate us, but that’s okay. It is a normal response to a situation wherein one has committed a grave offense. Although not deliberately but part of being human.
Now since we made mistakes, I think it’s best to accept it.
People sometimes denies the fact that they made errors. People sometimes find it hard to accept that indeed they committed something which is not right.
When we learn to accept our flaws and imperfections.
I think that’s the time that we will be willing to ask an apology. This is one very important thing to do when we made mistakes. People may not be able to forgive us quickly but in due time, they will surely learn to forgive us.
But do you think asking for forgiveness is an easy thing to do? Honestly for me “I’m sorry” is one of the 2 hardest words to utter. “I love you” is the other, which I also find it hard to say especially when I really don’t mean it, in other words, I won’t say it when I don’t mean it.
In our life sometimes we are forced to say or admit things we don’t want to just to make things right.
I mean, let’s take for example the life of a married couple. Most of the times the one who loves the other most would resolve into asking for forgiveness even if he or she didn’t commit anything wrong, just to patch up the misunderstanding and that person sometimes we call or consider a martyr.
Just to end up the argument and to keep the relationship one would confess doing the wrong thing even if in reality he/she didn’t.
Anyhow and to end up this argument, no I mean to wrap things up, I would say that when we make mistakes, the best thing that we should do is to accept it and then do our best to be able to ask for forgiveness and most of all, to do the best we can to change for the better.
