Vlog #34: The way I curate has completely changed. Manual mode and the 7-day payout window is a blessing.

in #life7 years ago

After just two days of HF19, I realized I can no longer use a bot in combination with manual voting for curating.

I have switched to full manual mode.

The reason I chose this is that the amount of influence I have on the platform has become much more than before and therefore my responsibility has gone up.

The 7- day reward payout is a blessing

For manual curation, the 7-day payout (from 24h) is a true blessing. And I can say that the implementation of this model before releasing HF19 was brilliant.

Even if you miss a post and see it 4 days later it's still possible to give a reward. And because the curve is now linear it doesn't really matter when you give it. The amount will be the same.

I have and supported many different content creators in the past. I mean to keep doing this. But votes can come at any time within 7 days and at a different percentage. I hope this is ok.

The amount of time curation takes me has also increased a lot. But I think this is fair because the Steem blockchain has given me back so much. One of the things is Freedom. Something I have been chasing for years.

I'm still trying to settle into this new role.

I talk about curation and the way voting works in my vlog.

I would love to hear how your curation rewards compare to your voting rewards
directly (percentage comparisons, for example). Are they higher?

Hi Exyle- Discovered you through through @Craig-grant and glad I did. What a great way to start each morning. Thanks for the education! ✌️

Thank you so much! And I learned a lot from him too. How to be free being the most important.

Hello exyle, I'm quite new to Steemit. I'm wondering if you could help me with embedding videos to your post. Is there any instructions regarding uploading videos on Steemit? I appreciate it a lot.

Cheers!

I just upload them to youtube and paste the url in the editor.

I feel ya a million percent. But I'm still going to be using bot voting to cover some of my low stake holder/quality poster bases to make sure I don't miss them. Gotta help 'em rise up! So many lovely people, so little time. It's going to take some serious time, effort, and painful consideration. I mean, how in the hell do you quantify how much someone is worth?! Aahhh!

Yeah, I feel what you are saying. Indeed so many people and it's impossible to look at everything. I think every 10 seconds a new blog is created. It's going to be a learning curve in more ways than one.

The past few days I feel like there's a new blog every 0.000001 seconds! It has been exploding rather rapidly lately. Interesting times!

Well, thats a good way to use bots, but i have seen many whale that use bots for the opposite, to curate big payout posts, and minnows get no chance...

Wow that is awesome of you @Exyle to realize the weight and gravity your SP has and realize the responsibility of finding new content so that distribution does not stay in the hands of a few big bloggers.

Great work and awesome post. Following.

Bots are harmful, if you use a bot, new authors never gonna have the chance to get upvoted... As for the number of votes, 80$ for a vote is pretty much, you could down the slide to 10$ and still give 8$ to each vote which is good, and you could curate all day without going down 80% voting power... I think people is still learning and not using the new feature well yet...

I agree with your new curation rules @exyle - a lot of people post crap out of FOMO - I'm going to do a vid on that later. Quality vid as always :)

P.S. I'm gonna RS this one today too @exyle as it's gonna save me from a lot of minnow pain when it comes to explaining the new curation rules ... I'll just simply point them to this post :)

Thank you, man! That's nice of you.

Resteems are getting cut back too as well as curation like you say in your vid @exyle - later I'm going to do a video called '@mindhunter Discusses: Do You Suffer From Steemit Hard Fork FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)?' - I think FOMO has a lot to answer for for all crap content on this site! I'm sure you'll share a lot of the views in this video ... look out for it much later on :) For now, Steem on with your quality work as always man!

This is in regard to people that actually have a slider..beginners have yet to obtain the slider and give percentages they wish to give on a upvote...the slider is obtained after a certain amount of steem power has been obtained. It is so interesting to learn..I have learned from the very beginning its very easy to lose voting power as I did it very early on..and do it quite often.. the change has made it ..change for me in the way that.. I have to be more selective about who I give to...and I have learned I actually need to wait until my voting power goes back to 100 before I begin to reply...Interesting as I didn't think the fork would change so much so fast in the little amount of time I have been here...its a skill to play here..with a huge amount of commitment to learn..to be successful. Thank you for you videos..and congrats on your success!

The more I learn about Steemit, the more find out I don't know. This has been fun looking forward to learning more. Thanks for the insight.

I get it..it takes hours and hours of time to learn..and tons of research..its a real commitment..im my opinion..

@thebookofuma see my other comment use he slider in chainBB forum if that is a concern to you.

So far I like the hardfork, but it seems like my views are down. Especially with the massive influx of new blogs. When I look at the "New" tab it just seems like there is a lot of poor content. I want to see more depth to writing and more talent. I suppose I need to sift through if I'm going to find it.

Cheers mate and thanks for the good write up.

@seanengman

this hard fork was indeed very special :)
I also changed to manual upvoting and for me it seems almost everybody did.
However I still try to vote as much good content and comments as possible, just using less voting power so that everyone gets a little reward from me :)

On comments, I usually vote with 3%.

nice :) I vote on comments between 2-10% (sometimes up to 25%)
