New Year's Traditions and a Message for 2019
Our family has a New Year’s tradition that we've held annually for decades. The ritual consists of the male of the house going outside, then crossing the threshold carrying a branch from the Christmas tree. He makes way throughout the home circling the greenery above his head in each room, then exiting via the back door. I'm told this is done to remove any lingering negative energy from the prior year while ushering in a fresh start.
Sometimes the role of the "man" was performed by a young boy when no adult male was present. I've never been able to find out the origin of this unusual practice, perhaps a vestige of a spiritual belief from long ago? Sort of chasing out the bad vibes in order to make way for the good.

A new year's resolution from the heart
So I got to thinking. In this season of resolutions, we should capture the essence of "turning the page" into 2019. Let this be the year of healing, remission, and acceptance. If you've had a beef with someone, long-held grievances or personal grudges, take this opportunity to let them all go...
Reach out to the one you've been estranged from and start anew. Refresh and restore a broken relationship into something beautiful. Mix a pound of forgiveness and a spoonful of love. Add a dash of empathy with a heaping helping of hope. Bake and serve. This recipe is good for the soul and a great way to truly say: HAPPY NEW YEAR! :)
