TWO HABITS TO GIVE UP (PT III) - THURSDAY THOUGHTS BLOG [WEEKLY]

in #life7 years ago

This week I extend on the habits that were set out in the previous segment post on https://steemit.com/blog/@earnonlinewith/two-habits-to-give-up-pt-ii-thursday-thoughts-blog-every-thursday. You might want to read that post as the advice there will correlate with these next two habits you need to give up.

A habit is a tendency or behavior that is repeated regularly until it is done subconsciously thus making it harder to give up. Practicing good habits is essential to being the best person you can be whether to yourself or others. In reality, a good habit is often more difficult to maintain in the short-term than maintaining a bad one.

It seems as though humans are prone to developing bad habits without any effort on their behalf, it's just in our nature. Things that are worthy in life are often not the easy ones.

Giving up a bad habit is just as hard as developing a good one but if you want to change it badly enough then you will succeed. This week's two bad habits you need to eliminate in your life are Procrastination and Fear of Failure.

Without further ado,

Procrastination

One of the most infamous habits of all is procrastination. We’ve all fell victim to this sneaky habit at one point or another and on different scales. Procrastination is the postponement of an activity on to be undertaken at a later time. The reason that we’re almost always at a disadvantage when up against this habit is because there is always an excuse to do it indirectly. Whether it’s because our favorite movie is on or we need a break because of fatigue, there’s always an opportunity for procrastination to strike.

Delaying some stuff wouldn’t matter as much if we had all the time in the world to do the things which need be done but then again we wouldn’t be debating this topic. If we had all the time in the world, we probably would not get anything done because there is always a tomorrow. Unfortunately for us, time is always ticking and moments of opportunity don’t hang around for long which means we have to get things done whilst we can.

The best advice I would give for countering this habit would be to hear all the excuses and still do what needs to be done anyway. It’s very rare that we’re faced with a dilemma of choosing between what we should be doing and what we might never get to do again. They will be another opportunity to watch that movie or take a vacation, but the setback you take now though can never be regained, it’s Gone with the Wind of time.

Next time you feel that edge to stay in and do nothing, pick yourself up and go to work anyways. To keep moving forward doesn’t mean you’ll die or lose it means you’ll get stronger and achieve much faster as you go on.

Secondly,

Fear of Failure

This is the Goliath of bad habits because it is so subtle that it can become part of our personalities – the fear of failure. It is one of the hardest habits to get rid of because it is intertwined and disguised as many other personal characteristics. For example, a lack of confidence, negativity, self-doubt, anxiety and the list goes on. The fear of failure prevents many of us from even attempting to do something and hinders us by default.

It robs us of our ambition to achieve greatness in whatever we do. We start thinking about what other people will say when we fail instead of looking at the positives. Our lack of “confidence” decides for us that it is better to have nothing to lose and to rather stay average because then we’ll fit right in the shadows with the rest.

Even with the mighty Goliath in front of us we can still win because anything is possible. You see how quickly things can change when you have a positive mindset? You need to be positive to take on a giant, whenever you feel the fear creeping in just take a moment and ask yourself, am I being positive? The direction you take from that moment on will determine whether you’ll succeed or not in slaying the fear. LOL you might still fail but the vital process was getting rid of the fear and the more you succeed in doing that the more confident and bold you become.

The reason fear is such a huge part of our beings is because it is crucial to our survival especially back in the days when we lived in the wild with dangerous predators. When we are in a fearful situation our senses become heightened so that we can fully grasp the situation we’re in. Power comes from learning to control that fear and using it to your advantage not against you. The next time you feel fearful of failure use that fear as motivation to crush and succeed.

Its so exciting to be on the ground floor. I think most people don't realize how lucky we are to be a part of this as a community. Things of this magnitude are usually only available to the elite. If the power of the community could be harnessed the growth could be exponential
