Knives (handmade) 101 # WIPs April 2018
Hello dear Steemians!!!
It occurred to me that since I've started posting non-knives content, it almost took over my page.
Therefore, I've decided to show you what I have been doing in my not-so-small-anymore workshop.
Before The Big Move I heat treated a new batch of knives - I think it was 13 or close enough.
Here there are, ready to get their final profile
I've divided the batch into manageable sub-batches, and I'm currently working on four (4) of them. Three are reserved and one - the Bowie... Well, we'll see how it goes, could be it stays with me. Anywho, I'll give you a pic-based walkthrough from the heat treatment to how they look now. All of them are in 1095 steel, the chef's ones in 4 mm thickens and the Bowie in 8, and me being me 75% will have hamon. Here it goes! Before the heat treatment - the members of our sub-batch are: the second from the left, the third, and the last one. The 4th one is not in this pic.
BTW: @robali123 See, I didn't forget - you can see the knife for our collaboration laying on top in the bottom right corner.
I am slow, but I will get there (eventually).
Bowie: pre heat-treatment grind
My super-secret-I-can-tell-you-but-I-have-to-kill-you quenching method

Waiting to get their centre line scribed before the grinding
Big Gyuto_1 at 40 grit
Bowie at 40 and with a quick dip in the acid All the girls done on the grinder and off to a final profiling of the tangs and hand-sanding And that's it! Thank you for dropping by, and as always if you have something to say drop a comment below. Also, be sure to check out my previous posts on handmade knives.

Hello @docsmith, thank you for sharing this creative work! We just stopped by to say that you've been upvoted by the @creativecrypto magazine. The Creative Crypto is all about art on the blockchain and learning from creatives like you. Looking forward to crossing paths again soon. Steem on!
Thanks guys - mush appreciated!
Wow! Great work
Tickness of bowie? Very compliment for heat treatment
Un saluto, nicola
Grazie mille!
Bowie: 8mm.
HT - thanks, it's far from perfect but I'm tweaking it every time, and hopefully getting better.
lots on the go then! Nice to see the collab piece in its very early stages. Im not sure if you follow @armadilloman, the leather worker. i had a thought the other day that perhaps we could do a three way collaboration if this one goes well. a belt holster/protector for a blade would be nice with a wrapped handle.
Still a lot of things to do - orders mostly, before I even start :)
@armadilloman - seen his stuff, and I am following him now
Yep a holster would be cool
Very interesting work...@docsmith..
Knife are awesome and looking so sharp ..
Thanks, they are not sharp yet :)
