Move Slowly, With A Purpose.
A steady drop of water.
Over time, it will erode anything in its path.
Everything you do should be done with the mindset that you're working today for a future that you may never see.
You know that putting in the consistent effort every single day will build the sturdiest of foundations. This is how all great men think.
What's the point of rushing to complete something, or to get somewhere if it has no staying power? What's the point of being a flash in the pan? Is that worthwhile?
Is that rememberable?
You get to where you want to be through small, deliberate, consistent effort. You feed the habit every single day, no matter how small.
Pick five habits. Write down the smallest step you can take every single day to get an effect. Then do it. Then do it again. And again. And again. Until the day you die.
Because the secret is that you get to pick your addictions. We're all addicted to something, or some version of a thing. Some of us are addicted to emotional pain. Some of us are addicted to the physical type. But all of us have something that we habituate, that we do more than anything else.
Habits are the neutral word for addictions.
A heroin addiction? Not so good.
An exercise addiction? Good, but can be taken to extremes.
The key is moderation, keep charting upwards at a steady, even pace. Because if you speed up the process too much, you'll end up creating a large amount of amplitude in a small period of time.
This means you'll have much more room to fall backwards, which can set back steady progress and absolutely decimate short-term, rushed gains. The harder the pendulum swings one way, the harder back it will swing the other.
Setbacks will happen. So why not do as little as you have to, make progress, adn keep the chances of big setbacks low? The key to success is steady progress + limiting the chance of setbacks. The key to progress is steady habits, every single day, no matter what, building on what you already have completed.
So what will it be? Going 200 mph and maybe getting the finish line? Or walking the minimum length you need to go each day so you can guarantee you finish?
