Borran's Beer Review: Brewdog Cocoa Psycho
Hey everyone!
Today, I'm reviewing a Russian Imperial Stout called Cocoa Psycho from the brewery Brewdog. I've been waiting for a long time to have this beer, and I have high expectations because I've heard good things about this beer.
Malts in this beer: Extra Pale, Wheat, Dark Crystal, Black, Roasted Barley and Smoked Weyermann. Hops: Cascade. Yeast: Wyeast 1272 - American Ale II.
Description of the beer:
"Welcome to the world of Cocoa Psycho, a liquid dimension where pure indulgence reigns. 18th Century Imperialism meets 21st century optimism. And decadence meets detante in this bitter-sweet psychosis of a stout. Silky smooth coffee beans, chocolately cocao nibs and dark malts combine to excess with infusions of vanilla pods, all resting on a toasted oak chip backbone. Eventually, you'll come face-to-face with the madness required to make this beer; a kind of insanity that would have made Rasputin himself proud. Cocoa Psycho - Liquid decadence for the people."
Brewdog was founded in 2006 by friends James Watt and Martin Dickie. From April 2007 to November 2012, the brewery was located in Fraserburgh. In the fall of 2012, they moved to a new larger brewery in Ellon. It is Scotland's largest independent brewery. In 2006 they had only 2 employees and produced 105,000 liters of beer, in 2015 they produced around 13.5 million liters of beer and had 540 employees.
Late in November 2009, Brewdog presented a new beer called Tactical Nuclear Penguin with 32% alcohol, which was then considered the strongest beer ever brewed. The high alcohol content had been reached by freezing distillation.
Here's a list of their most well known beers:
Punk IPA
Dead Pony Club
Elvis Juice
5AM Saint
Jack Hammer
Jet Black Heart
Hazy Jane
Cocoa Psycho
Appearance: black color with a small beige head.
Smell: roasted malt, coffee, chocolate.
Mouthfeel: full body, soft carbonation.
Taste: coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, quite sweet with some bitterness.
You can tell right away that this is a strong beer. It really warms up your body, it has a very rich and hefty taste and the alcohol went straight to my head. But the good thing is that you can't find any alcohol taste, very well hidden. Nice tones of coffee and chocolate can be found.
All in all, I'm a little bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it's a very solid beer but nothing special. I'd hoped for more because it's a well-known beer with a good reputation and it is also quite pricey. The extra alcohol content didn't provide anything. Honestly speaking, I would rather drink a beer around 5-7 % that would probably be just as good as this one.
Verdict: My rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Thanks for resteeming!
I think you just summed up most Brewdog beers, good solid beers that are enjoyable but they suffer from the hype they receive.

Yeah, you're right! Maybe their beers are a bit overrated?
