The most dangerous animal on earth, not what you think, nor what you're told
I like to read about animals and dangerous ones at that, there are plenty of "top 10" lists out there and they all list the same things, certain insects, crocodiles, even sharks who are only responsible for approximately 6-10 deaths a year seem to make the list.
One thing most have in common is the top two. Humans come in second and mosquito's come in first. every. damn. time.
When they make these lists some of the animals on them are directly responsible for human deaths such as the crocodile (1,000 per year) or the hippo(500 per year), while others are indirectly responsible like the assassin bug (12,000 per year) or freshwater snails (20,000 per year). The insects and bugs that make the list are responsible for human deaths by way of pathogens and not direct attacks or their own deadly attributes.
This kind of bugs me (hehe no pun intended) because the top two places are humans and mosquitoes. Humans are given something like 450,000 deaths a year in these stats while mosquitoes are given around 750,000. The major difference is in the measurements, or rather, what they measure
While mosquitoes are always ranked first at 750,000 it is because of the diseases they carry, Malaria and Dengue fever are the most deadly with Malaria alone accounting for approx 600,000 deaths, but when they count human deaths they count homicides or murders.
Well to me this is wrong. If we're going to hold mosquitoes responsible for deaths caused by the diseases they carry then shouldn't we also be holding humans accountable for the diseases they carry? Think HIV/AIDS, in 2016, 1 million people died of AIDS-related illnesses, that alone would put us in the top spot. So what if we add all the other diseases we carry? Influenza (49,000 in the US alone), Rabies, even the Bubonic plague is still around today and yet we only attribute homicides to our death statistics whilst holding mosquitoes responsible for things they can't help like Malaria.

In fact if you look at the diagram above even humans are partly responsible for the spread.
But we looked at homicides, we looked at diseases, what if we were to take into account war? self induced famine? other types of human caused death? our numbers would be in the 10's of millions, far more than some poor little bloodsucker who doesn't know any better, and the biggest difference between us is we do know better.
To ever try and say the the mosquito is the deadliest animal is naive at best, ignorant at worst. Humans have and probably always will be the most dangerous species to ever walk the earth. Both to ourselves and every other living thing here.

I’ve had severe near death experience with dengue so I can relate to this o.o
ive heard it can be pretty brutal.
We have lots of these blood suckers around my house at the moment due to unseasonal heavy rains.
i haven't noticed any near me yet but no doubt they aren't far off. it hasnt quite warmed up here enough i dont think

I can't walk into her house without them swarming to me. Told her I was getting bitten the other night while half asleep, she didn't think there was really any, like 3 grouped by the roof lol.
my missus is the same, they go for her like nuts and im usually fine
