Hammock Life 101: In the bush or outback, the homestead, offgrid, a deck or your backyard -- Hammock Life, is a good life.

in #life7 years ago

There are 2 types of people:

Those who have hammocked and loved it.... and those who have never been in a hammock.

I put in over 200 nights last year in a hammock right into the snowy cold winter time here in Canadastan and basically sleep better in a hammock than in a bed.

I know there are some people who are ground dwellers when they go into the bush or camping, and some people who really do not like hammocks after they try them.... but honestly, there are no pressure points in a hammock like on a flat surface... like a bed.

It gets you off the ground, away from the bugs and the cold sucking the life out of you.

Hammocks are a super small and portable bed/shelter in one, smaller than a tent, and all you need is a tarp with it, also super small, packable and portable.

This stuff can honestly be so small and lightweight, both can pack down TOGETHER around the size of a large softball, I am not kidding!!

It is kinda like being back in the womb again and everyone has womb in their life for more comfort like this!!

But Barry, the BUGZ!!!

--

A bug net attached to or around your hammock fixes all the issues for that ---bugs love me, I do not like them, I speak from honest to goodness experience.

They bother me and they are attracted to me and I can live in a hammock quite literally. I love the gentle swaying motion, being off the ground, suspended in the air and a cocoon of awesomeness..

If you have the proper baselayers on..... trust me, you can do it all year, and if you add the right UNDERQUILT that hangs tightly under the length of the hammock, it removes the draft under you and we can get more technical from there.

Find a friend today with a hammock and take it for a spin --- you can thank me later friends!!!

Hammocks can be hung on trees which are nearly everywhere, off a truck or pole on one end and off another pole or fence/deckpost etc on the other end, have a look, there are nearly always objects like this 12-20 feet apart in life and if not, like I said, a pole or truck etc can be moved to make up the other side for hanging!

The sheer strength/weight of the angle of the hang is honestly not as much as you think it might be!

Thanks for reading, have a nice day.

Nice, I've done a lot of camping but never in a hammock. I'll have to give it a shot!

So Meep, what is your favourite kind of #Hammock anyways?

Single? Double?

  • what brand are you feeling??????

PLEASE give #HammockLife a chance.

A properly set up #Hammock means you will never go back to a bed either LOL!

I am installing two 6"X6" fence posts in my back yard to attach a hammock to. It's the best way to unwind.

I love it, that is what I am talking about!

#BushCraft in the backyard!!

I have 4 hammocks. Three I bought on sale from Yukon Outfitters which are double hammocks for sleeping 2 people. The 4th is called "Ticket to the moon". I had it special made for myself and its a 2 tone double. You can choose from different colors and configurations to suit your needs from their website. The next hammock I am going to get might be a "Warbonnet BlackBird XLC". You can never have enough hammocks. lol. Have to wait a bit though because I just bought a Snugpak Scorpion III tent which I am using right now. Taking a break from hammocks a bit to enjoy tent life. For winter I use My military MSS sleep system in my hammock along with an underquilt. Super snug and warm. I prefer hammocks over tents any day though. There is nothing like them. Good post. Great info. I suggest more people try hammock life, its great!

I typed a long reply out and it disappeared again for no reason like it has been doing. Sigh.

I know everything you just mentioned, great reply.

Sorry, I don't retype crap when stuff glitches man!

You're good man! Hey I did an introduceyourself post if you wanna check it out. Not fishing for a high vote just wanted you to know who I am better. Thanks in advance for looking. Also running a (Foxfire) Bushcraft Book giveaway for 10 books # 1 -10. Check em out dude! Thanks. Hope things are going well for you! I joined THL - the homestead life group too.

This is great @barrydutton and makes me want to buy hammocks for both myself and my kids (both under 5) right now and go chill in the woods and give them a taste of what they're missing from nature! Thanks for the inspiration!

Great reply.

YW my friend!!

Haha, nice blog! I love hammocks but I've never slept in one. Like your writing style: resteemed. Will definitely follow you!
Enjoy your evening! ;)

Great comments, thanks a lot!!!

I'd love to be in a hammock overlooking a calm cool lake right about now :)

I can sell you a property on the water I guess LOL

And there not just for sleeping thRIJUYLNP.jpg

That's great. The shade comes with you...Brilliant:)

Ha!!! I had a few people send that one to me on #Fascistbook the last couple years, I like that thing, multi purpose!

Needs a solar panel and it is a truly capable off grid everything LOL

Hammocks are great. I used to take a tent with me on kayaking trips, but now it's just a tarp and a hammock. So much better. Not only is it more comfortable than the ground, but they take up less space, and they are way easier to set up in the dark. No need to try and find a good flat spot with a headlamp only to find out there is a rock that jams in your back through the night.

This is what I am saying here people!!!!

Once you make the switch, you can never go back.

I tell people this also.

I am currently trying to get a Statist to try the hammock.

I may have to coax him in with a statist cookie or something.....

Just tell them there is a tax to be able to freely use the hammock whether they are going to try it or not and threaten to take their belongings if they don't pay. They'll not only want to freely try the hammock, they'll pay you to do it too. Win win for everyone.

LOL, you are a beaut.

I pondered using that # but nobody would see this post if that one was used believe me, I thought hard, I have used that # on all other SM sites for a long time Miss O.

TY for stopping by today my friend.

I guess that is you in the photo???

#Stormy looking there in the 5 days a year you guys do not get rained on LOL

Ahh, I cheated this photo was taken by me the other week in France- though I'm pretty sold on the idea of a hammock in the UK. We have no trees strong enough in my garden, so I'd need to buy a frame too.

If you have a fence or anything solid and up high enough, you can stick a flagpole in the ground like I did the right distance apart, pour a concrete footing in, below frost line (4' down or more) and put one in, that is what I did.

This pole can also be cross braced off the other direction (also what I did)

and said pole can be used for other things too, laundry line, etc etc... even flying flags LOL

I recommend in your area, looking at either DD Hammocks or SnugPak --- both are UK based, both are HIGH quality. The one you hung out in there is not the type you want to attempt long term sleep in. Those wooden cross bars at the "gathered" end -- are actually not what you want.

Hammock Life is the best life Miss O!!! So much to learn and so many options and so comfortable.

I will check them out, for the 5 days of the year we get sunshine 😉
