Why Kindness Is A Contagious Superpower

If you've been following my blog, you know that I'm a freshman in college and that I recently made a post about it sharing what I learned about life from my first day. In the article, I also shared how I gave my seat to a lady in a city bus on my way back home, for the simple reason being that I felt like helping someone out.

Well, I did the same today for an old man, and something amazing happened right after I gave him my seat. Just in a few moments, other people too started giving their seats to people who needed it more. The kindness showed by a random guy on a city bus, caused a chain reaction and multiplied significantly.

Instantly, I started feeling good about myself knowing that I've made the world a slightly better place. This made me think, "What if I do this everyday? What if everyone does this everyday?" The thing about kindness is, it's contagious. It spreads like a wildfire. Once you see people helping out other people, you can't resist but do the same.

It's human nature to want to develop relationships, and that's why kindness and compassion are your greatest tools for making the world a better place. It's like a cheat code for changing your social environment without any serious efforts. The best part is, it works almost always.

Kindness As A Superpower

If you look at it this way, kindness is like a superpower. You're able to make change around you without having to give or lose anything up. It's the kinda superpower that people know they have, but don't use that often.

Let me remind you that any major change starts from just one person. If no one else is practicing their superpower, you should be the first one to make a lead. Soon after you do, others will follow. Just like how it happened with me.

I know it might not sound like a serious thing right now, but if you think on a big scale, the more people do this, the better it is for our society as a whole. More importantly, it drives people into becoming more empathetic and forgiving.

If done on a big enough scale, it can even give birth to a new culture based on empathy, gratitude and overall politeness between people. It can shift mentalities and behaviors in an instant.

For example, if there's a society that thrives off of kindness, then a rude person would be afraid to spread his hatred because then he won't be accepted as an active part of the community and wouldn't be given the social benefits that come along with it. So, his only option would be to change his attitude. This way, we have created a better human.

A More Connected World

Like I said, it's human nature to want to develop relationships with people, and if we were somehow able to develop a society that thrives off of kindness, then we would simultaneously create a world where people are more emotionally connected with each other and would be willing to selflessly serve others.

The idea behind it is simple. We remember people who are nice to us and have helped us in some way or the other in the past. With that same psychology, people would want to connect with those who have been kind to them.

The chain reaction of kindness is powerful, yet underrated. It's sad how all of us have the ability to make the world a happier place, but still only a few of us actually use that ability. But as long as we keep trying, there's hope. After all, as Gandhi once said,

If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him.

Thanks for this cool write-up. Apart from the impact kindness has on other people's life, it will also have possitive effect on the kind person in future because the people he has helped will also willingly help him in times of need.

Yup. It's all about how willing you are to help others :)

Exactly, but if everyone thinks about what the help they render may become in future, we will all choose to help others even if it is not convenient.
