AK Tiny Home Build (Part 8)- Pallet Wood Ceiling

Pallet wood is the in thing... there are websites, books, pdf's and thousands of DIY videos dedicated to pallet wood. I know why there is hype... its free!!!

Nothing in life is free... everything comes with a price. At least I think I've heard that somewhere. That is true with pallets or any kind of reclaimed material. The price is your time and effort.

This was the beginning of what is going to be a life long love for pallet wood. Spending days taking apart pallets, prying, cutting, hammering and pulling nails, I had multiple piles. I didn't have much appreciation for these piles of worn out looking wood. ....until I put my first piece through the wood planer.

Why would anyone burn pallets?! Pallets are free treasure waiting for polishing. There are so many ways to use pallet wood, I hope to share more ideas in future posts.

As you can probably tell we like to "Woo-hoo" around these parts. So we are hoping some of the woo-hoo gets on you..Woo-Hoo!

That looks great! While we do have some salvaged cedar in our tiny home that I planed down, my concern with planing pallet wood was wrecking the blades if nails or staples were missed or if there was grit on it. Did you have any issues with this? Did you use duller blades to begin with so it wouldn't matter as much?

Thanks! Yes we did have some issues. :) We did try to clean and pull all nails and staples...but you can't get it all. Yes, after the first blades were dull and nicked they became the forever first cut blades for pallet wood. As you well know blades are not cheap...
