Storms Stole The Sand

in #lessbeach5 years ago (edited)

So i'm going to open this post with the same image as one I took about a week ago, and then show you what's changed...

Those footsteps you see were recorded by @actifit 9 days ago on one of my alternate accounts. The theory is that I didn't get 11500 followers for posting 'how many steps did you do today' posts, and so those updates will be appearing on @zapncrap.

I'm glad I took some recent images of the beach though, as just over a week ago I could walk along the shore, feet on wet sand, for pretty much the whole length of the coast.

Today though......

What's with the rocks though, this was all sand last week...

IMG_1137.JPG

And what is this?! On my sandy beach.... Is this a basic weight-lifting zone?

You've changed. I don't like you as much any more.

I noticed a digger and a pile of sand, but i'm thinking they are going to need a slightly bigger pile of sand to replace what the sea took away over the past week. Apparently a ship will arrive with sand, or at least with the capability to suck sand up from under the water close to the shore, and then dump it on the rocks - that are currently looking rather naked, and uncomfortable.

I'm not a fan of naked and uncomfortable, just in case you wish to know.

One more 'where the F' did my sandy beach go...

I have been duped! Get me out of here!

So that is my new content for you today, the case of the disappearing beach. There are a good number of tourists here already, and due to the lack of beach and the shite weather the bars are doing really well. I shall be attending one later, for a certain Manchester derby.

Alright cool have a nice day/night!

Asher

The derby was here the talk of the night fun living in a man’s house , I made the popcorn 🍿
The sand might wash up again from the sea but if the retraction off the sand and the weather made the bars happy that’s great to in the pre season. Here we prepare for famous kings day IN THE RAIN !

Ahhhhhhh HATCHI i love that mooie thanx popcornexpress

And we got a little baby giraffe in our zoo in Rotterdam you are spot on !!

Just shows you what a bit of make up can do. You would never have guessed that was what the beach would normally look like. Maybe I won't dive around playing beach volleyball anymore and doing back flips as you never know what you could be landing on. If you believe that you will believe anything and maybe the Red Devils have a chance tonight, just maybe. Derbies are like a cup tie so anything is possible and think it could be a draw.

I'd really like to see some @dtube back-flips from yourself :)

The blues will romp home this evening - the reds have not had a shot on target in over 3 hours!

That is why it could be a good game as no one knows what could happen. Guaranteed red card tonight for a Man City player.

Easy win 😝

Interesting post @abh12345. Reminds me of the one time my beloved and I made it to Hawaii. Kauai to be exact.

The good news is we spent a week on one of the most beautiful islands on the planet. The bad news is, in our unfortunate timing, we arrived a year after one of the worst storms in their history. Which took a lot of their beaches "out to sea" ...

And unlike what you are indicating here, I don't think the sand on the Kauai beaches was coming back. At least very easily. The depth of water just off the coast was pretty deep, as I recall.

Well, bummer the timing of the tourists arriving there also appears to have been a little off ...

Thanks for dropping by and sharing that tale. It sounds like a far worse situation with little chance of recovering the lost sand.

I heard last night that a number of beaches on this side of the island have suffered, and that it has happened before.

The timing is not great, but Mother Nature isn't concerned about the tourist season 😊

Ha ha, the mysterious case of the missing beach 🧐

That's mad that the storm took that much sand away. I wonder if it was a man made beach in the first place?

I'm the same as you with my share2steem content which outlines my twitter hustle. It's currently being posted on @lfie28 as I thought it wasn't right to post that short form content on what I've built up into a decent long form blog.

P.s. good luck on the Derby. Ur man u fan right? Anyway, I'm routing for Man United for the first time in my life 🤣😉

I wonder if it was a man made beach in the first place?

I'm thinking the same, although no-one has ever told me so.

Followed @lfie28 - not life28?

Yeah, I'm a red. Shocking this past month. Come on the blues!

Followed @lfie28 - not life28?

Yeah, I think life28 was taken. I can't remember why I chose lfie28, I made that account ages ago with an idea of using it for a project but it fell through so it ended up as one of my alt accounts.

Nah m8, stick with the reds! Man city need a stomping 🙂 I was surprised when Everton gave you a thrashing, I'm just hoping it has got Man United mad as hell and they channel that against city 😂

A fairly straightforward victory for the blues. Man U in trouble!

Wow! Nature is a mysterious thing. I guess the ocean wanted her sand back. ;) Hope they get the coast line nice and soft for walking again. Still a pretty picture. I can almost hear the sound of the waves.

I think the sand wasn't here in the first place, or at least not as much as their was. The cove, or 'cala' is normally like a bath - still with hardly any current or wave action whatsoever. That changed last week, and so did the shoreline. Strange!

Thanks for visiting :D

Shame to see that.

I absolutely love living right near the water. Well I am several minutes away but one day...I will be able to listen to the waves crashing. It's definitely a dream of mine.

Don't get too hammered tonight at the pub.

One day, I hope you get to hear those waves whilst you munch on your Frosties.

I had a few, my team were comfortably beaten and so I took revenge on the Pool table 😁

ahhhh I knwo this drill from the Caribbean days. Isn't it that the tide is different currently because of the winds and the water is pulling the sand away? Big chance that over the next couple of weeks all of a sudden it mysteriously is also there again

The water did look totally different, it was strange and like I was visiting another place. I don't think the waves will bring the sand back - more likely to take the rest?!

I wouldnt worry to much about it...wait a couple weeks for the tide to change and it will be fine again (or until the bulldozers with sand come, also good :D)

I will get over it, or move location in disgust :D

Did you read any news from Poland yesterday? They got Sand storm over there.. Blame it to See Genie, Valnamor, Alric and his companions! Mystery Solved 😉

Hmmm, we lose the sand here and then there is a sand storm in Poland... mistery solved 😁

That's pretty crazy, are they really bringing in a ship to pump it all back out? Surely that would happen naturally, eventually!

Enjoy the football.

Second person to say that but I think much of the sand was brought here by man and so the water will only take?

Shocking footy, pool table glory though 😁

We've got the opposite thing going on here, the pebbles are disappearing into the sea and the sand is being revealed. 😂

That would be OK but it's only the seaside end of the beach so there's a sort of 20 foot drop off in the middle of the beach now.

Soon they will bring in the JCBs. Always fun to watch when in need of so entertainment. 😊

More sand and fewer pebbles sounds good! Is the water slowly claiming the land where you are?

Is the water slowly claiming the land where you are?

No. Not here. There's too much city going on. It has had groynes for ages, probably since the Prince came to take the waters" so it's been protected.

Further along the coast is a completely different story though. Places like Burling Gap have changed dramatically in the time we've lived here. The cafe we used to go to had to be demolished and there used to be about 20 feet of cliff in front of it.

Also, 3 of the coast guards cottages have gone.

The National Trust took it over and expected to have it for about 6 years but now they're saying they will be lucky if it lasts 2.

It's well worth a visit as they have a load of interesting photos and stuff.

We've also gots loads of photos of us there on land that it is now more.
