Landscapephotography at Thingvellir

An here is my entry for today's landscapephotography hosted by @Juliank: Thingvellir!

Thingvellir is a national park in Iceland, east of Reikjavick. Apart from its stunning beauty, it also has a huge historical value. This was the place where the chiefs of the ancient clans gathered and discussed the laws and future of the country. The name of the park can be translated as "the fields of parliament", as Thingevelir can probably be considered as the oldest parliament in history!

Here is also where two major tectonic plates can be seen! A part of Iceland lies on the Eurasia tectonic plate, and the other part lies on the North America one. And only in Iceland that separation, called the mid-atlantic ridge, can be seen above water, and Thingvellir is probably one of the best places on the island to contemplate this.

I visited during winter, and despite the freezing cold, and the shorter days... the fields covered in snow make this place even more beautiful.
