3D Printing Journey Step 2

in #joel7 years ago

So, I've recently printed two copies of a minimalist AR-15 buttstock - link in footnotes - while playing around with the sizing and position of the model on the print deck.

The first was printed at 90% size of the original model's sizing, which was too small to interact properly with the buffer tube. It was printed at the lowest quality and robustness to save on PLA, however, I was over confident when printing the second model.

At 100% of the model sizing, the second buttstock was printed at highest quality and wall thickness, estimated to take 44 hours to finish. After messing up the print by testing the buffer tube slot in the middle of the print and finding out that the buffer tube slot was too large, I aborted the process.

Comparison picture added to show 10% difference in size.

I am now testing out 95% sizing for the buttstock with minimal PLA usage, which will take approximately two and a half hours. Pictures will be posted later upon print completion.
