The black triangle marks the location of what is known as the "seat of William Shatner", which is the seat with the best view of the wing of the plane. It is the best window from which to inspect the wing for ice or other problems. The reference to the actor William Shatner has to do with the episode Nightmare at 20,000 Feet of the Twilight Zone series that aired for the first time on October 11, 1963. In that episode, the character of Shatner sees a gremlin in the wing of the plane in which he travels.
