Minority Report Deception
This is one of those things that make me feel so helpless... Recently a couple of well known YouTubers got banned from their Patreon accounts, denying them any more crowdfunding through the popular service.

source: YouTube
What makes me feel so helpless here is the fact that this is a drama on several levels, and I see fights going on on each of the separate levels and no one concentrating on the overarching and only real threat to our freedoms. Divide and conquer proves to be useful once again because the majority of the sheep are effortlessly set up against other sheep instead of the ones who are setting them up against each other. It makes me want to scream "have you all gone mad!!??!?"
Okay, I'll try to stay somewhat coherent and start with a short historical overview of events. YouTube and Facebook are for some time now under constant fire because of their influence on the online public platforms, from Facebook being blamed for Trump's election, to YouTube being rightfully criticized about kicking Alex Jones from their platform, next to numerous and regular reports of YouTube channels being demonetized. In the meanwhile the mainstream media campaigns against the dangers of "fake news" brought by non-reporters and the kid next door who now are suddenly allowed to bring their uninformed perspective on news events. Pizza gate, several public shooting events and more questionable news-items are being dissected by amateur YouTubers, much to the dismay of the defenders of the status quo. So they fight back; Google and Facebook are virtually monopolists and among them are capable of steering the public debate to a large degree by abusing their powers.
Therefore Patreon was like a gift from heaven; YouTube could now demonetize all they wanted because content creators now had an alternative way to generate income through crowdfunding. From as little as one dollar per month anyone can support their favorite online content creator, thereby releasing them from the financial leash YouTube had on them. Now this save haven is gone to, and it is done in a way that speaks volumes with regards to how little they care by now what the public's reaction will be. The Sargon of Akkad ban in particular raised many angry eyebrows, because he's seen as a free speech advocate, but not especially left or right winged. And here's where things start to get murky...
Famed Game Dev to Leftists "PLEASE wake up You are evil"
Sargon woke up one morning to find his Patreon account deleted. He was banned because he used "offensive slurs" in an interview on someone else's channel, ten months ago, and this was against Patreon's terms of service. When Sargon inquired further because he was rightfully confused about being held responsible for statements made on a whole other channel, he got this response from Patreon's representative: "My team monitors our platform and the online presence of our creators to make sure that their content is within our Community Guidelines." This would even make Orwell turn in his grave, I'm sure.
Now, Sargon did use inappropriate language, but totally appropriate when left within context; he was basically racially discriminating fascists, which is actually impossible to do. Unfortunately this is where the sheep lose focus while a new level is introduced in the discussion. Because now it's the fault of the far left. What started as a fight against big international tech companies and for free speech, is now suddenly being framed as a fight between the far left and reasonable people... Now it's suddenly a discussion about SJW like political correctness against die hard free speech defenders. Now it's that the tech mega corporations are implementing a political agenda and the sheep on the left are too blind to see they're being used, as opposed to the sheep in the center and on the right who see it all happening... This is how what should be a united front suffers it's first fracture.
Quickly this discussion escalates into the notion that it's all a conspiracy of left wing politics to prevent Trump being re-elected in the 2020 race. Trump supporters are the victims now of leftist political activists who report them to the authorities at YouTube and Patreon to get their accounts closed. You know, hit them where it hurts, in their wallets. Oh and it's those feminazi's to, because it was that that awful Anita Sarkeesian man-hater who got Sargon banned in an earlier event at the 2017 VidCon convention. So it's men against women. Oh wait, it was a racial slur with the N-word leveled against white supremacist neo-nazi's so it must be race against race now... And before you know, all the sheep of different colors, genders, religious affinities, political convictions, everybody is blaming everybody else. But especially the far left politics against Trump, is what's left from the somewhat united front against the stealing of our basic rights.
Will Patreon Ban This Film? With Sargon of Akkad
And that was the wrong fight to begin with. This is what makes me so mad. The real enemies in this particular battle in the overarching war for our freedoms, are PayPal, Visa and MasterCard, Patreon's financial partners. Or should I say rulers? Here's a telling snippet of a conversation between YouTuber Matt Christiansen and Patreon's Jacqueline Hart:
Jacqueline: The problem is is patreon takes payments. And while we are obviously supportive of the first amendment, there are other things we have to consider. Our mission is to fund our creative class. In order to accomplish that mission we have to build a community of creators that are comfortable sharing a platform, and if we allow certain types of speech that some people would call free speech, then only creators that use patreon that don't mind their branding associated with that kind of speech would be those who use patreon and we fail at our mission. But secondly as a membership platform, payment processing is one of the core value propositions that we have. Payment processing depends on our ability to use the global payment network, and they have rules for what they will process.
Matt: Are you telling me that this was Patreon's decision then, or someone pressured you into this?
Jacqueline: No - this was entirely Patreon's decision.
Matt: Well then I don't understand passing the buck off to somebody else.
Jacqueline: No, I'm not passing the buck off. The thing is we have guidelines, but I'm trying to explain, #1 it is our mission to fund the creative class and obviously some people may not want to be associated.
Matt: Well if it's your mission, then payment processors are irrelevant. It's your mission. That's what you're pursuing.
Jacqueline: We're not visa and mastercard ourselves - we can't just make the rules. That's what I'm saying - there is an extra layer there.
And there you have it. The conversation goes on, and you can watch and listen to it in the video at the end, to show that according to Patreon a lot of content creators adjust their speech after a warning from them, and to show that Patreon is biased toward the far left when reviewing and banning creators.
The Patreon Debacle: There’s More Going on Here
Do you see how this works? The real enemy are the banks and their stupendously rich foot-soldiers in the tech industry (among other industries), the ones that rule the politicians they get the sheep to fight over. This is the reason why the far left is accused of demonizing profits by the far right, who in turn think it's okay to become stupendously rich over the backs of those less fortunate. The sheep are being played once again like a piano by the money elite, clawing at each other instead of directing their anger where it belongs. Don't believe for a second that the Trump supporter is your enemy, or that the far left politically correct SJW feminazi is your enemy. This is all part of the veil that's being pulled over our eyes, to keep us fighting each other, to divide and conquer.
This is about the Minority Report, that old science fiction movie with Tom Cruise where the thought-police catches criminals before committing a crime. The deception is that our thought-police, executed by the online tech companies, is fighting on one side of a political divide, forcing the other side to retaliate. Don't fall for the deception and keep focused on the thought police itself, and they are the banks and the largest multinationals in all industries. So please stop that left-right bullshit right now and see that they are both sides of the same monster, and fight the monster. Going crypto is a good first step, and you're all welcome here ;-)
To make matters even worse, even the alternative for Patreon, Subscribestar, has succumbed to the money power. After the banning of Sargon a lot of Patreon's members fled to this alternative, only to find that the payment processors cut the ties with that company after a few "questionable" content creators went there. Please keep in mind what we're up against. It's not left against right. It's not white against black. It's not women against men nor gay against straight, young against old... This "culture war" is just like any other war propagandized by the real rulers, like the "war against drugs", the "war against terrorism", the "war against crime". Don't fall for it.
MasterCard Is The Final Boss
Of course, this post wouldn't be complete without Sargon's own reaction to all of this:

hate preachers are people i probably wont lose sleep over tbh
I appreciate that and understand the feeling; I don't like what most hardline libertarians have to say, or what someone like Alex Jones has to say. And hate speech is something to always fight against... However, there are no absolutes and it's easy to grant free speech to those we agree with. If I disagree with you, that should not be a reason to not let you say what you want to say. To be extreme for a second, even the call to violence, rightly forbidden by most laws, could be debated, as it's the choice of the listeners to accept or refuse the message. If you tell me to hit someone, are you then to blame for the physical harm done? Even if the government tells you to go to another country to kill people you don't know, and given that you have a choice to go or not go in a free and open society, who is to blame for the war? These are questions not easily answered and that should be discussed, which is only possible if we grant everybody the freedom to say their piece...
As always, thanks so much for the heartfelt response @veryspider 😍 💜
privately run businesses are not public spaces and are not beholden to cater to views they do not agree with. that is their right to free speech, also.
free speech runs both ways. the banning of someone using your privately run platform is also a form of free speech.
of course those people are welcomed to make their own websites or spout their spiels out in public spaces
but it's a bit hypocritical to say that someone MUST be allowed to express their views on Patreon but Patreon is not allowed to express theirs. Not all communication is text-based. Saying someone MUST be given a space on patreon is infringing on Patreon's rights to free speech. they are, too, sending a message out with their policies and actions.
Agreed, @veryspider, and that's exactly why it's never an easy question to answer. That's why I point the vinger at PayPal and Stripe, who have a virtual monopoly on the online financial transactions market, together worth more than 80%. They effectively are the public space, at which point different rules apply. Patreon wouldn't have banned Sargon on their own, or that's what I believe at least. Also, in the specific case of Sargon vs Patreon, Sargon got banned for expressions made on another channel, not even his own, and Patreon's community guidelines speak of content on patreon. Like I said, it's not an easy subject, but I do believe there's no valid reason for Patreon to ban anyone based on things they said on another YouTube channel. And in fact they monitor all online activities, as admitted in their response to Sargon... In my opinion that's a problem of Orwellian proportions.
Well, that's just my two cents of course 😉
I dont think we can just re-classify 'public spaces' definition just cuz there are monopolies. I dont like monopolies either, but just cuz we're handwringing the definition in our heads doesn't make it true. Factually, they are privately run businesses. Factually, they are not public spaces as defined by current society's standards.
Capitalism is broken, but if we start to keep re-defining words so that our arguments make sense, we'll end up at a strange place.
Let's not make this a discussion about definitions. Or re-definitions for that matter; the term "hate preachers" for some includes Sargon, for others not so much. Again, I mostly disagree with this gentleman, but that should come as no surprise and should not influence this particular discussion at all. The factual situation is that certain monopolists have abused their power to try to shut up people they politically don't agree with. We can agree or disagree that this is a good thing or not. And yes, that's one of the many ways in which capitalism is broken... but that's a whole other discussion 😋 😎
Of course, for their listeners, they are not 'hate preachers' That's just my personal take. And I do not dispute that people can be seen in myriad other valid ways.
For one, I usually just ignore people I don't agree with... They spout blahblah, I walk away. I think they are not owed my time. .... I dont think that's infringing on their 'free speech'.
Others can engage, of course. No skin off my bones~
Factually, people in power has always abused their powers to shut up people without power. Monopolists, oligarchies, supremacists, military mights, etc.
This is not particularly good but it has been true for a very long time.
Society needs to change.
Do you have any idea how wise you are? I'm so glad you take the time to bring me back down to earth on such a difficult subject... You're absolutely right and I love your perspective, without which mine is worth nothing at all. 😍
The thing is, that capitalist governments which have laws to protect free speech, simply outsource the censorship to private industries... This was the Crux of the arguments against the removal of Net-Neutrality...
Now that it is gone, and given the recent developments in FB, Tumblr, YouTube, and now patreon, plus themanner in which StreamStar ( or whatever it's called) we can literally -watch- the sanitization of the internet taking place. This must be (rather futily) resisted as much as possible... Because every hurdle thrown in their way helps, at least until we develop a different method of - connection-...
All the cryptofreedom in the world isn't going to do a damn bit of good if the carriers decide to "throttle" aka Blacklist Steemit, Minds and other spaces..
Sorry, this became a rant. Gonna haveta post it, but what else is new, lol..

It is a very broken system :(
Power begets power.
Ranting is sometimes a good way to vent out some frustration!

I've been keeping up with this myself, though I'm a little behind the times. I prefer it that way though, to see how/where the dust settles rather than get caught up in the moment. Still learning about the whole thing. However, Karen Straughan aka girlwriteswhat has penned a letter to Senator Ted Cruz (shudder) as he was once involved with the Federal Trade Commission, asking him to determine how anti-trust legislation would reflect upon this situation. I might have to follow suit.
Politics = Strange Bedfellows.
Thanks so much @yestermorrow... This is just the beginning; Jordan Peterson, Dave Rubin, Sam Harris and a whole lot more YouTubers have left, or are preparing to leave Patreon... To Be Continued... 😋 😎
Happy new year!
We have crypto currencies and a censor free blockchain here on STEEM. When are these aledged ALT-Media jockies ready to stop sucking the corporation's tit? Check those who are here already. Those are the folks you should be listening. Your post, here, is preaching to the choir. Go tell them out there about crypto and the power of STEEM.
Fook the Corporations and STEEM On!!!
Thank you for this @novacadian, I really appreciate it :-) And yes, this is a case of preaching to the choir for a good part (the part about crypto), but not completely (the part about the libertarians <> SJW PC). And I did write an open invitation, a letter to Alex Jones to come join us here... Maybe I'll write a couple more if I find the time to do so.
Just knowing an email address is enough to send an account invite from steeminvite.com. If the invitation is not excepted in the time limit you set during the invitation creation, then the invite (and any delegation you assigned) would be released again.
Good to know. Also, I think most of the right-wingers are over on minds. They have different terms for RC and stuff, and seem to rely over much on getting micro transactions wedged in, from what I've seen so far. Also, it's an astoundingly hateful space, again, just from what I've seen.
I'm trying to onboard some folks, though. Lol, Alex Jones on steem would be... Well, Alex Jones on Steem. 😂😂😂

Yeah, AJ on the steem blockchain would be a cool statement if nothing more. 😎
Solid.
