1999 Anti PC Rant

in #informationwar6 years ago

Politically Correct Language, or political correctness, is the subject of many heated debates, online and in real life. Unfortunately many of these discussions sooner rather than later focus on the age old left-right divide that's still being used to weaken the power of the people.

This is not a new debate, and has been raging for at leas 20 years now, if not longer. Without choosing any particular political side here, I think it's important to point out the dangers that lie within the manipulation of a tool as powerful as language. Politically correct language is described as follows:

The term political correctness (adjectivally: politically correct; commonly abbreviated PC) is used to describe language, policies, or measures that are intended to avoid offense or disadvantage to members of particular groups in society. Since the late 1980s, the term has come to refer to avoiding language or behavior that can be seen as excluding, marginalizing, or insulting groups of people considered disadvantaged or discriminated against, especially groups defined by sex or race.

In general I have no problem with addressing people the way they want to be addressed when I'm able to, that in my mind is just common sense, but is done on an individual basis. Where it gets uncomfortable is when politics and media start labeling certain groups in order to push forward some sort of political agenda. The irony is that this excessive labeling is done in the name of equality, when in fact all it does is divide people up in easily identifiable groups who are then set up against each other because they are being treated differently by politicians and media alike. And all hell breaks loose when we, the people, are stupid enough to follow the example set by the guardians of the status quo.

"Is Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico from Star Wars: The Last Jedi) Chinese or Korean? I don't know, but that Asian looking girl is cast to help sell the movie in China and she ruins the movie with a ridiculous plot-line and bad acting. That's what you get when you place politics before simply making a good film." This argument comes up over and over again in the discussions among the split Star Wars fandom; funny thing is she's actually an American, born in America, with Vietnamese parents. And we see this happen a lot lately; Ghostbusters, Oceans 11, Doctor Who, Star Trek and Star Wars.

Don't get me wrong: I have nothing against strong female role-models, but I'd rather they concentrate on making good movies and telling good stories than on pushing a political agenda. It's actually the politically incorrect thing to do and identity politics sure as hell don't help the agenda's of the ones being labeled. Like I said before, the immediate and most obvious effect is the dividing of the people in easily manageable groups that are easily set up against each other. Language is labeling stuff. Politically correct language is labeling stuff with words chosen by your rulers.Your rulers like to divide and rule.

Did you know that the DOD, the Department Of Defense, used to be the DOW, the Department of Warfare? "War" was deemed too honest, too directly describing the department's true task of planning and executing war abroad. "Defense" is much better for consensus, especially when you can also use language to demonize the abroad you want to attack. The War for the Oil of the Middle East is too direct and limits options, better call it a War on Terrorism, which can be used to wage war almost anywhere, even in your own country.

Politically correctness is not owned or invented by the (far) left but rather a strategy used for a long long time now by the financial power elite to mask or highlight topics with euphemisms or hype, in order to push forward their agenda. Thinking about this post, I was reminded of the work of George Carlin, and how much we miss him. In the video linked below is his 1999 speech at the National Press Club; he masterfully explains how language and labeling is used by politicians and how they transform certain words in a way their original meaning gets lost completely. He was a real genius with words and super funny, so enjoy!
