Some facts about the maligned AR-15 Rifle!

in #informationwar5 years ago (edited)

The design of the AR 15 allows the end user to build a multitude of different firearms. This is done by just changing the upper receiver to the new calibre. Several of the different Calibre options use the same magazines, and only require a different calibre of ammunition to be loaded, to match the new upper receiver unit

One lower can be use with several uppers to make different rifles, a lot of these options even share the same Bolt Carrier Group (BCG). Common choices are .223, 5.56, 6.5 grendal, and 300 blackout.

Here is a basic lower unit. This is the registered portion of of the AR rifle. It can be converted in the field very quickly. You will also see that this is where the Magazine used to hold ammunition connects to the AR Platform Design.

The pins that are in the lower receiver, that hold the upper receiver on, are shown here:

This platform also does a lot of Pistol Rounds including; .22 LR, 9mm, 45 ACP, and .458 SOCOM. It is a very versatile design, that can be built many ways. Pistol uppers are quite common.

This is a 5.56 upper unit and you can see the two holes at the top of the picture that match the two retainer pins in the lower receiver. it also contains the Bolt Carrier Group (BCG) and the forward assist with the bolt used to cock the Rifle. This piece is Calibre specific, and it is the part changed to switch the Calibre. This portion is NOT registered, and you can mail order this piece, because it is simply a part, and not a Firearm.

The AR-10 is a very similar design that handles a longer round. It is primarily in 308, but will also handle a longer 6.5 Creedmoor, and the new 6.8mm which shows major promise for the future of this platform. The AR-10 assemblies look like the AR-15 assemblies, just slightly longer where the Magazine attaches.

Quote of the day: "AR-15s are like LEGOs for grownups." -Anonymous

When you have the finished Rifle, you have the means to defend yourself; but you still need a Plan! on how to defend you and yours! Here is the simplest plan I have ever seen:

“Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.”

General James N. Mattis

The single best use for an AR-15, is not self defense (with the .223, or the 5.56mm round is way too small); but it is VERY good for Pissing off liberals! For this alone, everyone should have at least a dozen, ROFLOL! It is a good kids training rifle, and good for target practice, as the ammunition is lower cost than heavy rifles. It is a good learning tool, and shooting learned on an AR, transfers well, directly to heavier weapons.

Here is an angle on the AR-15 that many people have not considered. In the unconscionable attacks on innocent people by those feeling they have the right to harm others...the AR-115 platform saved lives. The base round used is a 22 calibre 55 grain pill. If these Evil people had used a Firearm with a decent round (ballistically speaking), we would have lost a lot more good people! The AR-15 round is so light that it wounds more often than kills; so if they manage to ban this firearm, more innocent lives will be lost, for certain!

Making laws, in ignorance, will always have misunderstood consequences; and the actual results are usually very bad!

Yes. 7.62mm NATO Standard has a lot more stopping power. It’s what I trained with in the Australian Army. But rifles for this caliber are much heavier to carry around all day.

Yes, I have several. I have hunted with 308, but NEVER with .223! My favorite for home defense is an M14 in 308! If our troops have to stop a car bomb at a checkpoint, the M-16 could never do the job; but am M-14 would take out the engine block! This platform in AR-10 will chamber 308 (7.62 x 51 NATO)

The 7,62 x 51 is a good solid combat round! One hit will do the job but the 5.56 / .223 is a sadly underpowered round, requiring multiple hits to do any real damage!

Most of the time I hunt with a 300 Win Mag, not exactly a .223, LOL!

Yes, that was the general opinion in the Australian Army when I served over 20 years ago. But they changed to 5.56 for the AusStyer

Sad to see! No power there, at least the Russians made the same mistake with the 5.45....

They are Both junk rounds!

The best battle rifle I hav eever had my hands on was an Mi Garand in 30-06. When you pull the trigger, it hardly looses sight picture! Bump and right back on target...NASTY rifle! Accurate, and hits like a truck!

The M-14 is close, but time on target is a little less.

5.56 is designed to win wars, not battles. Wounding soldiers is more damaging to the enemy in war than killing them. It takes more resources to deal with wounded in a battlefield situation than dead ones, since dead ones can just be ignored until battle is over, and require no medical care thereafter.

I have heard that argument before, but it is based on our marals. When those being shot are promised heaven if they die in battle, theydo not respond the way we do to wounded.

Also in the book Black Hawk Down, a special forces Soldier shot a woman multiple times who had decided to recover an RPG. He undoubthely killed her, but she was able to recover that RPG, and bring it back, intact. It was fired on our guys shortly there after. He also said that if he had used an M14, one hit would have stopped her, and one more could have exploded that RPG.

There is one more argument used in favor of the M-16. The rounds are much lighter, so they can carry more. This, the military neutralized, with the three round burst setting, that uses three times the ammo. That they found necessary, because one does so little damage....

We have killed many of our soldiers by underarming them, IMHO. I would like to see the 6.8mm platform adopted to go forward. Good middle ground, ballistically, velocity, and bullet weight wise.

Be safe!

All else being what it is, I'd rather use a man-stopping round myself. I note the purposes of individual soldiers are not 100% syonymous with the purposes of the army they fight in, and that is different than the purposes of the nation they fight for.

Agreed, I prefer a man stopper myself! I carry a 9mm every day, but I prefer a 45 ACP. Lot easier to carry the 9mm every day.

300 blackout is just really 3030 ballistics

But semi auto. And 450 bushmaster 458 and 500... Big lead...

Yes, but I have hunted with a 30-30, and I will NEVER hunt with the .223.

There is a lot to be said about throwing a big chunk of lead downrange! My favorite pistol is a 45 ACP....

yeah good luck with that.

It is easy, all I have to do is block Texans, ROFLOL!

yeah good luck with that too!

Easy, we just cut the phone line crossing Lake Texoma....

haha! I guess it's a dumb question to ask if you've been there. I haven't been. I heard that Blake Shelton had a house on the lake.

Been there, done that. It is a very nice lake, and a good buffer, ROFLOL!

Be sure to prepare!
