Help Steem? What Can Little Old Me Do? "IFC S1 R40 entry"

in #ifc6 years ago

So this is it. The final round of the #InformationFindingChannel's IFC contest is upon us and this marks the end of Season 1. I am both saddened and relieved at the same time. Saddened because the contests have challenged my skills and provided a lot of fun as well. Relieved because it will be nice to take a small breather between seasons and get my training on for Season 2.

The reason that my wife @juliabreheny and I joined Steemit.com is that we have both been planning on creating an online income as bloggers to assist us in funding our full time travel and supplementing our workamping and vacation rental income. We watched several videos on Youtube about Steemit and thought it would be the perfect place to start. It has turned out to be so much more than either of us expected. After my first post on Steemit I received a comment from @warpedpoetic that I should sign up for Discord and connect with some Steemians. So I did, and my whole online world changed. I've met some great people on here and was quickly taught some basics by @jan23com.

I found the InformationFindingChannel (created by @apolymask) within my first few days on Discord and have been entering the IFC contests ever since. I believe my first entry was about round 31. Basically, I've been hooked ever since.

Forgive me though, for I digress but felt it would be a helpful lead in to my Round 40 entry. For this last entry we have been asked to write a post on how we could help or improve Steem. For details on this round check out the IFC S1 R40 - Help Steem.

When I first read the post for the round all I could think was "How the hell can I help Steem?" I may not be brand spanking new but I still have an understanding of this platform bordering on nil. If I could change any one thing on Steemit it would be to limit the amount of vote gaming that happens on this platform. I have seen several examples of platform gaming and I feel it detracts from the overall experience and takes away potential rewards for some of the high quality content creators. For my part I am going to continue to work on honing my craft, dedicate myself to creating high quality content and help others grow organically on the Steemit platform.

My sincere thanks go to @apolymask for creating this awesome contest and the wonderful people I've met and connected with in the #InformationFindingChannel.

Great job Joey. I am glad that you have found such an awesome creative outlet. I won’t take any credit since my relentless endeavors of stalking YouTube and Facebook groups led us to Steemit!

If he forgot to tell you about @dustsweeper, you really need to look at that. Money well spent, but not really spent, just put in a bank to sweep up the rewards from all those thrown away votes. You own private little vote rescue squad.

He didn’t tell me so I will check it out. Thank you! If the people in the world were more like the Steemit community, it would be a better place.

Not only Steemit but our current awesome lifestyle.

You should take the wife out to the orchard and show her the bee hive

He needs to take me out somewhere as I think it has been a few years since I have been on a date.

Where’s the orchard @jbreheny? I love everything nature.

Ops my bad,
deletes his above comment and walks away whistling innocently.

No worries. I’m always in trouble anyway.

Lol, we’re both struggling today connect online regularly. I’ll get her to the Hive one of these days.

A nice post, glad to of had you around to help keep us on our toes and thinking. Vote gaming is a big problem, but I think the new user dust vote issue is really what holds a lot of people back.

The best advice I’ve heard on here (and from several people) is to just be consistent and don’t get discouraged. I’m hoping to be able to be active in other channels within the InformationFindingChannels Discord server. There’s more to it and I think the surface has just been scratched.

I am glad I was of help to you in your steemit journey @jbreheny.

Vote gaming is something that needs some active attention. Too much has been said about it and I am yet to see evidence of action. I want to believe something is being done about it.

I wish you all the best in this round.

I want to believe it as well. Too busy trying to eke out my own little piece.

Nicework jbreheny! Glad to have you with us on this adventure. :) I've enjoyed your contributions and your presence, you seem like a good guy.
The bidbot issue does seem to be a problem, too much lousy content gets to the top while good stuff isn't seen.. But how to solve that? Isn't that what often happens in the regular physical world economy as well?
To me I see bidbots sort of like as the signs you see or billboards to advertise.. I know it's not quite the same, but it's essentially advertising. So.. How to deal with that in a free system? I dunno.. The only thing I can think of is education and to try to teach people to care more and be more responsible and ethical.. Though.. Too many don't wanna listen and too many don't wanna educate either, so it's.. Unfortunate, but.. i think we're going to see the steem economy mirror the real world ones in a lot of ways, and unless we can address these things, we'll fall for the same traps as our peers. Thanks for the helpful entry! :)
