Homesteaders - Living Naturally, Newsletter. 2nd October 2019

Another month has crept up on us and thus we start October. Autumn and spring are truly in full swing in the two hemispheres. Keep up the great work with your homesteading, gardening and environment content, because there are hard working people out there looking to curate you. Each week @pennsif posts the Sustainability Curation Digest for MSP and each week @eco-alex and @artemislives hunt for environmentally supportive posts to go in the @ecotrain Global Steem Village News. Then at @naturalmedicine a group of people hunt for natural health posts for the weekly curation post and lets not forget the posts shared here each week in the newsletter. If you're someone who does sewing then the chances are that @crosheille will be looking you up for @needleworkmonday.

In addition to the communities doing their own curation posts, many of those individuals are also sending their favourites to other curation projects like @curangel, @curie, @ocd, @c-squared and @c-cubed. #newsteem even has the old bid bots turning to curation; such is the turn away from bid bots. Anyone using a bid bot may now not be considered for curation by some of these projects if they have used one within a 7 day period.

The message is that if you're posting good content you no longer need to pay for it to earn, curators are looking for you. Make use of your tags and make them pertinent. For the newsletter I look under #homesteading and #gardening, mostly. I'll expand into #naturalmedicine, #recipes, #needlework and #sustainability if I'm coming up short in certain areas. @ecotrain will see all #ecotrain tags, but the chances are they'll look for other things too. Perhaps they'll enlighten us in the comments. @naturalmedicine has a full list of tags they support listed on most of their posts:

  • naturalmedicine
  • naturalhealth
  • naturalhealing
  • health
  • yoga
  • spirtuality
  • innerblocks
  • herbalism
  • vegansofsteemit
  • fruitsandveggiesmonday

September's Garden Journal Challenge is running a little late, but @simplymike has gotten it up despite health setbacks and you may still have time to get an entry in.

The @naturalmedicine challenge is one week in and the week one winner has been announced. However, you needn't worry, if you were hoping to make your own entry then you still have until 7th October. This week they're asking what your preventative medicine is.

Some highlights of the week

When you're living with the land and seasons, it can be tough working through what nature throws at you. Over at @myhomesteaded they been learning a lot of new lessons almost every day and this one involved a newborn lamb near to death. Sometimes you've got to work with what you've got and what you know and trust the rest to instinct.

When we imagine homesteading and living self sufficiently, we picture living on land in the country. Yet most of the population lives in urban areas, so there's no real reason not to start there. The @homestead-guru shares 8 hard lessons learned homesteading in the city which should help you figure out how you might start city homesteading.

@riverflows walks us through her herb garden, explaining a bit about why she chose to grow what she grows. Some great ideas for if you're thinking of what to add to your own herb garden.

The contrast between the manual work of preparing the firewood for winter and the duty of preparing food for the family stands out in this post from @farm-mom. Frittata anyone?

And you can also see all the tags we support on www.naturalmedicine.io.... content using #naturalmedicine will be pulled onto that front end. Love the connections between homesteading and environment and health tags between these various communities!
