On Steemit

I hadn't realized just how much I had accomplished in under six months on steemit until @pennsif of the homesteading community I belonged to had asked for mentors for incoming and existing members. He had put a call out members and I answered immediately.

My Experience On Steemit, Projects & Goals

This is listed in the post about how far I have advanced, what I have accomplished and what I have to offer.

  • I joined steemit in mid-July 2017, and have a reputation of just hovering under 59 currently.
  • I am a moderator for the homesteadersonline Discord group
  • I am the un official meet and greet ambassador for the same group.
  • I am a @fulltimegeek Steward of Gondor; which means he has delegated 5k SP (steem power) to me to be his “spokesperson” and find new talent among the steemians.
  • I am the sole writer of a newsletter at @qurator ( which has about 500 members) and write posts every morning, as well as collaborate to approve incoming members for the group/curator.
  • I belong to nine Discord groups; while I am active in three every day, I do venture into the others for updates.
  • I have a weekly recognition post where I recognize fellow homesteaders called HOLLER OUT Tuesday
  • I just started doing a weekly update for the community with new contests and all other pertinent topics
  • With the assistance of @beatitudes8, we have a weekly seed exchange that happens every Monday. Giveaways and things for other homesteaders. We hope to grow this more and expand bigger in Spring 2018.
  • I have decent knowledge of formatting on steemit, as well as other platforms
  • Every week I have been EMBRACING a new homesteading member and offering 100% UPvotes every day for a week.
  • I just completed a Secret Santa giveaway and have a current one for the New Year where I just spread the joy and pay-it-forward to other homesteaders with consistent and good quality posts.

A few more things I would add are that I belong to another wonderful Discord group called steemitbloggers. The support in the group is amazing and I am thrilled to be a part of it; all thanks to @jaynie who happens to be a tremendous steemian and fabulous owner/moderator of the group.

I'm always on the task of helping other new steemians in their venture and quest to grow their page, find out answers to their questions and guide them.

My 2018 Steemit Goals & Plans

  • I plan to continue posting every day, commenting and replying as much as I can. As I said in a recent post, I am the resteem queen and love spreading others' informative and well-written posts for my following to read and discover.

  • Continue being a Steward Of Gondor for @fulltimegeek and seeking new upcoming steemit talent

  • Advancing my visibility and grow more by adding to my following and increasing my reputation. On a personal level, I have a goal of hitting reputation by my six-month steemit anniversary in mid-January. Not at all impossible.

  • Continuing to have giveaways and add even more to the homesteading community.

  • Continue to be the qurator writer and sharing the curation page's information with all who may want or need some more visibility

  • Expand and improve my weekly Tuesday recognition post (HOLLER OUT) with some great homesteading and gardening talent. I have some ideas and just need to implement them over the next few weeks.

2017 On The Homestead

  • I purchased a greenhouse originally for hardening my seedlings but soon it evolved into an herb area. I moved the herbs to an entire front yard plant bed and continued planting new herbs.

2018 Goals, Plans & Dreams

  • I plan on having more containers, raised beds and even a cold frame next year.
  • With limited space for a true garden, I will be relying on my knowledge and MANY pots and small containers to grow what I want and need to be able to preserve for the winter months.
  • I will be purchasing a pressure cooker to add to my skills for preserving more garden items and even meats.
  • I would like to have a larger, more permanent, greenhouse
  • I want to add some small fowl, chickens.
  • Planning on expanding my other skills in the DIY and recipe knowledge by making more health items from herbs, more infused oils & tinctures
  • Plan on continuing the healthy2018 way of life and eating better and exercising more often
  • Expanding my front herb garden to produce more medicinal herbs

Happy New Year! This article has been included in the most recent issue of the Weekly Homesteading Newsletter! Please check it out if you have the time! Thank you!

I am excited about the new season. We have 2 garden areas here. One space holds the run away strawberry beds, herbs, hops, few flowers like calendula and comfrey and lupine. The other has always been tomatoes, squash etc. I've changed the way I eat these days so some things aren't necessary anymore. The second garden will be revamped into a blue berry patch. It won't be long and we will be gathering eggs from our Cornish roosters flock of white rocks. Yes, we do hatch our own chicks.
As soon as I remember how to post pictures, I will show you one of the gardens and some peeps. :) Thank you for the link! I will try it later on today. Looking forward to new ideas and friends.

If you ever need help on here just let me know.

I'm anxious to see your pics and gardening updates.
I've loved your posts so far on Here!

Its hard to know what folks are interested in hearing about. Thank you for the vote! I'll get the hang of it. :) or not! lol will be checking out the chat later.

I write what interests me and after a while you kind of _pick up_what people are interested in so you can expand your writing topics.

My brain is so drained with all the information flooding in. lol you may be able to smell the smoke from the wheels turning! I so appreciate all your help and input. Still haven't gotten to the other link yet, but will soon. I told my room mates I'm not entering any contests until I feel comfortable with this stage. You have made me feel very welcome. Thank you. Happy Healthy New year to you and yours. Thanks again :)

An excellent set of achievements for 2017 and some fine goals for the coming year.

I am very happy to be working alongside you to promote and nuture the homesteading community on steemit.

Same here! Back at you!
Been a great year for the homesteadersonline community!

Wow.. you are doing so much... I thought I was putting in a lot of work on Steemit.. I feel like such a rookie in comparison.. how do you find the time..

I didn't know you were part of @qurator ... I've got my monthly donation waiting lol.. it's due in a couple days.. that's a great project...

Good luck in 2018...

Yes I joined qurator about month and a half ago.
I brought the tasty Tuesday and Friday photo editions to life.

Find time? I consider steemit my career and devote 10-12 hours a day to it.

I was just thinking the other day about what I had done this last year and about how time seemed to fly. At first, it seemed like we did not do much, but when you getting to thinking about it, we have accomplished a lot. Like you, our main priority is our garden, but we are also getting ready for some calves in the spring. I am definitely looking forward to what the future has in store!

I know... the year was here, now it's almost gone.

Awesome about the calves! I'll watch for some posts about them and your garden.

I am excited about the new year and new season here also. We will be putting in a garden in the spring, we tried to last year but we failed miserably, so hoping this year is better. Did some soil amendments so I think it will be better. We are going to work on starting the AirCrete and get it figured out so we can start making blocks to build the houses we want. I hope to grow my Steemit blog a whole lot more in the coming year, I will get into using dtube and see how it goes. Hope 2018 brings us all prosperity in our endeavors.

Ohhh, the Air-crete!!! Come on spring! We have so much work to do!!!

YES!!

Hope 2018 brings us all prosperity in our endeavors

If it was not so cold we would be starting now! Mother Nature is not helping. LOL.

you are amazing, and i am excited to read more about pressure cooking. i've got water-bath canning down, but PC scares me something fierce!

I have never had one blow up on me. But they do require constant monitoring. I usually pull up a chair and just watch. I have two. I can chicken and venison. Stew hens turn into broth. Food literally lasts forever. Be brave :)

i won't be scared! if nothing has shattered on me yet, nothing will blow up!

I had a PC years ago but lost it in a move. I've been wanting one for quite some time.

are they anything you'd ever consider buying second hand? or are they too persnickety & should be bought brand new?

I've known people who buy second hand or have been handed down old ones. Mine had been purchased new and a gift. I really wish I knew what had happened to it.

do socks have a tendency to disappear in your household? i bet they're all having a party together somewhere in the hide-o-sphere.

do you know where those socks go? To the time guys. They don't care whether they match or not. lol either that or they got sucked out of the barrel of your washing machine when it was over loaded and went into the drain. :)

LOL - i got a good chuckle out of this!

buying second hand is okay if you don't see potmarkings on rim where the seal sits and the kettle has no cracks. Always get a new gasket for the lid and make sure the vent valve is clear. They really are very durable.

i have a feeling someone out there on the island has one that they're not using.

if you have a local home extension office they will probably be able to test the gauge itself. That would be the only other issue with the canner. Happy Canning!

I think I've said it before but I'll say it again to be sure... You rule! You're doing so much for the homesteading community. Thank you, big time! <3

Thank you!! I love writing, posting and, of course, being on steemit, so doing what I do comes easily for me.

Very good post my friend. I like it

Sounds like quite the productive year! I'm still in awe of your pot garden. I've still not improved at keeping things alive in pots.

That was a small one last year. This coming year I have GREAT plans on expanding it. Can't wait for winter to be over so I can start my seedlings and getting things in order.

Looking forward to seeing it. Hopefully some tips coming up too?
