Steemit Engagement Challenge | S8-W2 | Gender visibility and equality - @janemorane

Hello beautiful people!

Today I am going to participate in the Steemit Engagement Contest, Season#8 week#2. The topic for this week is very nice as on 8th of march it was international women's day and this contest theme is related to it so I think it will help highlight the importance of women and women's day.

How can you help your community forge a gender-equal world?

Gender equality is the basic human right and all genders should be treated equally. But now the question arises: who will make the world a gender equal world? This is the most important question. In my opinion we as single individuals can play a vital role in changing the community and making a gender equal world.

For making a big change we will start from a small one and that small change will be starting from our home. Treating our children equal in fields of life, giving both the girls and the boys equal opportunities to grow, to get education, these small things will lead to big changes in the society because these children when grown up become a part of the society.

When you groom your children in such a way that they know what equality is and how they should treat other genders then the society will automatically become gender-equal and your community will be a part of a gender -equal world.

Can celebrating Women's International day increase visibility and equality?

Yes, in my opinion every single day is a women's day because the hard work, the struggle that each woman on earth does is uncountable. Women in the face of mother, daughter, sister and wife play a great role in the betterment of the society. But celebrating women’s day is something that makes them feel special about their existence.

For example we celebrated women’s day at our university on 8th of march and believe me I was so happy. The importance that women have in the society became visible and people came to know about how women play a vital role in making the world at peace. It increases equality in a way that men come to know about the struggle women do and only then they can understand their importance and existence.

Are the Feminism fight and the Women’s Rights fight the same?

Feminism talks about the equal rights of women, feminist believe that women should be given equal rights as men and should be treated equally. On the other hand women’s rights fight is the fight to give the women rights they are deprived of.

The motto behind both the fights is the same which is providing women their rights. In my opinion feminism is more of a peaceful fight because it demands gender equality because they say that there should be equal participation of men and women in all streams of life.

Women should be treated equally whether it is in the educational sector, work place, house or any other place where women are treated badly or are suppressed by dominant men in the society.

What do you say about women in top positions like Presidents, Parliamentarians, Senators, CEOs (Chief Executive Officers), and COO (Chief Operations Officers)? Give possible examples in your country(community)

In our society being a patriarchal society did not provide many opportunities to women. So, when we see a female leader working in the top positions like presidents and other top authorities we feel proud because making it to the top isn’t easy in this patriarchal society where there are men all over in the top positions.

Women should be given equal opportunities to work in those places where men are in majority, the equality in the workplace will lead to a gender equal world so my personal belief is that females in top authorities give proof about the gender equality in those countries or societies.

In the history of our country only few women make it to the top positions such as president but we had a female prime minister who was the first prime minister of pakistan in history. Benazir Bhutto was the first prime minister of Pakistan who was killed in a rally in December 2007.She made history and I think there is a need for more benazir in our country.

What makes a Good Leader (Gender or merit)

In my opinion a Good leader is one who has good intellectual skills, good communication skills and the one who is a good listener. Gender is a socially constructed role, but in reality there is nothing like gender. Leaders should have leadership qualities in order to attain leadership.

I have seen many good leaders, some of them are men and some are women so I don’t really believe that good leaders are men or that of women but it totally depends on the qualities they have. If they are good enough to communicate with the people in such a way that influences them and encourages them to follow that person.

A good leader also has these leadership traits in their personality that makes them the best leaders and not because they are men or women.
