The Steemit Engagement Challenge Season 5 weeek 4 is here and this is my entry for the theme of this week's topic from this community. It is indeed a very interesting topic as its different from the rest.
The world cup is an international federation football competition that takes place every four years. The FIFA world cup is an established football competition defined by many fans and vast followers. The world's best international team players take to the world cup to represent their nations.
The World Cup is considered the greatest sporting event in the World. The next edition of the tournament is now less than a month away with Qatar being the host.
32 teams, 64 games, 8 groups of 4, years of qualification matches and one world champion, certainly the preparations didn't start today. The world cup is a very intriguing competition as you never can predict what happens in the big stages.

My World cup preparation has been limited to setting up our decoders as not all fans can make it to the live games. This year's world cup is more or less intriguing to me as Nigeria could make it to the world cup as Ghana piped us to it.
Who doesn't follow the biggest sporting tournament in the world? certainly not me. I have followed every single world cup tournament since I get to know the game of football. My very first world dates back to 2002, Korea-Japan. Then, I was just a seven-year-old boy, being introduced to a sport that unites the whole world.
My second world-up memory came in 2006 when Germany hosted the tournament with Italy emerging winners ahead of France with Zinedine Zidane's head-butting situation. This world cup introduced me to a lot of world greats the likes of Klose, Podolski and Buffon.
However, my favourite world-cup experience comes in the Shape of the South African tournament in 2010. This tournament not only produced electrifying football, but also the best world cup songs in the likes of Oh African by Akon, Waka Waka by Shakira and Waving Flag by K'naan009. Not forgetting Sign of Victory by R kelly. All of these songs were loved by all.

Precisely, the 2010 world came with a lot of memories as it was the first of its kind on African soil. From the kick of the first game to the last whistle of the final were all very wonderful moments.
The first Goal of the tournament came from the South African star Tshabalala against Mexico and it was a "Goal of the week" moment.
Africa was proudly behind Ghana as they were the only African team to make it to the quarter-finals with Uruguay denying the entire Africa passage to the Semifinals with the main Actor being Suarez when he handle the ball inside the goal post to prevent Ghana from moving 2-1 up, with Gyan missing the resulting penalty. The incident still soils my heart even as I came to love Suarez in later years, it kept popping up that he did us dirty.
How can anyone forget the famous Van Persie's flying header against Spain? A moment very lovely to watch again and again and again.
I can not count out any worse moments from the world cup tournaments so far, but I would say the Suarez hand-blocking was a very sad moment for not just me, but the entire African soil. Not forgetting Suarez biting Chiellini in the next edition, c'mon football is a game that unites.
My recent best moment is France winning the World Cup back in 2018 as my entire household supported them. Some even tag France's win as Africa's win.
For this, I think it's the fact that no single team is a minor, we all saw what Croatia did in the just-concluded world cup in Russia, in 2018. Nobody gave them a chance, but they showed the class they were made of.
The World cup is more than just a game of football to all who participate, and their fans as well. Fans have mortgaged their homes to attend the World cup. This tells you how big a World cup tournament is as careers are made and defined.
Since my beloved nation, Nigeria is not participating and I have no affiliations with who is to be crowned the world's best, I hope to enjoy this world cup as every other one passed, but I would love to see African teams do well if possible let's have an African winner for the first time. If not, Brazil all the way.
