SEC-S16W2 | Solo vs Group Travel - A group? No Option

Tour travel solo.jpg

I love travelling, travelling around, always discovering something new.
As soon the weather changes, there is a warm breeze and the sun shines, I want to leave, get away, see the world (remember the film 'Chocolate'? That's how I feel). If that world I need to travel is only a few miles away, that's fine too.

I always save for the trip and as soon as I have the money I go.
I never care about the hotel, luxury or food just about reaching my destination. My children never stopped me I take them with me, still babies of a few weeks old, and never experienced problems, no sick children, nothing. I travel light with as little luggage as possible, so indeed I am that mother without bum wipes, paper tissues and suitcases, bags packed with all kinds of stuff I have to drag along like a pack mule. Vacation and travelling should be easy and not a burden. If not I prefer to stay home.

Unlike many, I do not have burnout during my trip (holiday) because I am prepared and not so naive that I assume that it is everywhere like at home. I am also not the Dutch person who takes suitcases full of food along, I eat what is available, preferably where and what the locals eat and if the flow of tourists goes to the right, I go to the left.

You guessed it: I don't like groups and especially not group travel. As far as organized group trips are concerned, I am not the only one who is horrified by them. At the moment my youngest has to organize a group trip for 40 people, not what she or most people think would be interesting or fun, but what the teacher has in mind and wants tourists to see. This teacher may occasionally be a guide in town, but he clearly has no idea what he's talking about. His requirements do not even correspond to how airlines, hotels, etc. work concerning bookings. The man must be living on some cloud no one knows about. The benefits of internet if it comes to travels is unknown to him.

If I am travelling, am on vacation I want value for my money meaning doing what I like and when I like it. If I'm tired, I go to bed, if I want to walk around, look at the shops, listen to a street musician for an hour and skip dinner the decision is mine. I want to be able to do what I feel to without any hassle. I don't like to stick to a timetable because otherwise, I'll miss the bus or a stressed guide will scold me.

I don't want to be stuck with people who have different interests than me, who smoke, drink, are 'joking around', are loud and make me feel ashamed because I belong to that group. Unfortunately, there are quite a few people who misbehave. If on holiday you encounter them everywhere: on the flixbus, in the most expensive hotel, on the plane and at the campsite. So people like me are better off traveling solo. This way I don't get annoyed with others and others don't have to get annoyed with me either.

A flight or trip by train or bus can easily be booked online. This also applies to overnight accommodation, taxi reservations and so on. Places often have a tourist information office or a site and otherwise, information can be found about sightseeing, festivals, theatre visits, nature, the doctor, dentist, and public transport tables on the internet whereas also travel blogs of other (solo) travellers with suggestions and warnings are shared.

The Dutch Railways have city trips, walks and tips. They give a map on what to do in a city in 24 hours. These are not group trips, you travel alone and decide for yourself what to visit. Not in the mood for a city walk then it can be skipped and visiting the market, a cinema, library, all the bookstores, sitting at the riverside or watching people and street artists are options too.

Last spring/summer I travelled with a friend by car and that was fun, but two people don't make a group! We laughed a lot and spent the nights in the craziest places and under different circumstances.
Just like me, my friend is a wanderer and we prefer travelling for months. Who knows, maybe when the children are old enough there will be money for a van or camper again (to sleep).

Will this ever happen? I can dream and if not, I have enough memories of the trips I made as well as plenty of slides and photos to refresh my memory.

It is said that preparing for a trip is more than 50% of the pleasure of travelling. For me, that percentage is way higher, while for my youngest it is currently considerably lower because the teacher, Mr Whiner, ruins every creative, fun journey. It's a good thing that man doesn't have a travel agency, otherwise he would be bankrupt within 6 months.

I always save for the trip and as soon as I have the money I go.

In my experience, saving up for a trip before embarking on it adds a sense of financial preparedness, allowing for a more enjoyable and stress-free travel experience. This approach aligns with my preference for having the necessary funds in place before setting off on any journey.

I don't like to stick to a timetable because otherwise, I'll miss the bus or a stressed guide will scold me.

As a traveler myself, I completely relate to the sentiment of avoiding strict timetables during vacations. It provides the freedom to adapt plans based on personal preferences, ensuring a more relaxed and enjoyable exploration of the destination without the worry of sticking to a rigid schedule.

Last spring/summer I traveled with a friend by car and that was fun, but two people don't make a group!

My observation is that traveling with a friend, while enjoyable, often retains the flexibility and spontaneity of solo travel. It allows for shared experiences without the dynamics and potential complications that come with larger group dynamics. The connection between two individuals can create memorable and personalized adventures.

All the best

Without savings or cash I can't travel. I do not have a creditcard and have no loans or debts I like to keep it that way. I know about acquuntances travelling three till four years abroad because the in-laws expected it and thought they were rich. They also had to bring along whatever was on the wishinglist. Back home they couldnt pay the rent and had hardly anything to eat, daily fearing to be kicked out of the house. I couldn't 'enjoy' a vacation this way.

Timetables are the worst, it takes away each spontanious act. It makes travelling stressful instead of an enjoyable event. It's not for me. I would only join if it's easier to get a visa and once arrived I dissapear. LOL

If it comes to my friend the laughing and fun made up a lot (she's in a wheelchair but can stand and walk a few steps) plus we both spent time alone and did as we liked. If not it would never work for me, I can't always give in and sacrifice myself for others their needs.

Thanks for your super comment. It's good to hear there are more solo travellers around here.

🍀❤️

if we talk about traveling alone or with a group, these two things have good sides and bad sides,
,
For example, if we go alone, the good side is that we have wide freedom, whenever and wherever we want to stop, it's up to us.

and an example of the downside of traveling alone is that it costs more than going with a group.

The good side of us going as a group is that we can share costs and share experiences and can joke together, that's the advantage or advantage if we travel with a group.

but the bad side is that we don't have a lot of freedom, we just go from point to point, because if we go with a group, let alone not as frequently, this will not look good, and on the bad side, if we go with a group, we have limited freedom. So if most people go with a group they won't feel satisfied.

Thank you for anticipating this contest and good luck in this week's competition, my friend.

It doesn't cost me more if I travel alone on the contrarary. I have a budget and whatever I do fits into it.

The travel with my friend cost me twice at much .

The downside might be getting lost or robbed and people avoiding you. Especially if you are a woman it's more difficult to find places where you are relatively safe.

Did you travel with a group? If so, why not refuse to visit with the entire group and do as you like?

I wish you enjoyable, relaxed and safe travels.

🍀❤️

Iya benar, sekarang sudah banyak sekali perampok.
Makanya haus hati-hati.
Terimakasih sudah membalas komentar saya dengan kata-kata manis anda.

I've never been robbedso far and if I travel I only take my old clothes/stuff with me. I am not attractive to robbers 😉

Take good care.

I didn't know you would choose solo, I'd thought you would love to travel in group. Can you change ypur mind for me? I will be in the group... Hahaha, just kidding

Your choice isn't bad at. There are times when we feel our space is best for us. I was once that way and I still feel that part of me in some occasions. Traveling alone keeps one safe from trouble and help you plan well and not result in disorganized trip. I also believe that solo travel saves cost and stress.

I guess when the kids are old, the van would be available cos I'll be joining 😂. Success to you ma'am.

I could change my mind but it depends on how many people join that group. Perhaps we can travel together and next spend the day in a way we like?

If I have that van I let you know!

Your love for travel and preference for traveling solo is evident in your message. Your independent spirit and desire for flexibility when traveling are evident, as well as your aversion to group travel and strict schedules. Your experiences of traveling light, exploring local cultures, and avoiding the typical tourist trail resonate with many solo travellers. You clearly value the freedom to set your own itinerary and enjoy the trip on your terms. Keep exploring and creating beautiful memories on your solo adventures!

Thank you @kouba01 I will. It's good to know oneself don't you think so?

You're not a fan of traveling in groups, especially when it comes to organized group trips. It seems the reason is due to planning is always to someone's expectations and not yours. It can be frustrating when the focus is more on what the someone wants without considering you. Planning a trip that caters to everyone's preferences can be a challenge. But hey, maybe there's still a chance to find some enjoyment in the journey and make the most out of it either solo or in group. All the best

Greetings friend,
Travel is capable of increasing the scope of human knowledge in many areas. If you want to gain practical knowledge then there is no comparison to travel. The knowledge that can be gained through practical experience by traveling is more permanent.

Thanks a lot for sharing this nice article with us. I wish you all the best for the competition.

That's very true. A lot of knownledge is gathered if we travel. There's always something to see, observe, learn especially if something unexpected happens.

Thank you for you great comment. It's worth the thought.
👍🍀

I am very glad that you have given me your feedback. Thank you very much for that.
