SEC-S14W5 | My Biggest Travel in 2023 | [Sithulpawwa - A Journey filled adventure and excitement]

in Traveling Steem10 months ago

Hello Everyone!
I hope you are doing well...

We love to travel whenever we get free time to relax our minds. Traveling is a great way to relieve stress, and being with nature is like therapy for my mind and soul. Having a baby did not stop me from traveling around the country; I made it a reason to travel more. It was a great experience for me to travel with a toddler. It exposed me to a completely new world and showed me a way to step out from my daily life bringing peacefulness and calmness to mind.

Where you went during the year of 2023? What activities were carried out?

Beginning of the year - In January we visited Dehiattekandiya which is about 230 km away. It was the first trip that we visited with the baby in 2023. It was a challenging trip because we traveled to a really dry zone in the country. The climate is too warm and we were a bit worried about how it would be for our baby. It was one of the biggest trips that we went on in 2023.

Enjoying a beautiful evening at Tissamaharama

On that trip, I had the opportunity to experience the Pimburaththewa Spillover. It was the first time I witnessed such a beautiful spillover. At times, my heart leaped with fear of death, as it was an unusual experience to bathe under a gigantic spillover from the Mahaweli River. During that visit, I also had the chance to witness and experience the diversity of our country, observing the slight differences in people's lives from one region to another.

Trip to Dehiathkandiya, Manampitiya

We had one of our husband's friends living in that area, which made the trip really easy for us. He guided us to all the beautiful places around us and even took us to an ancient temple called Dimbulagala. It was a great experience for me as a Buddhist. This ancient Buddhist monastery is a place that we should not miss visiting. Climbing Dimbulagala Rock was a bit tough journey with the baby, but with the help of our dear friend, it wasn't very challenging. We somehow reached the top, and I was lucky to witness such a stunning view from the Akasa Chaithiya.

Mid-year Trip - Belihuloya has always been one of our favorite destinations to visit. In the middle of the year, we planned another family trip. This was particularly special because we explored many new places we had missed in our previous travels. Samman Devalaya in Rathnapura was one of the places that we missed visiting each time we traveled to the Balangoda area. On this trip, we made it an opportunity to visit another ancient temple which we had been planning to visit for a long time.

We also visited the Kurgala Temple, which became a controversial topic in Sri Lanka. Witnessing the beauty of the temple with the evening sun was an eye-pleasing sight. We enjoyed our ride to the temple through the Rajawaka forest reserve. It was another new experience for me, as I hadn't explored such rural areas in Sri Lanka before.

Trip to Belihuloya

The Belihuloya area is filled with fun activities, making it the best place for me to relax my mind and be free of all stress. It was a great place to spend time enjoying the beautiful nature. Evening walks to Samanala Wewa reservoir gave us everlasting memories, by showing a drought in a gigantic reservoir that we never witnessed before.

Year-end trip - We are currently on our year-end trip. We have been planning this trip for a while. Nuwara Eliya is our favorite place to travel during winter. My visits to Nuwara Eliya never fail to surprise me with the uniqueness of its nature. These days, it is exceptionally cold in Nuwara Eliya, and I believe this is my first time experiencing such a misty and cold climate. We are here in Nuwara Eliya this winter to explore places we haven't visited before and to gain a unique experience with the changes in climate.

Any anecdote that makes this trip so unique to be considered the best one of '23? Did you experience this alone or with somebody else?

In comparison with all the above, I can say the best trip I took in 2023 was the mid-year visit to Tissamaharama. It's a high dry zone in the southern province, and it was extremely hot when we visited. On that trip, we traveled to Sithulpawwa, which gave us an extraordinary experience by driving through a dense forest on the Kirinda-Sithulpawwa road. It is one of the places that I wish to travel to again and again. The journey was full of adventures and excitement. This place has my heart, and I wish to explore it more soon. I experienced this journey with my parents and helped me to make this trip even more memorable by allowing me to make memories together as a family.

The most beautiful place I visited on 2023 - The view from the top

Have you planned a budget for it? How much you spent during the trip?

We always try to keep our budget low on a trip, but it's becoming a difficult task with each passing day. With the economic situation here in Sri Lanka, traveling nowadays has become a challenging task in terms of finance. During the trip, we spent approximately thirty-five thousand Srilankan Rupees which is equal to 485.42 Steem on fuel, meals, and accommodation for a two-day trip.

Are you thinking about making an amazing travel in 2024? Which would be the selected place?

As I mentioned above, traveling is one of my favorite things to do. I have many places on my wish list to visit, and I will share one of them. I have never visited the northern part of our country, and I wish to cover those areas in 2024. I wish to experience its cultural beauty and the surroundings. With many places yet to be discovered and explored; I believe I will be able to tick off my wish list one by one, and 2024 will bring me closer to places that my heart loves.

I absolutely agree with you that tourism is kind of a therapy. Travelers are well aware that no matter how tired or mentally stressed a person may be, when a person goes to a good place for a visit, all his fatigue disappears and he feels a completely fresh life. Of course you are right that the financial condition of Sri Lanka is not good but Sri Lanka is such a lovely country that blossoms and is full of beauty and I have my own heart for there are many places in Sri Lanka that in life, I will visit Sri Lanka once . best wishes for you ✨

OMG: Kirinda-Sithulpawwa, Tissamaharama, Belihuloya, Pimburaththewa, Dehiattekandiya... They all a bit strange and difficult to pronounce for me, I hope you can serve me as local guide if one day I happen to visit Sri Lanka very soon.
