...gunpowder, treason and plot.
This is very much a British tradition that on November 5th, we celebrate a failed attempt to blow up the House of Lords back in 1605 by some geezer called Guy Fawkes. The date is known as Guy Fawkes Night and is celebrated with Fireworks.
As with most things that we enjoy, the fireworks tend to span a few nights so we went out to see some child friendly ones on the 4th and I took the opportunity to test out those dodgy photography skills again (I'll put one of my better attempts first so that the thumbnail might be half decent)...
The big downside for me was the "child friendliness" - it meant no big bangs. the-toddler-gorilla likes the big bangs too (the-mrs-gorilla not so much) and on the 5th, the posh school near to our house had their own display which we could watch from a bedroom window... with plenty of bangs...

Posh school was definitely better and we're already looking forward to next year's.

The cropped photo looks like an erupting volcano ๐ to me and the last image resembles a hot air balloon. I didn't actually photo fireworks this year but I photoed members of my family spinning giant sparklers in the garden. When taking long exposures some even reminded me of cowboys. Pity there were no cows to lasso ๐ It was a fun experiment.
I wanted to take some with long exposures but didn't know how on my camera. I tried "time lapse" thinking that might do it. I have a funny feeling you know that they didn't come out very well!

๐ Thereโs always New Yearโs Eve ๐ I would have taken videos with an iPhone 5s, then upload them to YouTube and then include the links in the post which generate a thumbnail photo each.

If they do one of the big displays in the centre of London, you'll capture some amazing photos (if you go). I'll be in bed well before midnight so I certainly won't be taking any pictures ๐๐ด
๐ฑ YouTube were amongst the first who started paying based on the number of times your content has been viewed. You need to reach 1,000 views first and then you start earning.
I will be outside London, up north with the rest of my family. But I used to work for a chain of hotels selling rooms at the Royal Horseguards hotel which is a great base for filming the New Yearโs Eve fireworks that even the BBC uses.
Oh nice, I think we'll be up north for Christmas day too. Depending upon how far North you're heading, will depend upon how cold it gets ๐ฅถ
๐ Thatโs very true indeed. Hopefully we will get some snow too. I will spend the holidays in Northants which got lots of snow in January this year. Pity there isnโt much normally in December.
Ah, that's not really North ๐ I call it North because I'm a southerner so everywhere north of the Watford Gap is called north. the-mrs-gorilla's from Hull so Northants would at best be considered the Midlands.
I have family in Milton Keynes. There are lots of roundabouts in Milton Keynes.

Hahaha.. Not the people. I just like forming pictures out of things such as these ones and i see creatures which can only be seen in my nighmares in the 4th, 5th and 6th photos.. will be hard to explain. Or maybe it's just my stupid mind๐

if it weren't for the film I wouldn't know anything about this at all but it is nice to see people celebrate stuff like this. It's much better than all of the Hallmark holidays.
Ha ha - I've never seen Halloween. It seems strange that Hollywood adopted it enough to turn it into a movie, but not enough to make it a celebration in the US too. Blowing shit up feels like something that would go down well with the American public!
It really is. It won't be long before we're exchanging cards and gifts on Black Friday. Not knowing when the gifts should begin to be exchanged now that Black Friday spans a 3 week period.
Actually, I didn't know about these celebrations. When every November 5th, I always think of V For Vendetta. I watched V. as a very charismatic freedom fighter in the movie. When I first learned that the ideology of Guy Fawkes, inspired by the movie, was different from V's, I was surprised. Only people with pro-freedom ideas like in the movie are cool at every stage of history.
Btw, your fireworks photos look beautiful, but the negative effects of fireworks are too much for animals, especially birds. Maybe these shows will turn into light shows one day โจ
I've never seen that movie - I didn't realise it was based upon Guy Fawkes. The story's one which we're taught from a young age (at primary school) to help us understand why we shoot rockets into the sky every year.
I've seen that they've started some incredible light shows using drones which are so clever. I haven't been lucky enough to see one live yet but I hope that I do.

They're amazing and there are a few YouTube videos which demonstrate what's possible. Well worth a watch and hopefully one day, we'll get the opportunity to see a show live.
There are definitely some great drone shows. In fact, they use these shows not only for celebrations but also for advertising. For example, this year, Hyundai Tucson was introduced in Istanbul with a drone show in the Bosphorus. I think it's getting more and more common.
It's so clever. I never cease to be mesmorised by them.
