๐ŸŒž Beautiful Sunrises in Eastbourne

in WORLD OF XPILAR โ€ข 3 years ago

There are times when I wish I had more of an interest in photography, that taking the time to get the perfect shot, in the perfect light was something that I got pleasure from. Instead, I enjoy the moment as it is and take a shitty photo so that I don't forget.

When we moved to our current house a couple of years ago, it was (and still is) intended to be our final move, our final home where we will grow old and die. We have the countryside and the beach on our doorstep and can walk into town in about 15 minutes. We also have fantastic views out to sea and across to the South Downs National Park. This was as perfect a home as we were going to be able to afford without some kind of lottery jackpot or Steem reaching over $100.

I also told myself that I'd never take it for granted. We're so incredibly lucky to be where we are that I have to appreciate it. Not necessarily every day, but never to forget. So when I was sat here at some crazy early hour, unable to sleep after an early baby-gorilla awakening, to look out of the window and see the sky the way it was, was a reminder to stop for a minute and appreciate it. So I went upstairs and took a few photos out of the window, thinking to myself. "You're one lucky so and so". I hope you enjoy my pictures even if they are from a phone older than many football clubs latest ยฃ50m player.

The South Downs National Park is to the right of these photos. I know some of you have walked down this slope to the cafรฉ at the bottom (not in the photo).

Our route to the beach and into town is in these photos. I tried to be arty and capture the sun through the trees.

Do I have a future in photography or should I stick to writing about Sport? I know that photos of the sky are very popular on Steemit - How well do mine compare?

You create great articles. They are interesting, they make you want to comment. You definitely need to write, and not just about sports, but about sports as well.

We rarely stop and enjoy what surrounds us. The worries filled all our thoughts. And we complain all the time, we don't appreciate what we have.

This post will make many people look at things from another angle.

ย 3 years agoย

Thank you, that's very kind of you to say so.

We rarely stop and enjoy what surrounds us. The worries filled all our thoughts. And we complain all the time, we don't appreciate what we have.

Some years ago (maybe 5 or 6), I did some real soul searching and thought about the things that are important to me at a sub-conscious level. What makes me happy and I ended up creating 4 "values", 2 of which I think you mention here -

  1. Explore the world around you
  2. Enjoy what you have, don't be concerned by what you don't.

Nowadays, we're trained to think about what the next goal is, what we want to achieve, what we need to buy, etc. instead of stopping and realising what you have and to enjoy it.

In case you're interested, my other 2 are -

  1. Continue to learn
  2. Be fair to myself and others.

Continue to learn
Be fair to myself and others

Very aptly said. I did not expect such a deep introspection.

Perhaps I would add: take into account the needs of others. We live in a society, and we don't like it when someone violates our space. In the same way, we should take care of others, learn to live together and not violate the comfort of others. But all this is included in:

Be fair to ... others

Thank you for sharing interesting thoughts.

ย 3 years agoย

Exactly ๐Ÿ™‚ And all of these have one single overarching word that encapsulates everything - "Freedom".

The story is meaningful and warm. We all have much and we all (most of us) can appreciate things to the full extent only when we lose them.

As for images, I don't support posting similars. Like 3 last ones.

Do I have a future in photography or should I stick to writing about Sport?

Photography is sport when you move your legs and hands and sit down and stand up and bend down and bend up for several hours, especially when you have 1kg+ camera in your hands. At the same time, writing about sport and watching sport is not actually sport.

I enjoy the moment as it is

And here I can only envy you. Photography and the moment as it is hardly comes together.

ย 3 years agoย

I focussed the light differently on the last one, and perhaps the 2 before are the same photo ๐Ÿคฃ

Photography is sport when you move your legs and hands and sit down and stand up and bend down and bend up for several hours, especially when you have 1kg+ camera in your hands. At the same time, writing about sport and watching sport is not actually sport.

I watch and write about sport so that I don't have to move my legs and hands and sit down and stand up and bend down and bend up for several hours ๐Ÿ˜† If I did, I'd do some housework - our kitchen's a mess. I jest of course (although our kitchen is a mess). I think me writing about the sport I play would be very boring compared to writing about something others may well have watched themselves.

Photography and the moment as it is hardly comes together.

I'm sure many would disagree but I believe there's a lot of truth in this. There are certainly times, particularly with my children, where I've tried to take a great photo to savour the moment and perhaps miss some of the moment as a result. So I tend to settle for something quick to remember it by - not ideal when I want to get something printed to hang on the wall!

our final home where we will grow old and die.

You should write about your view on death some time.. you really made it sound simple but death and aging are things people don't really wanna talk about. I'm fascinated by it(death) ๐Ÿ˜…
If you feel the time is right, please do write about it.

ย 3 years agoย

Ha ha. It's one of those happy subjects.

I remember saying to somebody about 10 years ago that if I died then, I wouldn't mind because life doesn't get any better than this. The greatest fear is the affect it will have on others, especially my family.

It's a delicate subject but one we're all very familiar with. Some people get comfort in talking about it, others don't. the-mrs-gorilla works in Palliative care and I've possibly picked up a few bits along the way.

The greatest fear is the affect it will have on others, especially my family.

Yeah, that's what makes death dreadful and the fact that we don't know what's next after death makes it frightening too. Either than that, there wouldn't be any good reason to be bothered by it... because no matter what you do, you'll "taste" it too๐Ÿ™‚

Great photos. I also like to photograph clouds. Have a great weekend.

There's something special about the sky bring that colour ๐Ÿ™‚

I spent my whole life at sea. I can predict what the weather will be like tomorrow by the clouds. On these clouds I expect a strong wind the next day.

ย 3 years agoย

I took these a few days ago and I think you're correct - it's been very windy here recently!

Stunning sunrises you were lucky to see and photo over there in Eastbourne. I can just imagine how fantastic it is to live in such a wonderful area with the seaside and a national park within a walking distance. My favourite photo is the last but one actually. Did you edit the photos a bit, even just on the phone applying some filters? I think youโ€™ve got a future in photography! It needs people who are able to see beauty which you did by taking these sunrise photos. I like the composition and the different colours which create depth. Of course to take similar images with a DSLR camera doing the settings manually would involve a bit of a practice and research but if youโ€™re after a new hobby which youโ€™ve already got an audience for here on Steemit, please give it a try. Based on the footer you put together, I see that you use Photoshop already so youโ€™ve got the post production sorted.

ย 3 years agoย

#nofilter ๐Ÿ™‚ I wouldn't know how to do anything like that! I could photoshop something in but I wouldn't know where to start with photo editing. The sky was so amazing, I couldn't really mess it up!

I'm still using Photoshop 7 - I dislike the subscription model that Adobe have gone to now and I know where everything is (the bits that I use of course). My skills really are very limited!

Oh, the idea of taking up a new hobby... I wish that I had time to do the hobbies that I've already got โ˜น๏ธ

ย 3 years agoย

The sunrises were just picture perfect then which even saved you time having to edit the photos. If you open one of the images on your Iphone there's an edit option in the top right corner. There are about ten filters which you better adjust when applying to a photo so you don't end up with a red face or neon green grass for instance. If you really decide to give it a go one day, I recommend you duplicate the photo first, this functionality is under the sharing option at the bottom left corner. It is always best to have the original image and then you can have fun applying various edits to a copy.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ป I have a subscription and I am using Adobe Photoshop 2021. I find it user friendly, it's bursting with tutorials, short cuts and examples so even if you've never used it before for photo editing it won't take you more than half an hour to get to know the basics.

Time's never enough, so true.

Ah, the-toddler-gorilla likes to add effects on the-mrs-gorilla's phone whilst taking photos. They'd be very impressive if he wasn't obsessed with taking photos of feet (very deliberately, not by accident). He's much more arty than me already.

I think I used Photoshop CS 2018 or 2019 (a friend worked at Adobe so I got a year's subscription for about ยฃ20) but I don't use it enough to warrant the expenditure. I think you get Lightroom too don't you? I've not really used any of the newer versions ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

ย 3 years agoย

That sounds promising ๐Ÿ“ธ Feet sound fun! Print some of his photos and improvise an exhibition! Few apps give you free prints and free delivery.

Adobe Photoshop comes with Lightroom, yes. Just for minor edits or if you really have plenty of time and enjoy editing. I totally agree that you need to use a software often enough to actually spend money on a subscription. I contribute to their photo collection and they also reward me with the subscriptions. They provide codes for getting their apps complimentary: Photography Plan (Photoshop and Lightroom), InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects and Premiere Pro.

Oh that's cool - that makes a lot of sense for you and I forgot that they have their own image stock. Dreamweaver was the other one I used to use a lot but I've also got an old version of that (2003 I think when it was owned by Macromedia) - one of the many hobbies that have fallen by the wayside in recent years!

ย 3 years agoย

๐Ÿ˜ฑ Dreamweaver looks awesome! I've not tried doing web design. I admit it looks exciting. As far as I know it is really time consuming so I am not surprised you dropped this hobby of yours. But you might go back to it one day who knows ๐Ÿ˜Š

ย 3 years agoย

Who knows ๐Ÿ™‚ I still do the odd bit of coding every now and again, usually to save me time with repetitive tasks but I've recently got a new laptop and haven't installed it yet.

Little known fact about me... An iPhone app I wrote reached number 1 in the Sports section on iTunes. But if I tell you what it was, you'll know who I am in the real world... and we can't be having that ๐Ÿ˜†

how do you find Eastbourne? my friend is thinking of moving there.

ย 3 years agoย

We're very happy here and I'd be very happy to answer any questions your friend has. We also lived in London before heading down here so can hopefully relate to them in some way ๐Ÿ™‚

Some gorgeous shots there. There is something about the colours of a sunrise or sunset that just soothes my soul.

ย 3 years agoย

I totally agree - especially with the sea so close too ๐ŸŒŠ

Very very nice pictures, @the-gorilla
Congratulations for living where you live and for having the sensitivity to enjoy the beautiful views that nature offers.
Have a nice day!

Saludos ๐Ÿ˜Š

ย 3 years agoย

Thank you - they are perhaps the best photographs I've ever taken ๐Ÿ˜† I normally photograph at least 1 finger and the image is usually blurred!

ย 3 years agoย

ย 3 years agoย

Ha ha, thank you. You should see the photos I took as a child (before digital cameras). You wouldn't know your finger was over the lens until 2 weeks later when the photographs had been developed and arrived in the post. It's no exaggeration to say that over half of them had my finger in them! My dad wasn't happy about the wasted money spent on a film and getting it developed!

ย 3 years agoย

jajajajaja puedo imaginarlas.

ย 3 years agoย

Ah yes, blurred photos too! I'd often have blurred fingers over a blurred photo! The invention of the digital camera has certainly saved a lot of frustration although a part of me misses the limitation that only being able to take 30 photos brings!

La mejor fotografรญa, fue la quedo plasmada en tu alma, aquella imagen que tus ojos vieron y que se quedo plasmada en todo tu ser, aquella que te dio paz y alegrรญa.
