Fighting Abuse on Steem: Plagiarism by @quanbriel. Why people choose this way?

Hello my dear Steemians and Art Fans,

Another day and another case of Deception @quanbriel that we have found and wanted to draw your attention. It was again the beauty of Visual Art that was used to deceive the users and curators on Steem.

Deception case 1@quanbriel: Plagiarism of Hyperrealistic Artwork

This is the post that we have noticed yesterday, drawing immediately caught our attention because it requires High Skills and not many people work in this style. This post is created initially with the name:

“My Portrait Art Contest”

This was only picture that was saved:

We usually give a chance the user to admit their failure and be honest. Unfortunately, people still decide to deceive, like in this case.

image.png

Let’s see who is @branding.guru: He is new user, who posted no posts and reading his description of himself we learn that he is Life Coach/Philanthropist/Brandpreneur/chef. There is nothing about drawing and creating art, but also if he did the drawing why he did not post in his blog?

So for us it was a deception case, let’s go to real Author.

Original Author: Artist Ali Haider

The original Artist Ali Haider is well known to Youtube Art community with his Hyper-realistic Art tutorials, has more than 78K Followers, his Instagram and Facebook with his videos and he is not looking like the “fiend” of the user

Deception Case 2 @quanbriel: Photo Plagiarism

This is another post that was posted in WOX:

This is a comment from yesterday with our explanation and answer of user but nothing happen no changes to post.

Let’s go to original source:

You can see in left lower corner the same image and here it is in full size and colour

I do not think that the user is Prima Kardashi, otherwise we would have real Celebrety on Steem.

CONCLUSION

After my last post about the case of @jemilatu has brought 72 comments in total, that is huge amount that only meant that this is a Hot Topic. We were glad that @steemcurator01 saw our posts and called for the Moderators of other Communities. I read many comments and was shocked that there were few among the commentators who themselves were the victims of Plagiarism

@weisser-rabe who had published her Poem in the Magazine but later on found it as lyrics of the song of one of the known bands.

@crismaidel found her Achievement 1 including the photos posted by someone else claiming that this is his.

When we are suddenly on other side, on the side of victims then we know how it is, the feeling when someone has stolen your property.

There were other comments too of the Moderators of other communities. Few wanted to highlight:

This was about the Moderator of one of the Community:
“he is a new moderator and a student without expertise in our team. He is still learning how to manage content for contests. I just suggested for him to do something where he can easily see if it's plagiarism.”

image.png

Translated:
It used to be convenient on steemit! If plagiarism occurred, then the bot immediately triggered! It's a pity that there is no such thing now! It would make life easier for everyone on the steemit site!
But I heard you!

To tell the truth we are on Steemit since 2017 but I have never seen such bot, even in the two cases when my posts were copied and pasted with Photos by other user.

Reading these comments I ask myself how nowadays the Communities choose Moderators and if Moderators know how to check the content for plagiarism. If not then why they host contests?

When @xpilar created WOX and we were looking for Moderators then we created a post and WOX members had to apply with and tell their background and offer their skills. Here is the old post with the announcement of our Moderators, maybe the communities can take it as an example:

have never seen such bot

Yes, there was @cheetah. But it only jumped at very clear cases (I don't know if it even recognized stolen photos).
Today the plagiarists are partly smarter: Once into the translator, again into the translator and back again - already some words are different and the plagiarism scanners (I think @cheetah was based on that) have problems. You have to look very closely when something is suspicious. Human beings have to do that. People like you who take the effort. And I know from personal experience that with every new find you lose faith in an honest usership.... Unfortunately, it can be observed that the higher the price rises and the more there is to "get" in a community, the more copyright infringements occur. The high votes that #club5050 promises, in my eyes, unfortunately entice even more people to "try their luck" dishonestly.
Maybe an ambitious developer can be found to expand a kind of @cheetah - then you would have at least clues.

Ah, remember @cheetah but that was not real Plagiarism detector, I remember it was fining my old Artworks and telling that he found the similar post. Of course it would be similar because it was my one. No I do not really like @cheetah. But what we need it is developer on Steem blockchain, they could probably offer some clever solution or tools for detecting such cases :)

Of course it would be similar because it was my one

Sure. In your case... ;-)

You can't rely on the machine, of course (which some downvoters have unfortunately done), but it can provide clues.
Yes, we need technical helpers quickly.... ;-)

Thank you again for this @stef1.

We are currently considering some changes that we hope will help to tackle this ongoing problem.

#club5050 😀

I also hope that whatever solution the Steemit Team is working on will have the deception cases under control.

Thanks you for reading :)

Hi @stef1,

I don't know why, but when a cheater is caught, I get a strange feeling of pleasure. I love your style and flexibility, I wouldn't be so tolerant.

Great job you do, thank you on behalf of all those who elaborate their participation by being honest.

As a small form of thanks I beg you to accept this humble little gift in the form of a photo.

A winter image of River Cinca in the north of Spain.

Thank you Xavier for your nice comment, yes, we are trying to stay calm and delicate that is only way to avoid confrontation but also to let the people understand their mistake, accept and go forward with new strategy. Who knows how many will be changed :)

Thank you for this peaceful river side. It does not look too cold in winter, you might have no snow there, at least not like in Scotland or Germany :)

@stef1 I apologize for my act and kindly request for your forgiveness.
Won't do such an act again, I humbly request you.

Hi @quanbriel, I have given you a chance to admit the mistake yesterday when I left a comment. Usually we question the people if we found something suspicious, we just want users to be honest and correct their mistakes. But you decided to tell a lie, therefore, you have been downvoted and received a label in our community.

From now on it depends purely on yourself which way you will choose.
If you start creating original content then we may remove the label, we are keeping an eye on all our users.

Dear @stef1

Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention. I am going to interact with this user concerning that bad habit of plagiarism. She has to stop it immediately. I also regret having supported her article with Steemcurator04.

I am glad that you have seen our post and are aware about that user. I hope that will help in future to reward the honest users with SC04 :)

Thanks for the investigative work, @stef1. It would have gone unnoticed if not for your investigations.

Thank you @devann, people often scroll quickly through posts and tags because too busy and no time but also we intend to trust people. It is really sad to see that some people use our trust on their words. Glad you found our publication valuable :)
