#club5050 Grow Your Own Mushrooms (Power Up 24 Steem)

in WORLD OF XPILAR3 years ago

I started this mushroom project in the middle of January. Auntie Anne got me this fantastic grow your own white mushroom Agaricus Bisporus kit for Christmas.

She got a mushroom box herself a few years ago and she was quite happy to harvest a lot. I was quite nervous about the whole thing as I am a bit of a perfectionist and I had no previous experience in growing mushrooms.

Hoping for the best I started taking photos of the project pretty much daily with the intention of sharing some of them here, exclusively of course.

The box I got had everything included and it was quite easy to get it all started. You just need to open it and empty the bag of topsoil on top of the compost with many skinny white threads of mycelium.

Remember to write down the date when you did this and leave the box aside for eight days with the lid on. It should be placed somewhere not too hot or cold and the room temperature shouldn’t go under fourteen degrees Celsius.

Make sure you set yourself a reminder. I did even two on Alexa as time flies by quickly and you certainly don’t want to let it all go to waste by not starting to spray them with pure water.

Once they begin to grow it all happens really fast. You just need to keep spraying them with water twice a day.

I advise you to plan many meals with mushrooms as you will be harvesting more than ten a day. The size is up to you as you can always decide to leave them to grow bigger, but don’t let them over mature. The freshly picked mushrooms you should store in a paper bag in the fridge.

If you play the video you will see me picking a homegrown mushroom.

Based on my own experience the smaller the mushrooms are the more intense the flavour actually is. They are so much heavier than the mushrooms available at your local supermarket. They are also as you can see pure white and so tasty even finely chopped and eaten raw when sprinkled on pasta or a salad for example.

I had my mushrooms with scrambled eggs on English muffins one day. Others of my homegrown mushrooms found their way in a vegetarian wrap and some, flavoured with fresh sage from my garden, became a side dish to a steak.

Do you like mushrooms yourself? I know that some Steemians here @qwerrie and @bambuka for instance are really keen on mushrooms and know a lot about them including even how to forage for them. But I was wondering if anybody else has tried growing their own?

I also powered up 24 Steem and below is the screenshot of this transaction.

Greetings @o1eh I would like to thank you and the entire Lifestyle curator team for supporting my article. I am really glad that you enjoyed reading it. I will do my very best and I promise to keep you guys busy going through more and more of my #steemexclusive content. I already started drafting my next post which I can’t wait to go live with tomorrow.

I do follow @steemitblog as I love being on top of things and making the most of my time here on the platform. Cheers and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

I promise to keep you guys busy

I assure you, in fact there are not many posts worth supporting, so your content is very welcome. If you go beyond the WOX community, you can see that there are maybe a dozen more communities where quality is welcomed, and the rest is complete darkness.

Oh dear, I didn't even have a clue. Thanks for sharing with us what really is out there as it is actually lovely to know where we are standing as authors and as a community. Members should aim at quality rather than quantity and enjoy discussing their posts. Steemit is certainly not just another stock website where you post some of your content and be surprised to earn $0.10 two years later.

Unfortunately, this is true. Here is an example of a "wonderful" post:

Good morning @o1eh This is really bad and it is the first time I actually see such I won't even call them posts to be honest. The second one upvoted himself. I guess this is what he was testing and it unfortunately worked. Then at least both posts got many downvotes including yourself and @the-gorilla but why to begin with keep us busy with such behaviour, laziness really on the platform. I hope that slowly but surely such Steemians will learn that we do not tolerate this kind of activity here and to achieve something on Steemit one needs to work hard together with the rest of the members and contribute regularly. I am sending you positive vibes from rainy London.

I am sending you positive vibes from rainy London.

Thank you, positive emotions, this is what we are so lacking in Ukraine now.

In fact, the second user makes hundreds of such posts: test #. This is his way of earning. The bid bot votes for each of his posts, so it's easy money.

I joined the Downvote Trail, which is used to combat such scams. So here is my vote against. But our struggle is unsuccessful. We cannot take away all their earnings.

How wonderful. Putting mushrooms on my food for many, many days isn't a problem for me. We love mushrooms at home, raw for salads and carpaccio (with basil pesto mayonnaise); for pasta, risotto and pizza. We used to get them fresh in the supermarket, until about 5 years ago. Now we hardly ever see them and when we do, they are very expensive. It is cheaper to buy them canned or in jars. Three days ago I went to a supermarket in my neighborhood and I saw them fresh at 14$ per kilo. I bought a jar and the equivalent price was 12$ per kilo. Of course we would prefer them natural, harvested directly from that wonderful little box.

Loved visiting this post, @petface. Wish we could see some recipe of yours where you use the mushrooms from your harvest. Cheers :)

Hi there @marlyncabrera I have never tried a mushroom carpaccio and I love the sound of it. Oh dear, the world is going crazy lately, fresh mushrooms should be accessible to everybody. I guess it is hard to grow them where you are based and the fresh ones in the supermarket are maybe all imported which makes the price go up. Over here in London in an average supermarket part of a chain you can buy a family pack, six hundred and fifty grams of fresh white mushrooms for £1.40. This is a bit more than what they charge for two pints of milk and nearly as much as what a dozen of large eggs is priced at. I haven’t bought a jar of mushrooms for ages so I am not quite sure how much one is right now to be honest. But I am curious to find out whether it will also be cheaper compared to the fresh vegetables.

I am really pleased that you like my article. What a brilliant idea to actually post a recipe which I used some of my homegrown mushrooms for. I visited a fantastic flower show today and my tomorrow’s post will be all about it. But keep an eye out, I will make sure I post a recipe for a delicious meal including mushrooms next week.

This is a very interesting topic. But I have never seen such boxes on sale.

I would like to try to grow mushrooms in a similar box.

In summer, mushrooms grow near my house. But it's not until mid-June that you can see.

This is a joke. I planted them in my garden for a photo shoot. 😂

Lucky you are @apnigrich I was to say if king oyster mushrooms grow in your garden 😉 I love a comment which includes a photo by the way so thank you for sharing it with me. You planted them very well under a shrub. I noticed that you even removed the grass around them. I see from your image that it just rained or maybe you sprinkled some water over to make it even more realistic? It is fun being a photographer, especially a non-professional and creating opportunities based on what surrounds us. Cheers and have a great Sunday. I will make some coffee and carry on reading comments and articles here on Steemit.

It was a real night rain. The wife brought the mushrooms early in the morning from her parents. I went to the train and met her. Oyster mushrooms are a good topic. I have such thoughts in the direction of their cultivation. But this issue requires careful study.

I only have rabbits growing. 😂

Oh my, you have done it again. Once with Pho, and now these mushrooms. Mouth watering... Must grow own!

Oops! I did it again @ronthroop They actually go quite well together. So once you have grown your own treat yourself to Pho and add some finely sliced mushrooms in. It will not be a traditional Pho soup but it doesn't really matter. I would also like to try growing oyster mushrooms, ideally pink or yellow. If I get this project going in late March maybe I will also share how I get on here.

Oyster mushrooms. My favorite! A rare find in our supermarket. Easy to spy on deadfall in the woods. But my brain won’t let me pick them. Irrational thoughts of death by mistaken identity:)

Hey 🙋🏻‍♀️ Congratulations! Your mushrooms look amazing 😍 I've watched a lot of time-lapse videos of mushrooms growing, and I think they're pretty fun to watch. The fruitfulness of the mushrooms increases their attractiveness 👌
I agree that small mushrooms taste better, but when you put cheddar cheese in large mushrooms and bake them in the oven, they taste great 😋 Your video is good for us to understand the size of the mushrooms. Btw, I love cream of mushroom soup 🙃
