Dear Italy.. Greetings from Sri Lanka!

Since we are at the end of this contest, with this post I’m going to finish my history lesson about Sri Lanka 😜

Well, my motive in my previous post to this post was to introduce how my country has shaped since its history has been written. Most Sri Lankans think that we would have been in a better position if some incidents never occurred. It is a different matter though.

So what’s BAD about it..

Today we are a Lower-middle-income country (Some says: Third world country), when you have a that sort of identity at present, it doesn’t matter how glamorous our history is.

After been fell into the grip of Western colonialism for nearly 443 years, we lost most of the game. We were never the country it was before. By the policies and the concept they have introduced, have had a long-term impact on the colonized society of Sri Lanka. When the British left us in 1948 February 04th policymakers could have changed the faith of the country. But they were failed to do it.

Then the UGLY happens…

We fell into 30 years of civil war, more than 100,000 lives of Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim were lost. The whole country was yearning for peace.

To put salt on the wound, one morning, 26th December 2004 there was news saying sea level is rising unusually. They didn’t know what’s coming.. they even didn’t know what to call it. It was the first time we Sri Lankan heard that name “Tsunami” within minutes tens of thousands of people disappeared into the massive waves around the island. While many more become homeless.

On May 18th 2009, we had our hopes high. It was the end of the war. Now we have one country under one flag. We celebrated.. we celebrated because we have one more chance to uplift this country. The whole nation was willing to sacrifice anything to get our country right back where it belongs.
But… curse of corruption! Once again, our politicians ruined that chance, now we are under a Chinese debt trap. Global powerhouses like the USA, China & neighboring India is very concern in the matters of governance, Sri Lanka’s future is in deep trouble.
