Galle Dutch Fort is a amazing place with a great historical value. It's a massive fort covers around 90 hectares of land and all the buildings belongs to Dutch architecture. This fort was built by Portuguese in 16 th century to protect from attacks of English ships and attacks from Sri Lankan King. After that Dutch were able capture the power of the fort and they did most of the development. This fort was very important as it gave the protection to the galle harbor. At that time all the cinnomon exports were controlled through this location. And according to the history this was one of the busy places in the world at that time. All the trades with the richest economies were done through this point including China, Greeze and Arabia

Actually this is a living heritage. You can see all the stone walls , houses , walking paths , Dutch colonial villas , prisons , government buildings as they were at that time. Nothing has changed.

And in the year of 1796 , British were able to capture this fort . It was used as their southern headquarters and an administration point for local governance. It was the time of Queen Victoria. Every thing belongs to history now. There were lot of massive battles at this location and many Portuguese , Dutch , English and Sinhalese soldiers fought to there last breath for this fort. All the history is well protected in six museums in Galle. They are National Museum Of Galle , Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Art Museum, Dutch Museum, The Maritime Archeology Museum , National Maritime Museum and Underwater Museum for divers. You must visit them and you will collect every historical data you need to know about Galle.
So guys .. hope you collected something to your knowledge. Let's meet again tomorrow.
Have a nice day !
