History of Taj Palace

The construction of Taj Mahal Palace was first started in the year 1898, and the hotel is opened for guests on December 16, 1902, This is the first large building in Mumbai before the construction of Gateway of India which is also situated around the palace. The gateway of India was only started on 31 March of 1911.

Owner of Taj Palace

Jamshedji Tata was the owner of the Taj Palace 5 star hotel who is the founder of Tata groups.
In those days, it was believed by some peoples that Jamshedji Tata was eager to build the palace as he was refused to enter at Watson’s Hotel,in which white people only allowed to enter. However, this incident trueness has not been accepted by various commentators who tells that Jamshedji Tata had built this great palace hotel to give people a royal experience and 'improve tourism in Bombay.’

The total construction of Taj Palace cost around ₹ 4 crores (2129074 Steem). This building was constructed in Indo-Saracenic style with Moorish dome.
During the construction of Taj palace they used German Steam elevators, American fans, Turkish baths fittings and English butlers which is to give the visitors of the palace an experience like nowhere in the country.
when Jamshedji Tata visited Paris, he saw pillars made of iron spun then he ordered and shipped 10 pillars for the construction of Taj Palace hotel. Today also you can see the long standing pillars.

On November 26, 2008 this famous 5 star hotel is attacked by terrorist which causes the life of 167 peoples. After various damage the palace is restored, renovated and reopened on independence day of 2010. After the reopen the first international person U.S. President Barack Obama visited the hotel on Nov 6, 2010.
